What was the worst place you traveled?for me fiji probably the poorest country I've ever been too every place is infested with bed bugs its hot and humid as fuck i even got a fungal infection on my dick, nuts and gooch because it was so humid my underwear was soaked all day and when i tried to sleep i almost got robbed at a hostel there too i was trying to sleep when i open my eyes with a dude standing over me trying to grab the phone attached to the charger near my bed. despite all that i did meet a rich fijian who invited me to his house and had a big feast and drank kava with me. he also bought me some fijian clothes and got me a hotel "still shitty" room by the airport for the flight i had the next day. id definitely say fiji is one of those places where id recommend you go the boomer route to a all-inclusive resort if you ever go
>>2739198Congrats anon, you experienced real tropical island life without artificial revenue flows driven by mass travel from prosperous countries.>fungal infectionGoddamn filthy Europeans. >infested with bed bugsWhy not sling a hammock and mosquito net?
> hostel>got robbedGood. scum like you deserve it.If you can't pay for a nice experience, expect a shit one. If you dont like it, fuck off. Hope you get stabbed next time
>>2739208didn't have one i was only in fiji because i had to leave Australia while my working holiday visa got approved then come back and reenter on that instead of a tourist one
>>2739198I thought about going to fiji to get a beejee but meh
>>2739198how was the fijian kava? did he give you traditional ceremony? that's really an honor to get invited in that way in their culture.
> What was the worst place you traveled?Montevideo fuck all to do, shit food, shit weather, you'd think there'd be beaches because its on the coast but no. Not even cafes on the water, nothing. Also the restaurants close at like 1030 - 11, but the nightlife doesnt kick off till 230AM, so wtf do you do in the meantime? Also Marrakesh, because it's full of moroccans.
O.P. Jindal Global University. I was paid to go there, but boy do I regret it, they claim to be the best private university in India. I tell you it was wild. Dogs shitting in the libraries, staircases leading to nowhere, a layer of filth on everything, never mind all the 'minor' faults like sagging ceilings, fake power points and strange old women who sit in the gardens like gnomes (they didn't do any work, they just sat there stroking the petals of the flowers for some reason). I've done stuff at shittier universities across South East Asia and Africa, but even though they were shit I could see that they were trying to uplift the standards.India in general is depressing, dead people in the streets and so on, but this particular place was a real let down because for some reason I thought this billionaire's pet project to improve India was going to be at least at the lower end of Western standards. It wasn't.
>>2739268>Montevideoi wouldn't expect good beaches in a small Minnesota town nor a good nightlife annon
>>2739240Tastes like licorice , makes your tongue slightly numb.
>>2739401.
>filthy OP takes a shower every other month>gets fungal infection>it's Fiji's fault!Anon...
>>2739417>so hot and humid balls chafe walking around >no matter how many times you change your boxers are drenched after 3 hours due to heat and humidity fungus develops
>>2739458Heat rash or prickly heat is common for white people living in a tropical climate. The more you scratch it, the more it's gonna itch and prickle and drive you crazy.>drenched after 3 hoursEvery time I return from a long walk, I take a shower and shitpost naked for a bit as my clothes dry out under the fan or A/C. It's not difficult, anon.
>>2739198montenegro was pretty bad overall but still I havent actually been to a real shithole
>>2739274>Dogs shitting in the libraries, staircases leading to nowhere, a layer of filth on everything, never mind all the 'minor' faults like sagging ceilings, fake power points and strange old women who sit in the gardens like gnomes (they didn't do any work, they just sat there stroking the petals of the flowers for some reason).sounds like something out of a david lynch movie
>>2739268>tfw when heading to Montevideo from BA in a few weeks for 48 hoursfuck, it is over? Can I at least smoke some pot while I wait for my flight?
>>2739198Berlin. Place was a gloomy shit hole with no good food.
