Super friendly good-hearted people, who have true reverence for their history, culture & traditions, infinite amount of diverse places to explore and infinite amounts of foods to try - not an exaggeration. You can really try something new every single day. I really want to travel China for a few years in the future, unfortunately I'm a poor and unqualified eastern european stuck in wageslavery and don't know how to begin. I also want to find a traditional Chinese wife who will teach me their language and culture, but I am anxious that a woman would select me solely because I'm tall and white - I have a strong feeling that such woman betrays her people - is there any way to test a woman in this? I want to assimilate with the Han Chinese, Mongolians, Manchurians, etc. I think my Belarusian genes with the asian cheek bone and thick hair genes will result in superior form of man that has been lost since ancient times. Some mythical Chinese Terminator. I want my Chinese wife to give birth to a dozen boys and send them into martial arts training from an early age so that they can train to become great fighters and stuntmen. I don't know guys but I genuinely daydream about Chinese culture and feel strongly that I should have been born there. I believe the universe has played a crazy joke on me by making me not Chinese. I live in a city with a significant Chinese student population and whenever I hear them speak Mandarin I always envy them. Such a cool language. I was rewatching some scenes from Hero on YouTube a few days ago and hearing Jet Li speak Mandarin almost made me punch my computer screen out of my inability to also speak such an ultimate elegant & polite sounding language https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZANYMihNZM. I got into Tao Te Ching and it has helped me too. Feel free to disagree. But I'm looking for people who have traveled there and can tell me about some peculiar locations or must visit sites that one hardly hears about.

How and when did China go from a place everyone went to, to a place everyone is afraid to travel to?

I lived in China for a bit, and backpacked around asia extensively through 2010-2014 and half the people I met travelling had been to or lived in China. Now it seems no one goes there anymore and think its some kind of North Korea (which is also 100% safe to go to btw).
>>
>>2732349
>North Korea (which is also 100% safe to go to btw)
I am aware of the massive amount of fearmongering propaganda that the western world utilizes against this country. I'm personally not interested in the Koreas but would possibly consider to travel there in distant future. I don't know if it's true or not however that you can't have long hair in NK.
>>
>>2732349
because China used to be fun but now there's way too many restrictions to get anything done

Hu Jintao was in charge when I lived there and it seems its gone to shit even as average incomes have almost doubled

what are you talking about? it's called kazhakstan. the finest example of that type is a guy named borat.
>>
OP if it makes you feel better Chinese is actually quite easy to learn. I've only been learning for 1 year and I can have pretty decent conversations with people, if they're willing to speak slowly.

>>2732329
The problem for me is I can't travel in China the same way I travel everywhere else. I want to be able to go camping on a whim, hitchhike, to wander into the abandoned corners of towns, take a train to the most remote places without having to justify myself or be scrutinized by authorities.
>>
>>2732341
Why would you need to book a train ticket? Show up at the train station, present your ID and buy a ticket for the train you want to take. Easy peasy.
>>2732349
What my limited experience suggests is that westerners visiting Asia have been losing their desire for adventure. All you hear about is "I want to move long-term to X country", or "Where can I find a monthly apartment in X city?" or "How can I make a remote income so I can travel?"

A decade ago, Southeast Asia was full of energetic young backpackers with a thousand bucks in their money belt hopping on trains or buses to places they've never heard of. Hostels were lively places full of raucous travelers, all getting drunk and relating the various ordeals they've been through. Not anymore. One is hard-pressed to spot a single white backpacker anywhere along the overland corridor between Bangkok and Phnom Penh.

These sheltered zoomers would rather fly to a tourist destination recommended online and get a rideshare to their pre-booked room...then spend hours crafting social media and vlog posts in order to make them look like bold and daring travelers for, uhh, walking through a night market sticking a camera in everyone's face and exclaiming about how EXOTIC and CRAZY it is for some people to be preparing food and others to be buying it.

stfu wumao trash

I've been to your SHITHOLE in 2023 and it was incredibly unfriendly to solo white travelers, especially americans
I had to talk to the police on 3 different occasions in a single month of going around T1 cities, because random chink faggots would call the cops on me just for being physically present (I am clean cut and dress business casual for everything in asia)
the faggot cops didn't apologize for wasting my time, but WARNED ME that I was DISTURBING THE PEACE by just being PHYSICALLY PRESENT in the same vicinity as brainrotted ricel commie faggots who couldn't bear to see a 6 foot tall white man with blue eyes hanging around, that was suspicious to them you see

do you know how fucking SHITTY it is to realize that no matter where you go in a supposedly advanced and interesting country like china, that the fucking CCP agents are monitoring you and local police are being called on you because the chinkbot insect hive is to fucked in the head they call for backup if a single white dude enters their field of vision?

