How to emigrate as an American? I have a BS in Computer Science but never became a developer, hated programming and never had any side projects, worked in healthcare during college and now working at a multinational chemical supplier for the semiconductor industry working in a cleanroom. My company is based overseas in France, I could look into seeing if my work will sponsor a transfer to somewhere based in Europe.

On the other hand, I was looking into Argentina as the path to citizenship was only 2-3 years and my Spanish is not perfect but good. 33 yo white male, I have $100,000 in savings and just got out of a relationship, unfortunately lost a good amount of friends in the breakup and feel there's not much left for me where I'm at. What's a good option for someone like me?

you already know the answer and you essentially answered it already
>look into seeing if my work will sponsor a transfer to somewhere based in europe
only remote dorkers are truly location independent (they can go fuck themselves).
>100k in the bank
thats cool but entry level "not poor"

You can live comfortably with $1000-$2000 a month in Argie land.
Above $1500 puts you comfortably in the upper middle class.

$100 grand won't buy you much property though, a nice apartment if you are planning to live in a big city, maaaaybe a small house with a pool but it's a bit of stretch. In a smaller city you have cheaper properties.

For an apartment, be mindful of the cost of "expensas", which is what the apartment administrators charge you monthly in account of repairs, maintainance of ammenities like the pool, gym, etc. Some apartments can look like a bargain but the "expensas" are ludicrous. Other apartments may be more expensive but if the "expensas" are cheap and the ammenities good then maybe it's a good deal. There's some element of randomness to how these work, some buildings are very well run, others are administered by very scummy managers that are difficult for the owners to fire.

If you were aiming for Buenos Aires, don't do the thing every expat does and avoid the trendy neighbourhoods like Recoleta, Palermo, etc... the property and rental prices in those neighbourhoods are insane and not justified IMHO. Neighbourhoods like Martinez, Belgrano, Nuñez, Colegiales are just as nice and safe but less gentrified/expensive.

Patagonia is another nice place to live but be mindful of how big the place is... if you are moving to a small town, you may need to travel if you happen to need some complex surgery. Larger cities like Bariloche, Rio Grande, Ushuaia are safer bet in that respect compared to El Calafate, San Martín de los Andes, and the like which are very nice tourist hotspots but more barebones. And there's still plenty of nature close by in any Patagonian city.

Remote work is a must, you don't want our shitty wages.
Spanish is not a must, most people speak some English, many speak it well, but still it's advisable if you want to have an easier time meeting people, doing paperwork and so on.

I'm in BA right now. I like the city enough, but they've got real infrastructure issues here. I'm in downtown Recoleta in a "luxury" apartment building. My first week here, the water heater for the entire apartment building broke. I wrote my host asking him wtf was going on and I was told it would take a MONTH OR TWO to fix it because apparently there are apparently ZERO repairmen in the entire fucking city. Absolutely retarded. A friend of mine confirmed that the exact same thing happened to her when she came to BA. I gave it two weeks and the hot water didn't come back on, so I'm getting a refund and moving to another building this week.
wtf Argies, get your shit together. I would expect this in some SEA backwater shithole, not the second largest city in South America

>I wrote my host asking him wtf was going on and I was told it would take a MONTH OR TWO to fix it because apparently there are apparently ZERO repairmen in the entire fucking city.
Kek there are plenty of repairmen, that's a bullshit excuse they gave you. I bet the issue is with the apartment administrators being lazy/scummy, refer to my post >>2731537

It's a very random and vexing feature of apartments here. Basically if you land a job as a building administrator, you are set... it's a job-for-life. The law protects them way too much, they are difficult to fire, they get a free apartment in the building, they have very nice wages, ridiculous. And some of them are utter scumbags. More recent buildings have companies that do the administrative/mainteinance stuff and those tend to be honest and do things better, but older buildings have these dudes that have been running the maintenance in the building for like decades and they are very difficult to get rid of.
>>
>>2731543
What good is it to some scummy building admin to wait two months to fix something? It's going to cost the same anyway, so he may as well handle it quickly before tenants start complaining and/or moving out. I've heard from multiple people that there aren't any good repairmen in BA. It blows my mind that it's difficult to find a repairman in a megacity like this. This would have been handled in a few days max in a shithole like Medellín or Lima.
>>
>>2731547
>What good is it to some scummy building admin to wait two months to fix something?
Probably the administrator gets a "commission" by subcontracting his repairman friend as opposed to a better option. The administrator doesn't give a fuck, the apartment owners have to pay the expenses rain or sunshine, and replacing him is a huge hassle. Like I said it's a big problem, they even made an (exaggerated comedy) TV show about this, El Encargado.

