The Snake River Plain is very agricultural. Lots of farm smells, farm laborers in the summer. You'd think you were in the Midwest. Pocatello is known as a shithole. Idaho Falls is where those of us living in Grand Teton National Park used to go for our shopping. It's got the big stores. Rather soulless place, nothing going on downtown particularly on a Sunday. Maybe it has gentrified since 2016, who knows. Nature is where everyone spends their free time in Idaho. There are tons of smaller mountain ranges where you can seclude yourself, go camping, do some target practice, etc.

Just move to Utah, better scenery and same Mormons

my job offer was for work in idaho falls

idk if this is the right thread but ill ask anyway. I potentially have an opportunity to work in Albuquerque, NM for a year and I wanna know if. it would be worth it.

>never been to USA before
>I love the outdoors
>I would hopefully have a car and just travel around every weekend

Asking the Americans on this website, would I enjoy this or is it a bad decision?

You're at the tail end of the rockies being stupidly high up, there is enough to do do there but you're stuck with that sliver of Alb/Santa Fe/Roswell stuff. Kinda a run down place but it's fine. If it's your first USA job it will be a good starting point.

Idaho Falls is comfy. I lived in Rigby. You have the Tetons and Yellowstone very close. Grand Targhee is a nice sized ski resort that isn't too pricey for a season pass. Culvers in town.

You’re a bit late to the party man. Idaho will be turning into another California and Texas soon

Eastern Idaho isn't like Boise and Jackson Wy. Mormons really do keep out Libs and Texans alike

Doesn’t change the fact that population is booming statewide and it’ll be unaffordable soon enough

Do the girls let you play with their butthole because that doesn’t violate virginity laws or whatever
>>
It is unfortunately a rather empty place. If you're used to any remotely considered a "big city", all of Idaho will just feel empty and insignificant.

Pros: Culvers

>>2740138
You're retarded if you don't understand that "no income tax states" don't simply pass along the tax burden among different channels. Look up "total tax burden by state" to see how heckin' based WA compares. Not that you pay much income tax on your minimum wage salary to begin with.

I live in Idaho Falls now. It's honestly great, except for the influx of people who also figured out that it's great. Say what you will but the Mormons made it great, and most of the undesirable things about the area are from nonmormons who cannot stop doing meth. I love Pocatello, Idaho Falls (unfortunately called Pokey and IF), and Rexburg.

There's a culture here of not being a total asshat to people, which a lot of areas have lost.

Pros:
nice people
nice scenery
food isn't bad
airport in IF to take you wherever if you need to travel
decent gaming scene if that's your thing
green belt (a mile of track around manmade falls and the mormon temple) are absolutely gorgeous and the easiest date ever that every girl is down for usually
farmers markets are comfy
rexburg close by which always has a new kitschy restaurant or something to do
very close to tons of outdoor crap like hiking, yellowstone, hot springs, skiing, that kind of thing
very easy dating scene in IF/Rexburg if you're religious

cons:
everyone has figured out that it's a great area
ridiculous rent prices relative to wages (seriously in the last 10 years it's gone off the chain in IF in particular)
bizarre antimormon counterculture--even if you aren't mormon there's a loud group of people that, for example, comment on every news article OH PROBABLY GOT A LIGHTER SENTENCE CAUSE HE'S JOE SMITH'S COUSIN, and it makes you not want to associate with them in any way
sometimes the winters are brutal, though the one this year is ezpz
the driving of people in trucks is absolutely exactly what you would expect
counterculture from teens and younger people sometimes makes california look tame (thankfully few in number)
counter-counterculture of people going THE CALIFORNIANS ARE RUINING EVERYTHING which might even be true but the people saying it are insufferable
can be a difficult dating scene outside of Pocatello if you're not religious or not at least adhering to a moral code

I’ve never had an issue with Mormons. They will keep you at arms length because you’re not Mormon, but in general they’re good people. I wouldn’t want to work for a Mormon, heard plenty of stories from UT friends about being passed over for promotions and opportunities for no clear reason besides being non-Mormon
>>

I'd say this is accurate.

I have lived in Utah for 4 years now and I have to say this is the most isolated I've felt in my entire life.

You find people say that they are not LDS, or don't go to church anymore because they are in an experimental phase or want to feel cool. Maybe they sense that you are an outsider so they don't want to be stigmatized. Maybe they are in a current but short lived retaliation against their church's dogma.
But the reality is they are all in the closet about being LDS. Most of them, if they stay in Idaho/Utah with all their peers, will soon be funneled back into the herd shutting out anyone else. Later in life when they have kids and want to further exalt their family status toward the community. The way the church operates is on a quid pro quo/ keeping up with the Jones' mentality.

LDS girls are not super slutty, but they will hook up with you if you can be a catch. But they won't stick around unless you're in the church. It has been instilled in them since childhood that their ultimate purpose in life is to get sealed in the temple to their dream guy and they can't do that unless you have a temple recommend. I'm saying this living in Utah its probably worse in Idaho.

So just from my experience I would not move out there if you are single and not mormon or don't plan on becoming one.
Unless you bring a wife out there with you or import one or become gay, etc.

I hate to say it but unless you are going to the actually fucked states like NY/CA/HI/IL, you aren't losing that much unless you're a legit lower middle class.

Depends. Some places get it back in property taxes so unless you want to be a rentalcuck it can't bite you.