waste of fucking time, awful and rude people in general, spitting and coughing all the time everywhere, no table manners, no manners to speak of, literally shoving if they are in a line (almost decked some chubby chink retard who kept elbowing me in the back when a queue wasn't moving, just insanely retarded and banal evil behavior)

everything travel related is a fucking chore, way WAY more difficult and esoteric than it needs to be, its difficult ON PURPOSE because chinks dont want foreign travelers going around in their shithole and seeing all the shithole parts of it they keep carefully hidden both from their public and everyone else

china has absolutely nasty worker slums/dorms all over the place, but if you happen to 'wander' too close to one (they are hidden from roads by big metal sheet walls), security/police will mysteriously appear out of thin air and ask what you are doing, police state shithole
>>
>>2732349
>How and when did China go from a place everyone went to, to a place everyone is afraid to travel to?

well china grew up and their surveillance and paranoia level went through the roof as they became a superpower in competition with USA, they are also butthurt that USA/europe/other places keep expelling their agents and shutting down their espionage.

I was directly harassed by police 3 times, had suspicious encounters with chinks asking me suspicious questions a few times, and encountered very surly security literally running towards me to stop me from walking somewhere several times also (I wasn't doing shit, was just in the vicinity of something they didn't want me to go near or probably photograph)

It was so fucking annoying I went from being interested in seeing the sights to considering how I might actually perform some seditious activities like flying a drone around and photographing what they DESEPERATELY wanted me to not see. Do you understand what I'm getting at? I went from
>legitimate tourist
to
>legitimately wanting to harm their retarded system
just from being harassed in the single month I was there
To really put things into perspective, I denied a willing and somewhat attractive chinese woman the sex she desired, because at that point in my trip the thought of even touching a chinese was disgusting to me. Truly vile.

China can go fuck itself.
You can only have peace while visiting if you go with a tour group, which is the ONLY type of tourism they want and support.

The ONE caveat to all of this is that I can say it is POSSIBLE or even PROBABLE that China was aware of my prior service in the US military (which ended 12 years ago) due to all the data leaks/spying over the years, and that flagged me for extra scrutiny. If you aren't or were never a zogbot you might have a much different experience.
>>
Oh yeah and the scammers how could I leave that out.
Lots of people tried to randomly talk to me in big cities, and most of them were attempting to initiate a scam process, of which I am very versed in and hyper aware of thanks to living in asia for almost 10 years. I never got scammed but the number of 'tries' was disgusting and alarming.

After having visited my only opinion is that I'm glad the 'great firewall' exists so we only have to deal with the occasional wumao, and not 1 billion+ of these absolute retards shitting up our side of the internet. Thank you CHINA for keeping your pet retard insects digitally contained. However FUCK YOU CHINA for sending your wumao shits out to try and shill your shithole. I know the truth.

P.S. Mouth and intestine burning spicy is NOT a flavor and NOT nutrition. Everyone in your fucking country has the shits constantly because their small intestine is inflamed from consuming ultra spicy chili laden oil in every fucking meal. You are RETARDED, fix your fucking FOOD, you idiots.
>>
>>2732349
That was a different time
>>
>>2732349
>How and when did China go from a place everyone went to, to a place everyone is afraid to travel to?
The CCP went from attempting to please western tourists to fucking despising them.
>>
I'm hesitant to travel to China, mainly because it doesn't appear to be an ideal budget destination. The median Chinese income is $1100 a month, which is higher than I like to spend in a month of wandering around. Rarely in my Asian travels have I had a positive interaction with a Chinese person; they are highly status-aware and seem derisive toward a white foreigner who is debasing himself by wearing old clothes, trudging the streets and eating chinkslop. Couple that with my refusal to speak their language, and I feel lucky to get served anything at all sometimes.
>>2732422
>they will sell out!!!
Sounds like the anxiety speaking. China has bucoo trains, in fact news stories were talking about how underutilized much of its high-speed railway network is. Get your ticket when you show up at the station like every other Chinese intercity commuter does. If you have to stand for a while until a seat is open, big fuckin deal.
>>2732446
Come on dude, I eat spicy chili almost every meal here in Thailand and shit a nice batch of solid turds like clockwork every morning.
>attempting to initiate a scam process
IDK about that, most people who try to chat with me in Asia - even in the Philippines - are simply curious about the life I live, in particular, how I afford to wander around Asia for so much of the year.
>>2732473
China as recently as the 1970s was absolutely closed to all tourism. The country has always been hyper-protective of its interior.
>>
>>2732489
>Get your ticket when you show up at the station like every other Chinese intercity commuter does
They don't though, they book it on their phone on the way to the station. But in any case you absolutely can book online with a foreign passport that anon just got IQ gatekept

