well you see, he's a larper
larpers don't consider things like that which actual travelers find out is a no-go in carry on's and deliberately avoid

the towels are also questionable since you can just buy a towel wherever you go for cheap. It makes no sense to bring your own unless they are those special quick dry ones.

Sadly can't keep a wine key on me for travel kit as I only do carry-on 99% of the time. Usually I stock these in my travel pack:
>clothes
>poncho
>mini-umbrella
>toiletries bag (small toothpaste, brush, floss sticks, antiperspirant, small nail clipper)
>med kit (bandages, antibacterial cream, gauze)
>small loose cap
>glasses
>small light towel and swim trunks
>light bath sandals
>GoPro in bag with charger and everything minus SD cards outside of a blank
And then keep valuables in a money belt and chargers, SD cards, transit shit and change in my shoulderbag. Definitely have looked like an easy target at times for pickpockets but haven't gotten hit yet as I try to stay away from crowds and usually travel to more isolated towns and outdoor areas.

OP here
I have my clothes in a separate duffel bag. This is my loadout for a tropical climate.
>8 pairs boxers
>8 pairs socks (soon to be unnecessary, but I'll save them anyway for work next summer)
>10 shirts, eventually I'll throw a couple away
>3 long pants and 1 shorts
>swimming trunks
>2 bandanas
I don't have a home while traveling, leaving behind only a couple contractor trash bags stashed in my boss' office, so I brought most all my clothing with me.
>>2744780
As far as meds, I have Tylenol, allergy pills, pseudoephedrine, anti-diarrheal pills, pro-diarrheal pills, anti-itch cream, a few melatonin pills, bandaids, and earplugs. The earplugs are the only item I use on any kind of regular basis.

It might seem stupid to carry so much extra shit I hardly ever use, but the weight on my shoulders can feel comforting during those times when I'm homeless and adrift somewhere in the world. A duffel full of clothes also makes a nice cushy seat when necessary.
>>
>>2744771

I can even think of a few more situations.
>you ordered delivery/takeout and the restaurant forgot to include cutlery
>you're eating street food that the locals normally eat with their hands, but you would feel a lot more comfortable with a utensil
I actually pack a spork rather than a spoon in my bag so I can cover my bases. I'll fully admit, I only ever had to use it twice, but both of those times I was glad I had it.

>You gonna slop it up with your fingers?
I actually did this with a Häagen-Dazs.
I stayed in a hotel with absolutely zero food service, so I couldn't even ask to borrow one of their spoons because they didn't have any.
I also didn't want to get dressed, go back outside, and try to buy a spoon at night, not to mention my ice cream would be melting while I was fucking around outside.
This was before I started bringing a spork with me, so I dug in with my hand. It felt disgusting.
>>
>>2744831
>allergy pills
You probably already knew this, and this is common sense to anyone who actually reads warning labels, but do not mix that shit with alcohol. One time I took a pill after having a mild allergic reaction, then I had a beer with my lunch. It was only one beer, but it fucked me up. I essentially roofied myself. I nearly fell asleep a few times, even while walking/standing. I knew something was clearly wrong, so I went back to my hotel to sleep it off. I barely held it together on the metro ride.
I'm only saying this because I rarely make retarded mistakes but it still happened to me.

>>2744847
nta but I would rather do my laundry once every 8 days. I don't want to do it any more often than that. Pants don't get as dirty as underwear and shirts, so you can get away with packing less.

If you keep going to Asia, I would just buy a 220 V charger that has a usb-c fast charging port and a regular old style port. That way you can charge two usb devices at once, one fast and the other slower. Also remove the American prong from your laptop power brick and get a 220v one for the Asian prong. That way you won’t need a bulky, insufficient power adapter that will tie you to one outlet. Now you can use two outlets.

Also if you travel you should bring a small battery bank for your phone. I’d recommend a 5000 mah one since it’s smaller and plenty to recharge a phone. When you travel you’re always using mapping services and looking up where to eat, what to do, so you’re battery will die. Though for the digital nomad types it’d be better to get a larger power bank suitable for a laptop maybe.

Also in your pic you have nothing for organization. Get a bathroom roll to put all your bathroom accessories.

Get something like these 4 Travel On mesh pouches:
https://www.travelonbags.com/shop/packables-and-packing/packing-pouches/set-of-4-mesh-pouches/13435.html?dwvar_13435_color=blue&quantity=1&catid=Packing-Pouches

What? Maybe at a lazy sucky place they forgot toilet paper. If you complain they’ll get off their asses and stock it most likely.

I’ve stayed at hostels in Greece that don’t give you towels. They charge a small free for that usually 1-3€. I bring a small Sea to Summit ultra light micro fiber towel incase I go swimming though. And sometimes I’ve used to avoid the towel fee at certain hostels.

Some advice:
Sleep masks are almost all made cheaply with foam glued onto cloth and ruin. They don’t last longer than a few months without ruining and are a waste of time.

