Just got back from a 5-day trip to Kyiv. I'm gonna post a load of my photos here. Feel free to ask questions.Itinerary: I got an early flight from my home city to Krakow, then took a train to Krakow centre. From there I picked up my sleeper train tickets from the post office, caught a second train to Przemysl and killed a few hours by getting zurek and pierogi at a small cafe. I wandered around Przemysl for an hour or so; nice town. Then I waited in line for 10 mins at the immigration building, crossed through and caught a sleeper train
I was the only person in my four-berth couchette, which was pretty comfy. I read my book, wrote my diary and managed to get a good night's sleep. In the morning my friend picked me up and we went back to her flat. This is in a commieblock dorm area of the city.
We went for a walk through the city. This is the belltower and domes of St Michael's monastery.
Outside St Michaels there is a small display of destroyed Russian military vehicles. Most of these were taken from Bucha; that's where Putin's 2022 attempt to take Kyiv got to. Kinda amazing that the Ukrainians stopped them there; Bucha is a 45 minute drive from Kyiv.
Orthodox churches and monasteries, of which there are very many in Kyiv, are extremely garish on the inside. I prefer the outsides; far more elegant.
The artwork was a bit wild, also.
The weather was appalling. We took a walk through the mosaic park.
Last pic for tonight as I need to pack for a drive tomorrow, and sleep. The mosaic park was really cool; great views from the upper town down into Podil. Feel free to ask questions and I will make every effort to answer them tomorrow.
Are you jewish?
>>2743301Does Vareniki Katyusha food chain still alive? I had a blast eating there in '17
>>2743294did you fugg
>>2743301Did conscription police confront you?
>>2743325No>>2743368I didn't notice, sorry.>>2743381No. She is a friend and I am in a long-term relationship.>>2743389No. We saw them speaking to other people and checking papers, but maybe I just looked too obviously foreign?
Lots of really cool orthodox churches.
Lots of the buildings, in the upper town and in Podil, have cool murals painted on them. A lot of the murals are about the war. Some smaller ones are tributes to people who have been killed in the war. There are also lots of posters and adverts showing people how they can volunteer or otherwise support the military.
My friend translated all these posters etc for me. Can't remember what this one says. They were really interesting and definitely designed to appeal to young men in particular. Lots of Ukrainians have enlisted voluntarily.
There's a cool funicular railway linking the upper town and the old dock area, by the Dnieper. It costs about 20c to ride.
Tributes to fallen soldiers in the maidan. This square is where the 2014 revolution of dignity started. The tributes are grouped by battallion; each battalion has its own area, with its flag. I found this pretty moving desu; so many of them were so young. Fucking Russians.
The metro system is also part of the city's bomb shelter. The underground was super efficient; we used it a lot.
Some beautiful mosaics in the underground.
Ngl I thought this advert was cool af. A motorbike, a hot bird holding a gun, a helicopter...it has everything.
The glass on the door at the front of my friends building has been sellotaped in case a bomb falls nearby.
The next day we went to some art galleries. This one was about traditional Ukrainian Christmas celebrations.
I won't post too much art, but the Ukrainian Christmas stuff was really interesting. There's a whole parade with loads of set characters; death, a she-goat, an old woman etc.
There were some cool contemporary art installations inspired by the oldtime Christmas traditions.
Went to a hipster bar and listened to some drum and synth lol. They were fundraising for drones; see the QR codes on the one hanging from the ceiling. Very young, hip crowd at this bar.
Little Putins hanging by their necks from a wine glass.
Some arty shots of my friends commieblock lol
Night city
This is the mother Ukraine statue. It was built in Soviet times and faces Moscow. The hammer and sickle on the shield were removed last year and replaced with the trident. It is over 100m tall and made of titanium.
The soviet-era WWII memorial.
Merry Christmas, /trv/. I apologise for making a travel thread that isn't a thinly veiled coomer thread. I hope you're enjoying it and I will post more tomorrow.
Any issues at immigration?
Great thread. Merry Christmas.