>>
>>2732526
You have to really go out of your way to get yourself in trouble in China. The idea that you'll face constant harassment in say Shanghai is laughable, especially as someone who's extensively solo travelled actually sensitive parts of the country (eg NK border) with zero trouble
>>
>>2732527
I was hoping to go to NK in December but since they've postponed the reopening until next spring I thought of doing this in December instead, visiting around Dandong and Yanbian, but I thought it'd come across as suspicious as a solo white guy taking pictures near NK. Didn't you face even any official questions as to what you were doing so close to NK?
>>
>>2732515
You either were there 10 years ago or are a seething wumao.
>>
>>2732515
I went during Chinese new year 2024 to Jiangxi province and there were random people approaching me and my now Chinese ex-girlfriend telling me to go to the police immediately to identify myself in order to avoid trouble just because we were standing in front of their house waiting for a taxi.
Thank god I never have to visit that shithole again
>>
>>2732516
I used RedDoorz a lot. Create an account and you can get some pretty steep discounts over the walk-in rate. Of course, they are for the cell-like single rooms, but most still have their own bathroom. Still ended up spending 50% more on lodging in PH than I am currently spending in Thailand.
>>2732583
Is loitering actually illegal in the PRC?
>>2732515
Of course favored white monkeys working hard and spending their money are treated well. We are talking about brokefag /trv/ers autistically wandering around, how would they be treated in China. If Zoggerino above actually did bring a surveillance drone into China and began flying it around Chinese cities, it's no wonder the locals and police gave him no end of trouble.
>>
>>2732555
No nobody cares you're there or finds it innately suspicious. Why would traveling be suspicious by itself? Only Americans are spastic about NK in that way. China just wants you away from its military installations in eg Qinghai or Shanxi and they will stop you from getting anywhere near them. Anyway I interacted with zero officials at any point. Now don't be naive of course you have some degree of passive surveillance on you at all times, as is true in the entire country, but no one is going to randomly bother you unless you start trying to fly a drone into NK or something

>>2732560
>>2732583
I lived in Shanghai from 2016-2023.
>ex-girlfriend telling me to go to the police immediately to identify myself in order to avoid trouble
it is the law in China as you probably know that foreigners have to register their address with the police if staying outside of a hotel. in typical Amerimutt fashion you interpreted what was likely a gentle reminder of this from your gf into THREAT THREAT THREAT

>>2732597
>We are talking about brokefag /trv/ers autistically wandering around, how would they be treated in China.

You don't have to guess, they are treated well, there's literally recent videos of some broke Anglo guy hitchhiking across Xinjiang (the most sensitive region in the entire country)

lol don't be a disingenous faggot. I watched the whole series that anon posted. They were obviously keeping tabs on him. Even though he was not doing anything controversial.

In any normal country the police don't come to demand you "register" with them when staying on a simple camping/RV resort. They don't take pictures of you just because you are standing around at a gas station. Etc. Etc. There's a section that he couldn't hitch hike through and had to take the taxi the cops mandated.

Not normal.

you can bet they get checked on monthly, if not in person then at least by a handler reviewing all the metadata about where they have been and done based on their surveillance state bullshit (facial recognition cams everywhere)
I can PROMISE you that if one of their faggot white monkey slaves strays off the CCP approved niggercattle ranch, he will be 'checked up on'

Realistically speaking, how many expats at foreign nationals are there compared to dancing monkeys?

> Unbelievable that me and every other expat I know missed our monthly reviews for YEARS. Almost like they don't happen
It never happened to me personally, but I’ve heard of cases where police went to houses to ask for passports or id or whatever, it’s prob not monthly but if you’re a person of interest/ doing politically sensitive shit there’s probably gonna be someone watching you.
> Again, I have actually travelled the entire country and this has not happened. YOU are a faggot
If you go to Tibet/ somewhere close to military installations and are somewhat close to sensitive stuff, someone is prob gonna take notice.
>>
>>2733010
If you are the same poster that I was replying to you are moving the goalposts by miles. In any case, as I said in this post >>2732598 you would have to be naive to think you're NOT surveilled in China, but it is for the most part unobtrusive, and faggots coming in here lying about constant police harassment in cities that have tens of thousands of resident white foreigners (monkeys or not, it really makes no difference, if anything the higher status expats are more likely to get preferential treatment) is annoying and needlessly discourages anons who don't know better from having a kino travel experience.