India, no contest. I thought nothing could beat Egypt but there you go, it's even worse. For the record, I haven't been to the supposed "nice parts" in the South and in the mountains, but the non-Himalayan North is absolutely vile. Every single stereotype about Indian poverty and filth is true and then some, but what gets me most is the constant harassment and the uncanny ability this country has to make even the simplest fucking things an absolute pain in the ass.
>>2739481Why are you going to Montevideo? Having been there, I can't honestly think of a reason to go there again, especially when there are such better places nearby. They say the best thing about Montevideo is getting on the Buquebus ferry back to BA. picrel
>>2739604flight was a couple hundred dollars cheaper out of Uruguay. Also never been before, so I figured I might as well cross it off the list. I read on the Colonia Express google reviews that they ask from traveler's/health insurance. that's bullshit, right?
>>2739535I've been to Mumbai and Delhi and its actually a good time if you do rich people things that cost money. For example, staying at hotels like the Taj, always having a driver to drop you door to door, eating at the more renowned fancy places where you know they maintain a passable level of hygiene. Otherwise, staying in the non-affluent areas in < 4* hotels, eating street food and walking around will ensure that you will come across your fair share of dalits, and that's nasty.
>>2739605yeah i guess that's ok then. Spend a few hours and tick it off a list. Not sure about travel insurance bit though. I always have it because of my credit card, but i can't remember if anyone asked.
I went to Gatlinburg, TN, without knowing much about itA tourist trap hell next to the most crowded National Park in the country, and it was 100 degrees with no rain the entire time I was there. Doesn't compare to getting mushrooms on my cock like the OP but that's hard to beat
America-Loud-Fat-Annoying-Always wants to bring up MUH FREEDUMS-didn't feel safe when I was visiting(Miami)Not going back I stayed there for 10 days and it was so expensive and bad that I don't get why americans think it's good
>>2739198depends what your definition of "worst" is. there is good and bad everywheremost boring : riyadh. just a fucking tedious place with no redeeming featuresscariest : i don't recall really being actually scared in many places but using public transport in big US cities late at night is up there. so many weird people just on a hair trigger looking for a reason to spazz outfrustrating : india or malaysia. corrupt bureaucratic nightmare places where the only way to get anything done is give someone a bribeworst food : japan. i know this is a dogwhistle for all the weebs on here but i can't stand jap food. all that fucking seaweed. blech
>>2739607>>2739604>>2739605>>2739481>>2739268Best parts of Uruguay are Punta del Este (the best beaches south of Brazil, also great nightlife) and Colonia (cute "romantic" town for boomer couples). Maybe also some of the more remote beach towns along the coast (like Cabo Polonio) if you want to avoid the dudebro crowds that fill up Punta del Este in the summer. Those are basically the parts of Uruguay where we go on vacay. Montevideo itself sucks.t. Argie
Also I don't have a worst place myself, I liked everywhere I've been to. Maybe if I had to pick something to critique I would say Cagliari could use more bars and nightlife, people meet up at the front of the church to drink which was very weird to me. A bar that stays open late would be a great business idea right there. Fucking loved Sardegna otherwise.
>>2739612america is good cause of the national parks but most american cities are shit (i still think nyc is cool cause i live near there) miami is good cause you can get one of those half life 2 boats in the everglades
>>2739646Australia and American cities are similarly shit i found
>>2739198i'm currently in georgia and it's fucking shit, these people are insufferable and it's the most soulless, self-hating place i've ever seen

India is so awful that it loops back around to being amazing if you have a dark sense of humor. The memes don't do it justice. It's legitimately like visiting a gigantic landfill.
I'm in south India currently and its not *that* bad. People are nice, food is good, temples are beautiful.. its dirty and theres dogs everywhere, but I think it improves 1000% if you get a driver for your stay
bad? el salvador.worst compared to my expectations? south africa.
>>2741135>>2741143How are the neighbouring South Asian countries? Are they better? Worse?
