Going for 10 days with my bro. Thoughts?

Day 1 arrive in morning - go to atitlan
Day 2 atitlan
day 3 atitlan
day 4 transit to antigua, chill
Day 5 - Acatenango overnight Acatenango
Day 6- Finish hike and descent to antigua, chill
Day 7 - Antigua
Day 8 - go to flores/tikal
Day 9 - tikal
Day 10 - Tikal?
day 11 - go home

Questions:
Is two and a half days too many for tikal? Is the full day in Antigua too much? I feel like this is a good mix of doing a lot but not going crazy. Theoretically I bet I could spend 5 days in atitlan or antigua or spend a day less in either and be fine. Anything you would change?

BTW which town is best to stay at in Titlan? We aren't looking to party. My brother has not been to Latin America much so he'd be most interested in whatever feels the most authentic. I know all the towns will be somewhat touristy but if there's one that stands out.

Are there other ruins in the tikal region we could check out if we feel we don't want two full days there after spending one.

Went there last spring, in Holy Week. If you're going during Catholic Lent just watch out for travel on Fri-Sun since roads will get congested with their processions.

I did basically the same trip as you, and I'd say all of that's worth doing. Stayed in San Juan La Laguna and it didn't feel at all like a party town. There are nice hikes around the lake and it's easy to go from town to town by boat.

There are a couple other ruins near Flores, like Uaxactun and Yaxha. They're all fairly similar but Tikal is the biggest. Thinking about going back to do the 5 day/4 night hike up to Mirador.

Acatenango hike is fun, but the way up to the summit sucks since the dirt is really ashy. If you're doing a double-whammy with Fuego I'd recommend just Fuego.

hard to imagine cartel is cutting people's heads off down there

I kept tripping on those damn cobblestones in Antigua.
Nice place though.

Two days of looking at piles of rocks is plenty.

Nah. Just spend as little time as possible in Guatemala City.

It's not like they are going to snatch you off the street and kill you.
Mind your own business and be aware of your surroundings.

Thanks! Do would you recommend another full day in atitlan instead of having a full Antigua day? I get the impression The transit day to Antigua and the afternoon after Acatenago would be enough for the town itself.

A lot of cartel towns are like this, calles lined with historic buildings yet devoid of the usual Hispanic street life. Everyone either glaring suspiciously at you or refusing to meet your eyes. IME you'll be treated better going with a friend to these insecure regions versus going alone.

Atitlan, Panajachel and Antigua were amazing. Extend time in each of these cities.
