I'm in Tokyo for work right now but I'm only 18. Can I get away with buying alcohol from a store, or do I need to keep hunting for a vending machine. I strolled around for a few hours today and didn't find anything. I'm a minor alcoholic but don't want to risk getting deported for something as stupid as lying about my age at a 7-11. Help would be appreciated
>>2734670>I'm in Tokyo for work right now but I'm only 18.Go FUCK yourself
>>2734675what's the issue?
>>2734681I think he doesn't have a job, or something.Anyway just look for small scale shifty vendors :)
>>2734684so just find a kombini that isn't part of the huge chain corps? and what is the worst that can happen if i just press "i'm 20" at 7-11?
>>2734686>what is the worst that can happen if i just press "i'm 20" at 7-11?the worst that can happen is that you will get deported.
>>2734670Stores and restaurants will be no issue. Hard to get into bars or clubs though
>>2734697yes that's why i am apprehensive
i look like i'm 15 and i always get carded in america and i've never been carded in japan. actually one time i gave them my passport preemptively and they just looked confused then laughed at me. nobody really cares if you're drinking as long as you're not like a middle schooler or elementary school kid.
>>2734670I have zero advice for you, but I'd like to know what job you got that lets you travel internationally so young.
>>2734757ski instructor
>>2734670Stay at a Remm hotel, they have booze in the vending machines but watch out for cctv
>>2734763How can you possibly be experienced enough at ski instruction and also speak Japanese well enough at 18 to get hired?Do you mean you work at a ski resort as seasonal labor? Because that's a thing 18 year olds actually do at the ski resorts in my home town. We had young people from all over the world running lifts and doing various maintenance or working kitchens. Not negging just genuinely curious how you nailed that gig at 18.
>>2734822The level required to take a never-ever skied to basic wedge turns is very low, you can get a certificate to do this in a few weeks. They are hiring a lot of international instructors at Niseko as most people are tourists and therefore want English instruction.
>>2734822>>2734829I'm only here because it means I get to ski the world's best powder on my days off, not for the abysmal pay I will receive
>>2734829Interesting, so they deliberately hire English speakers to instruct tourist skiers. Yeah I can see that. Sounds like a pretty cool job.
>>2734820most hotels have alc vending machines>>2734704this, as long as you dont look like an actual child youre chilling, especially as a foreigner because they cant tell how old you are just like we cant tell how old they are.
>>2734670>>2734670This was back in 2010 so I dont know if things have changed but I was 19 and bought alcohol and cigarettes all the time, no one cares as long as you arent a Japanese boy in his school uniform.
>>2734670I am gonna try this when I go to Japan, shit looks really good.also why is there hiragana for sake above the kanji? surely if one is an adult and can read Japanese they know what the kanji for sake is.
>>2734675Lol someone beat me to it! I’m amused. I have nothing to say. OP you better be balls deel
>>2734930>also why is there hiragana for sake above the kanji? surely if one is an adult and can read Japanese they know what the kanji for sake is.I honestly don't even know how to respond to this post because it's so fucking stupid. You asked a question, then answered it in the following sentence, and you're still confused?
>>2734822the hometown groms who have been skiing since they learned to walk are rippers and it's not that hard to learn decent japanese when you're a teenager and your brain is still fresh.
>>2734838mission accomplished
>>2734831>Interesting, so they deliberately hire English speakers to instruct tourist skiers. They do that at ski resorts all over the world. I met a Danish woman in Switzerland who worked as an itinerant ski instructor all over the place—did stints in New Zealand, Japan, and someplace in South America for part of the year, various parts of Europe in the winter. She spoke English as her working language everywhere. Japan was evidently her favorite place to ski.

>>2734925ID required for bars and clubs yes, but for a foreigner making a routine retail purchase, no.
>>2734965young people often on a gap year or summer program are best suited for this kind of overseas work
>>2734670>I'm in Tokyo for work right now but I'm only 18.Fuck me, I really dropped the ball with my life. "Yeah dude just go waste 5 years in college for a shitty paper, everyone else is doing it"
>>2734670The vending machines for alcohol and cigarettes require you to have a special ID card. And no japs are going to help you because their prisons are awful and a conviction will permanently ruin their lives and their family record for 1000 years
>>2734990fuck yeah, enjoy the season and don't get deported young anonalso, heed this advice, if you're a "mild" alcoholic at 18 you should seriously consider taking a long break from the bottle before it becomes a habit. trust me>t. 30yo functioning alcoholic
>>2735128That can't be right because I just grabbed these from a vending machine on the street near Gaiemmae station>>2734990
>>2735066It's ok anon, it's just life's way of saying you weren't ready to experience Japan at that time. You can still be a 40 year old wine uncle passport bro gaijin.