>>2744152Nope. On the way in the sleeper train stopped at the border, guards came on and stamped my passport. On the way out...that's a story for later on in this thread.>>2744200>>2744204You're welcome>>2744211It was a comfy trip, in some ways.
This way to Moscow.
This was used to evacuate Bucha during the 2022 Russian advance. Lots of bullet holes.
The inside of one of those orthodox churches
Comfy oldschool tram system.I should talk about we the food. We ate out every lunch and dinner. The food was amazing; traditional Ukrainian, some Crimean tartar style, some westerm. It was all really good, fresh and cheap. The kind of meal that would set me back £40 in Bongland was £15 in Kyiv.
Went back past the memorials in the day. Several more had been added.
We visited this crazy oldschool gym on an island in the Dnieper. Truly a magical place.
This is from an overgrown cemetery in the woods. The building is the mausoleum of two Polish brothers, top surgeons, who settled in Kyiv.
We walked through the woods and came to Babyn Yar.I'm not gonna type out the story of Babyn Yar here. Look up the article on Wikipedia. It's a grisly event from the holocaust. This memorial takes the form of a fold-up synagogue. Amazingly, it folds shut so that it looks like a book.
Another part of the memorial. The metal has been shot through with the number and calibre of bullets used in the executions.
Beautiful thread, thank you so much. Please keep going

There are now direct overnight sleeper trains from Budapest, so I was thinking of visiting. As for the fighting-age men who have left Ukraine, I'm not going to condemn their behaviour until I have been in the same situation and know what I'd do, which hopefully will never happen.>>2744395Enjoy LaosNow to tell the story of leaving Ukraine. I wasn't able to get a train ticket out so I booked a flix bus from Kyiv to Krakow. This left at 2045 and went overnight, so I resigned myself to a night of bad sleep and arriving at Krakow at 6am. This did not go according to plan. All was well till we reached the border and joined a queue of 30 buses. Each bus was taking well over an hour to to go through the border, so clearly I was going to be massively delayed. After we had been stationary for 2 hours I got my luggage (small, free Ryanair carry-on only) and walked to the front of the queue. Here I started speaking with the bus drivers; third one back was going to Krakow an took my 20 euros to let me on kek. Had to wait another three hours to get through security but I got to Krakow at around 2100. Got some food, had a night in a hostel then next day I got the train to Wroclaw and flew home from there. So I did end up delayed by a day but it wasn't awful and only cost me another £50 all-in. I hope you all enjoyed the story of my trip to Kyiv. The Ukrainians I met were all sound, decent people and I hate that their country is under attack from POS Ruzzians. The Ukrainian sense of humour is extremely dark; I was in Kyiv when their security services assassinated that Russian general using an electric scooter packed with explosives (kek) and there were memes of it showing on official billboards.
Nice thread, I did a year of uni in Poland in 2018 and I knew people who visited Ukraine but I never went, I wish I had.

It is sad how little Russians know about what is going on. Media censorship is a helluva drug.I wonder if you know that Kursk is occupied, that Russians shot down yet another civilian airliner, or about the fact that 10,000 Russians are dying per week, which is 3 times what American troops lost in Iraq and Afghanistan over a 22 year period. Interestingly, there would often be lots of paintings with a common theme. This was one of several where the young man and woman have met at the well, but the mother of the young woman is in the background, always with some sort of weapon.
At some point, clearly, one of the artists saw a picture of a woman with a deer. Which they then reproduced. And one of their mates saw that, and made a copy. And so on, with slight variations.

>>2745890You are from a retarded South American country. Latinos are incapable in almost every field and can't do anything right, you can't compare them to a serious nation like Russia. The only semi capable Latino nations are Chile and Argentina. Also I think the sinking of the Venezeulan economy has a lot to do with the sanctions that the Anglo-American imposed on the country and the fact that Venezeula can't offer much besides oil, which other nations also have. Russia is different, it is so big and influential that if you sanction it, the sanctions will backfire on you. If you look at the Russia sanctions they have cutouts so Washington can receive refined nuclear fuels for its reactors, titanium for its aviation industry. Russia is the most resource country in the world. It also the largest country in the world and the idiot Finns and others for imposing sanctions on Russia are having their airlines take a pounding on flights to Asia as Moscow denies Finnair access to Russian airspace making journeys longer and more costly, allowing the aviation companies of friendlier countries like the Emirates, Qatar, China to expand with more flights to Europe. The sanctions are designed to try to punish Russia and also to make the rest of America's NATO colonies less economically sufficient and more dependent on the USA. German firms are moving whole factories and thousands of jobs each month to the USA to escape the sanctions and stupid green energy agenda of the Green idiots misruling in Berlin.

