As an American I'm used to hysterically overprotective parents who wouldn't dare let their children step foot outside without an adult, so I was shocked to go to other countries and see kids just walking around town, on the bus, at the store, all by themselves. And I'm not talking about high schoolers, I mean actual children.I remember one time on the bus in Eastern Europe this girl turned around and started proudly displaying her new lunchbox to me, I couldn't understand a word she was saying so I just smiled and nodded. Another time in Japan a girl came up to me at the arcade, couldntve been older than 8 or 9, and challenged me to a game, I totally got my ass handed to me.
in my experience (especially in asia) most of them just want to practice their english with you
