Are these people as cheap as they say or is it all urban myth? Would like to hear some of your experiences before I travel there. What can I expect?

expat here, living in AMS for three years
I know and can tell that AMS folk are a bit different compared to the rest of the country but even they are VERY frugal
people here attach value to services, goods and most of the times will refuse to pay extra for perks

they are not as cheap as you imagine them to be, but you immediately feel the vibe shift when you find yourself in a situation where one has to cover/lend/negotiate. they will for example
>see a deal for 4 avocados for the price of 2
>will ask if you want one as they can only go through 3 a week
>if you say sure and get the 'cado, you bet your ass it will come up sometime, in some form
they are afraid of debt, credit cards, payment plans; dont have an appetite for ANY form of luxury apart from dining out, etc
they are 50%+ athesists, so much so that Islam will take over Christianity as the biggest religion in a decade probably, but they are still Calvinist to the core. look up what that is and you'll understand them better. they are aggressively normal and frugal.

but I mean you are a tourist so none of these matter

Lodging throughout the country seems overpriced for no reason and hotel rooms didn't even have a coffee maker. Spent five days here this fall and that was enough for one lifetime.

I spent 2 nights in Amsterdam, nice place. No need to ever go back. There isn't a whole lot to do. The red light area is fun for about 10 mins and then you feel disgusted with yourself for even being there and adding to the collective misery of those women. The weed shops are fine but I'm from Canada so the novelty has very much worn off now and I much prefer doing that in the comfort of my own home. Food is ok. Bit expensive for what it is but I was recommended a couple of places that were fine. Supermarkets are cheap and good quality if you want to just pick up a salad or sandwich for lunch. I can comfortably say I've done Amsterdam now in just a couple of days and won't ever go back.

You said it perfectly, anon. Two days in Amsterdam is plenty for one lifetime. Weed doesn't interest me anymore, and it is legal in my state anyways, so the coffeeshop novelty wasn't a big deal. The prostitution is incredibly discreet and regulated and seems tame in comparison to streetwalkers in Seattle or the escort card people on the Vegas strip.
Automats were a cool novelty but the food was unremarkable otherwise.

Tikkie culture is huge there (not to be confused with Hawaiian culture).

So is all dating over there "Dutch" even a coffee?
>>
I was in Budapest a few years ago with my girlfriend on vacation. We went out to dinner with 2 local girls and a guy who was visiting from Amsterdam. When the bill came, it was only like $70 for all 5 of us so we just paid it. The Dutch dude was shocked. His brain could not comprehend that we paid with no strings attached. I'm going to Amsterdam this year in September and I plan on buying some locals drinks in the bar and then refusing to let them pay me back just to enjoy their reactions. I don't even know if they'll enjoy it. Does it stress them out?
>>
>>2746304
no
men usually pay for the dates, however when/if things evolve into a relationship everyone is kind of expected to pull in their weight

>>2745972
really well put
you either visit it for 2 days and be done with it or live there for 2+ years and enjoy the vibes

its not a city to be in for a week, both shorter and way longer works better

>muh collective misery
>>
>>2746344
No I think they’ll just show some amount of polite gratitude. Even in the USA when people pick up the bill you’re supposed to performatively insist that “no its OK we can pay” before the perfunctory gesture of relenting and then somewhat profusely thanking them for their generosity.

I'm thinking about visiting in the new year to eat some mushrooms to keep the mind limber, and looking through listings on booking.com, I keep finding places trying to charge extra for towels and/or bedding, ex. "you're expected to bring your own bedding, but if you don't, we can provide some for an extra 20 Euros." Who the fuck is so stingy that they charge extra for bedding? Who the fuck would travel with their own bedding in order to save money? Apparently the answer is "The Dutch".

Hijacking this post to ask-- anyone know how I can find a place to stay that's cool with drugs and hookers? Most of the listings I see on booking.com say "No drugs, no prostitution" somewhere in the rules. I just want somewhere private that I can be left the fuck alone for a few days.

So let me get this straight: if you have a big dick prostitutes in Amsterdam's red light district let you do it raw, if you last longer than 10 minutes they let you creampie, if you make them orgasm they let you do it for free and if you're handsome and they have the hots for you they let you crash at the brothel/their place.
Did I get it right?

the cooming has fried your brain cells retard.

>>2746522
Going to sleep in a brothel sounds like a remarkably bad idea.

Is this a joke?

Paste the text and link to properties that charge less if you bring your own bedding and more if you need their bedding. It sounds mad.
>>
>>2745972
I'm pretty sure those collectively miserable women earn more than you