Outside of money, is there really a good reason to move to the USA? In Canada where I am, the country is already a disgusting third world shithole, so the USA is an upgrade. I don't know why you would move to the USA from Europe. Yes wages are better, but you are also moving to a low trust 0 culture shithole where everyone carries guns because they are aware that their country is a low trust warzone. Asia has a much better future than the West does in general.
>>
>>2731560
>Asia
You mean like Yemen, Iraq, or Bangladesh?
Asia is a big place, and so is North America. Try not to make brainless /pol/tard generalizations
>>
>>2731561
Why not? Don't play stupid, all you can do is accuse everyone that isn't some western supremacist a /pol/tard lmfao. I would not want to be in the USA when I'm 65, that's all I'm saying. It's a place to make money and leave to somewhere better.
>>
>>2731562
>I would not want to be in the USA when I'm 65, that's all I'm saying
that's your choice, buddy. I'm from North America and I'm currently in South America because of the lower cost of living. There are tons of no-nigger zones in Canada and the US. It's not my fault you got priced-out and had to live in jeetville/chinktown. I've lived in "Asia" before. The bug hive thing isn't for me, but maybe you'd like it. If you are talking about East Asia, you'd better go quick. There will be a war in the Pacific within 5-10 years
>>
>>2731565
Hahaha. I'm white and if I had to pick an area to live in it WOULD be chinktown. No way am I moving to some all white hillbilly town where it's nothing but boomers drinking and doing drugs. Every single white neighbour I've had has been problematic. I'll take the bug hives anyday.

To the contrary, anon, that kind of broken-down incompetence is exactly what I'd expect from Latin America, not from Asia.
Here in Thailand each apartment and hotel room, even those renting for under $10/night, have their own 240V on-demand water heater. none of those antiquated tank heaters that are always getting turned off by "accident", breaking down, or simply running out of hot water at 8 AM when everyone is taking a shower. Or the worthless 120V electric showerheads that can only warm up a trickle of water.
>>2731547
Lower gas bill means more money in somebody's pocket, I bet.
>>
>>2731591
>"let me tell you about your country"
Everyone in China will be older and more prosperous than in India. You must have a phobia of old people or something, because this will clearly make China superior to the stupid, jobless hordes of India or Africa.

This channel has a ton of videos on what the expat experience is like OP, if you are interested.

And this Canadian couple probably has the best foodie channel about Argentina in English, all their bar/restaurant/pizzeria recommendations are great, I highly recommend.

I think that anon is talking about a building with central heating, an entirely different thing from what you are talking about. It's true that a central heating system can be tricky to repair because you need specialized parts from the manufacturer, and some manufacturers don't even exist anymore if the building is on the older side. But then again we have this at my home, central heating with a modern French boiler, and it never took us more than 24 hours to repair it hence why I think that maybe the administration in that building is just bad.

>Or the worthless 120V electric showerheads that can only warm up a trickle of water.
Those aren't a thing here. I've only seen them in Iguazú near the Brazil border. They are useless in colder regions. Most of Argentina has winters with near 0° C temperatures or subzero in the south, an electrical shower just doesn't cut it.
>>
>>2731540
They have brownouts like every summer down there. Enjoy BA
>>
>>2731657
Those were a problem around 2013-2014, because the government was basically subsidizing the electricity to be very cheap (which meant no investment). They've gradually raised the electric bill closer to international prices since then and it stopped happening. Pretty rare these days, last one I recall was in 2019.

why would you want to live ANYWHERE in fucking south america. Maybe Uruguay.

Also fuck europe. Their heads are up each others' asses 24/7 to hide from their problems.
>>

South America is great for neetmaxxxing. My personal favorite is Colombia. Get an amazing apartment and have Rappi delivered every day. you can live very well and spend no more than 1k USD a month. Zero reason to leave the apartment, but if you really need to, a 20 min Uber ride will cost you two dollars. Just work, play vidya, and watch kino.
>inb4 SE Asia
It's still cheap, but you'll be paying more for less. It's safer, but that shouldn't matter much for a shut-in
I love Europe too, the architecture is beautiful, but Western Europe is overpriced and the people are arrogant and entitled. Europeans are in for a serious reality check, which is finally starting to hit them now.

Fuck off we're full.
Sick and tired of all these DN dorkers thinking other countries are their olaygrounds.
You want to move here you're going to assimilate.
You will learn the language, you will marry a local, you will get a job here (none of that expat bullshit), you will eat the empanada and you will vote Peronist.
Otherwise you are not welcome.

Lol, same shit happened in my building too. There's no hot water for 3 weeks already. The owner installed the electric shower for me though, so it's bearable. These water tanks are absolute shit, now I know that when looking for an apartment here I need one with an installed boiler or an electric shower.
>>

So 55% of people who voted for Milei are not assimilated enough? Fuck off to your Villa 21-24 or whatever shithole you live in.