It is nothing like a hapless disorganized, highly racially stratified, incompetent Latin American country. Some NATO members like Czech Republic, Poland, Germany have literally demilitarized most of the useful heavy equipment from their mechanized and armored brigades, creating huge operational gaps and Ukraine is still losing out thanks to the tremendous production of the Russian military industry that is alone outproducing all of NATO.
>>2745905>This article says that weaker sanctions started in 2007>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._sanctions_during_the_Venezuelan_crisis>ctlr + f = 2007>not foundOK>rest of your postOK. i was just trying to give you a friendly warning. but good luck with that.
>>2745906I mistyped they allegedly started in 2008 under the pretext of not preventing narco trafficking:>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._sanctions_during_the_Venezuelan_crisis>Prior to the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned three current or former Venezuelan government officials in 2008, saying there was evidence they had materially helped the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the illegal drug trade.[8] But everyone knows that the US intelligence agencies and security services are the biggest spreaders of narco trafficking, so that is just a pretext. If it were true then Colombia and Mexico should be the most sanctioned countries in the region instead of Cuba or Venezeula.Anyway, I going to stop replying because I know how stupid white/whitish Venezuelans are who make up most the opposition and look at American whites as Gods constantly dispensing the truth and democracy.
>>2745916>three individuals were sanctioned, not the country's trade>usa was the main buyer of venezuela oil until 2019>but the 2013 crisis was the fault of 2019 sanctionsOK
>>2745918The US also funded the protestors against Chavez/Maduro and even pretends the elections are unfair and proclaims its own leader Juan Guaidó and if he steps foot amongst regular Venezeulans to eat at a restaurant he is mobbed and heckled for being a traitor. That is what the cuntish Anglo-American Empire and State Department do they have preferred candidates in every foreign election and try to muscle or cheat their preferred candidate into power. They did the same in Ukraine: Victoria Nuland of the State Department and Pyatt the US Ambassador had one of their conversations on an unsecure phone leaked where they proposed who they liked to see win in the recent Ukrainan elections and all their predictions were engineered into happening:>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2XNN0Yt6D8But when the preferred State Department candidate looses like in Romania they want to rerun elections when anti-globalist Calin Georgescu wins or they make Maidan like violent protests like what happened after Georgian Dreams recent victory. But l already know most you retarded whitish South Americans in majority non-white countries will almost always side with the Anglo-American Empire versus your own country and the majority of the people living there...
>>2745923>venezuelan elections are fair and the protests are just organized by the US>nevermind the 50,000 that have been murdered or were abducted by the government, they are western spiesbro, if i wanted to hear venezuelan government propaganda i can always watch the telesur channel online. i thought i was talking to a real person.you are only making me doubt the russian narrative even more because if you are parroting maduro who created the greatest refugee crisis in the history of the western hemisphere, your ukraine line is probably the same kind of bullshit.
>>2743294>ukrops getting snatched off the streets while westies go there to get virtue signalling points while practicing sex tourism on ukrainians who are trapped in the country by law on pain of deathfucking kek, what a world this is
>>2745890>>2745899>>2745926You're trying to argue with a vatnig, it's pointless. They've been so brainwashed by propaganda by this point it's completely useless. They refuse to accept that jewtin has signed russia's death warrant and ensured it's status as a proxy slave chink state for the next century. If you take a look at these comments, it's projection after projection (limbless/dead men, fighting for jews, whore women, selling out country to become proxy slave state). I think deep down, they know this is true for them as well. I'm a Canadian in Argentina now, and it's filled with russian IT specialists and women applying for citizenship or trying to hop on a foreign dick. I saw it in Georgia as well. russia is at well over 700,000 killed in wounded in Ukraine in just 3 years, while they control less territory than they had in the first couple months. I think they refuse to accept the truth because it's too horrendous to come to the realization of how badly this is going to end for them, so they just play along with the russian state line of, "everything is fine, don't believe anything but what we tell you."I've also met a lot of Venezuelans here. Of course none of them defend Maduro and have been explained to me how corrupt and rigged the elections are there. You can be sure that anyone claiming that Maduro is a legit leader is most likely a BRICSbot and/or drinking the tankie turdie kool-aid