>>2741212Depends. In general the more Northern areas near the Himalayas have a better reputation. Less crowded cities and some pretty insane nature. I wouldn't travel to South Asia and go to Mumbai or some shit like that
Philadelphia. The people are miserable. The city is unsafe. You can see it all in an afternoon. You're just as likely to get food poisoned or stabbed than have a good time.
not utterly awful but Nepal felt shitty compared to how it was talked up.The tourist parts are shittified by backpacker money and backpacker aestheticsLocals envy each other because white people can't stop hobbying as saviorsPrime vacation spot for indians
Turkmenistan. I've been to other highly authoritarian states but I've never seen people as broken as in there. It's a really beautiful country like all of central asia but good lord it's such a dystopian hellhole. In fairness I've never been to North Korea but from what I can tell, it would probably feel like an absurdist performance show on a country sized scale in comparison. Turkmenistan tries, poorly, to put up a thin veil of normalcy in place and it just feels so jarring.
>>2741212I've been to Indonesia before India, its similar in regards to how locals throw their trash everywhere and the low standard regarding hotel hygiene, but I guess theres a bit less creepy staring and no harassement. Great nature aswell and its cheaper

>>2739198Top 5 worst places I have been to1. Utar Pradesh, India2. Gujarat, India3. Maharashtra, India4. Rajastan, India5. Goa, India
>>2741212I liked Nepal and Sri Lanka way more, just way more chill and less dirty. Bangladesh is probably worse, but I have never been.
paris is the only city where i've seen people openly defecating. i went as a teenager with a youth group. we got a hotel in the diverse part of town. it was an educational experience.
>>2739198The worst European capital I have visited was Dublin. It's ugly as fuck, the main street is an open air bus station filled with junkies and bums and every "nice" area is utterly infested with heroin addicts. The Georgian architecture is alright but very Dickensian, the newer parts of town (New Docks) look like an enormous potemkin village/Soviet apartment complex but for tech workers.Everything was absurdly expensive in comparison with other cities as well. There's basically no reason to spend time there unless you want to visit a museum or you're on your way to the airport.
Cleveland, OH.>entire downtown area smelled like piss >human feces everywhere>tons of homeless people>Lake water was disgusting>Most people were of the loud and rude "urban demographic" types>constantly had to look over shoulder walking around the city>food sucked>got jumped on the bus leaving the airport at night>bugs at hotel despite over $150/night
Cabo San Lucas and all of Mexico. What a dirty, hot, fucked up, horrible place. Lasted all of 30 minutes in Cabo before getting the fuck out. Every motherfucking Mexican is aggressively coming at you trying to get money from you. The fucking crime and cartels are out in the open. I wandered into the big famous bar down there and was promptly offered cocaine while watching a bunch of crazy Black people lose their minds singing in the most niggerish fucking loud babble imaginable. Mexico is a loud, horrible, dirty, corrupt, hot, miserable place. Also how the fuck is there no air down there? There is literally no breeze or wind or air... it's this hot fucking miserable feeling that sucks the life out of you.Holy fuck is Mexico a miserable place. I realize there's shittier places in the world. India has to be the most disgusting place in the world. But after going to Mexico, I have no desire to ever step foot in the third world ever again.
>>2741210Why did you have high expectations of SA?
>>2741143Been to Thailand? Wonder how it compares, I can handle that amount of dirt and dogs but probably not much more
>>2739198I went to Chennai and Bangalore in India on a business trip in 2016. I can confirm that everything they say about India being a chaotic shithole is absolutely true. I struggle to think of any redeeming qualities about India or Indians. I was never so happy to leave a country. >>2741212The only neighbouring country I've been to is Sri Lanka and it is more tolerable than India. Generally cleaner and with better infrastructure and people are somewhat nicer, some parts of Sir Lanka have amazing landscapes and natural beauty. It's still a bit of a third world shithole though just not as bad as India. >>2742674>Been to Thailand? Wonder how it comparesThailand is paradise compared to India.
