I know this is /trv/ but I want to talk about the opposite: not traveling. Anyone else here who has traveled extensively in the past but now is just fed up with it and just wants to stay home?
This is different for everyone of course, if can also be complicated and not be so much just about the act of traveling itself but also worldviews of oneself and whether things and destinations are actually still worth the effort.
I don't want to be like "oh I've seen it all" because the world is so vast that even with quite some mileage under the belt I've probably seen less than a tenth of a percent of this planet. But I feel that it's simply not really worth it anymore. Things and people have become, for a lack of better words, less comfy. Especially since 2020 things just don't feel the same anymore. The spontaneousness is gone. There's this blandness.... it's hard to explain. Long story short I just think the world has become a less fun place.
Staying at home has become the more attractive option to me. I live in a safe country, not going anywhere is cheap, and it's just nice, easy, and quiet this way.
What are your experiences, anon? Are you travel fatigued? Do you find yourself to be more staying at home than previously? What has caused it for you?

I think you get this feeling after doing a long duration of travel at one time. Work 9-5 for another 12 months then your travel itch will be back.

Even when I have my times of no travel I usually travel around my own country camping and staying in different cities with close friends. It woulds be weird if you didn't get travel fatigued, only the super rich wouldn't.

If you could book a fancy hotel for 1 month in nice cities across the globe you wouldn't get sick of it.

yea i agree with this anon. 12 months of working with nothing to look forward, not a chance in hell of getting your pecker played with, and it will renew your enthusiasm for travel. im getting older and fear for my future so im probably gonna have to resign to being a two week faggot. i also tapped out early last trip because i overestimated the novelty remaining relative to my desperation to go.

I feel sullen to resign myself to being a two week faggot, but i think its the best option for me at this juncture of life

I've been not-traveling since January 2023. The problem is that I still want to travel. I just don't know where I want to go. More specifically, there are many places I want to go, but I'm having a hell of a lot of trouble narrowing it down.

On the bright side, I have a lot more money in my bank account than I usually do.

I've been to about 70 countries and spent most of my 20s abroad. I can't speak for anyone else, but the novelty sure wore off for me. I still like to go new places and am excited for the small handful of trips my wife and I have planned for the coming year, but I no longer have much desire to be constantly on the move.

I don't think the world has become more "bland" or less "comfy," but I did reach a point where every new place I went reminded me of somewhere I'd already been. At the same time, I also know I'll be able to appreciate travel now that it's been a couple years since I've been anywhere new.

The effort of travel is what makes it "worth it" to experience a snippet of life in many different places. Choose the easiest way for everything and you're bound to feel unfulfilled as your wallet gets drained faster than you like.

Personally, I'd go nuts sitting idle in my small town apartment all winter, with no car and no work, no desire to waste money on stupid toys or hobbies either. If I'm not working, I have to be on the move. Mobility is one of the four fundamental life needs in my view. Buddhist monks travel so much the train cars here have a special section reserved for them. The contemplative life is not sedentary by default.

>Every meal a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade. I love the Corps!