>>2739198>go to nation famous for beach resorts>stay in hostel in the poor people city centralliterally some people are born retarded
>>2741135Can you elaborate on this? I’m curious about India and pajeet stories
I thought India was a shithole but then I went to Bangladesh, holy shit what a dump.Non-South Asia division champ has to be Managua, Nicaragua. Genuinely nothing to do, genuinely seedy throughout, complete dump though not quite in the India/Bangladesh tier. it felt sketchy just walking from the IC across the street to McDonalds. Rest of the country is fine, nice even. Nicaraguan “cuisine” is about the most bland imaginable, probably the most noteworthy thing about the country.
>>2739198>third worldprobably India but I didnt stay long, biked in from Nepal and noped out and turned around and left. It was so dangerous and disgusting for absolutely no reason. >first worldsweden 100%. I was there during george floyd and my god what a demented police state society that is.
>>2739613I met a taiwanese guy living in riyadh that loved it and thought it was better than taipei. I think he must have had brain cancer.
>>2742548Cabo is a ripoff-priced globohomo beach resort, barely even feels Mexican. When did you go, August? Of course it's gonna be sweltering.
>>2743903>I was there during george floydElaborate. Were you actually there or are you just repeating low IQ /pol/ memes?
>>2739961Go back
>>2739198why didnt you just stay in a hotel like a normal person instead of staying in a hostel like a dirty poor?
>>2744099the memes are mostly true, the people are really weird and extreme, one guy asked me directions to the train station (in swedish) but I understood and pointed and replied in english. when he heard my american accent he started laying into me for electing trump and followed me back to my hostel yelling at me and calling me racist.
Since so many posters point to India I want to ask: how bad is Goa and how expensive is it compared to going to other parts of India? Is it worth it?Merry Christmas
>>2742674Thailand has its third-world parts but it's nowhere nearly as bad as India.
>>2739608Lol surely you must have barely travelled if you thought Gatlinburg was bad? The tourist trap stuff isn't even that bad compared to better known places
London>needed to crash for a night till next bus came>vomit, trash and poor people sleeping on the streets everywhere>grab a cheap hotel in paddington>black mold in the bathroom, sheets look used, carpet looks dirty and unvacuumedthe lowest point in my 14 day vacation to scottland. Spent christmas day in london and couldnt believe they shut down all public transport like children awaiting santa claus.
>>2744517The one time I was in London (I had to spend entire night there waiting for a friend's arrival in the morning) at midnight, everything in the entire city fucking died (aside from one KFC and a casino). It was surreal. Maybe I was blind, but there was no night life there. Thankfully, he arrived a bit earlier and we spend the night just walking around the place.
>>2744233it's slightly more expensive than the rest of India, which means it's cheap as fuck. I had an okay hotel in Jan '23 that was $10 a night, right next to arambol beach. and that was a more expensive area. the south of Goa is apparently very tranquil and cheap too. Goa isn't as crazy as the rest of India but you're still in India, lol. it's worth it if you're already in India but it's got nothing on your average Thai island, except the prices
>>2744570I've been to India before as a backpacker. very dirty, but unique (to say the least) experience. are there people that nomad there? it's one of the cheapest countries in the world. are there cities in India where I can get a luxury hotel room with zero water/electricity/internet issues and live super cheap for a few months?
>>2744223Ok and how is that related to your /pol/cel meme post?
>>2744570Interesting. Some Indian guy a while back on /trv/ was saying that Goa is now overpriced and the Thai islands offer him better deals and a far more pleasant and harassment-free environment. But I doubt you're gonna find a room near the beach for $10/night anywhere in Thailand. Of course with all the India hate going around on this website, it's difficult to get an unbiased Real Traveler assessment. India is also a huge country, and a lot of travelers are lazy pieces of shit who mindlessly follow recommendations and don't bother to put in the effort to seek out their happy place. >>2744269It's the contrast between the pristine natural beauty of the national park and the hideous landrape of commercial development along the traffic-clogged highways that makes Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge so repellent to nature lovers.