Always travel with a winter beanie hat instead, even if it’s summer. You can simply lower the beanie over eyes to sleep on a plane, train, in your bed, etc. And if it get colder at night, even in summer, you have a beanie to keep your head warm.
>>
>>2744561
That doesn’t look enough clothes for 7 months, even in summer or tropical countries…

Also, try minimalist shoes like those made by Vivobarefoot, Merrel, Xero shoes. That way you can have a lightweight second pair of shoes that is awesome for walking while taking up less weight and space.

These are 4 compression packing cubes and a laundry bag from an Athens hotel for dirty clothes.

Does anyone have a suggestion of something with compression that I can put dirty clothes in? When I start to have too many dirty clothes it starts taking up way more space.
>>
>>2745061
Dirty clothes shouldn't take up much more space than clean clothes. Be sure to fold your pants and bulky items neatly as they take up more space when scrunched up. Sometimes I have to put my knee on the duffel bag to squeeze the extra air out of the dirty clothes bag.
>>2745044
In Laos, Thailand, Taiwan and the Philippines I primarily use the adapter for the 3-prong to 2-prong conversion, because most outlets in older budget hotels don't have a third prong. It cost me $2.50 and has worked very well. I initially bought it for Malaysia's Type G outlets.

Gallon ziploc bags work fine to keep miscellaneous items together.

I used to live in a van and only be able to charge my phone when I'm driving, so disciplining my phone usage comes naturally. It's very rare I let it drop below 50%. If you have no signal, turn on airplane mode or else the phone will exhaust itself searching for a tower. The only times I've ever had my phone die on me were when I forgot to turn on airplane mode in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.
>>2745046
I prefer the little plush security blanket to a beanie hat. I cut it out of a corner of the king-size blanket that I use in my work apartment. You can snuggle with it if you're feeling lonely or if the hotel blanket is scratchy...can't do that with a hat. If a hard seat is bothering your bony ass, say on a long bus ride, it can be used as a cushion. Can't do that with a hat either.
>>
>>2745047
Cheap and stylish clothes are sold at markets all over the developing world. There is really no need to pack everything you will wear for your entire trip. Hell, if you buy one of those cheapo third party Asia tickets involving a Frontier Airlines flight, skip the carry-on fee too and use the $80 you save to outfit yourself with some snazzy threads on arrival.
>>
>>2745073
I actually had more clothes in my main hotel in storage.

That amount of clothes was for a 24 day trip in November-December so I didn’t have to constantly wash.

Buying clothes after you arrive is doable, but it’s a huge time sink. I have analysis paralysis and I don’t easily buy things.
>>

>I have analysis paralysis and I don’t easily buy things

I have to buy a whole new wardrobe/at least enough clothes for my upcoming trip in late Jan which is about 12 days (friend is planning it, I'm just tagging along). I'm struggling with this so bad. I haven't even begun looking for clothes. I've put it off until jan 1st. Clothes shopping is so hard for me, I don't know what shirts to buy, what shorts, what shoes, man, I just know I'm gonna look like shit.

Longevity might be an issue, but my mask was about 1500-2000yen at don qui and will easily pay for itself with the comfort and flexibility it gives. I only sleep with it in certain hotels and situations.

I can see the beanie in theory if I had short hair, but it tends to mess my hair and give me an itchy head in the morning from my hair being bunched the wrong way

I've had stints of living out of hotels for 3 months or more. In the spirit of efficiency, I've gone down to 3 boxer shorts, 3 socks. Boxers are the uniqlo air fabric and I size up so they don't hug the balls and barely touch my skin at all when I stand, which maximizes air flow. This together with 5 shirts makes my loadout minimal but not too restrictive. I reuse each article of clothing at least 3-4 times and do laundry every two weeks at most.

I also sometimes just don't wear underwear at all if my pants are a heavy fabric (hides the bulge), since I will wind up washing the pants anyway. With shirts the main thing is choosing the fabrics correctly so that they don't pick up scents so easily. With the underwear you have to be thorough about wiping with soap and water and take multiple showers a day.

This makes everything fit into a filson briefcase + small backpack and makes changing hotels and flights significantly less painful.
>>
>>2743440
funny thing I learned over time, the most essential thing you cannot miss in your travel backpack is just money.
forgot socks? just purchase them.
your laptop broke? just get a new one.
can't use card? just use your sweet cash.
need to cross a border but don't have permits and documents? you guessed it, take out that cash.
you're cold? yup, purchase a jacket
you're hot? damn, if you really are, let's seggs
and so on.

it's lighter, more versatile, and easier to remember.

You're clearly one of those people who use scented deodorant that you think makes you smell good, but which in fact blends with your body odor to make a repellent musk. Stanky foreign travelers are a meme in so many countries, particularly Latin America.
>>
Don’t we all essentially bring the same shit? You can simplify okay but basically it’s the same phone, medicine, ear buds, external battery, and clothes. I think the hardest part is packing the right clothes for the a) weather, and b) activities. Ie. Do I bring a pair of nice shoes if I plan on going to a single nice dinner given the space it takes ect. Or deciding on the right jacket when the temp is fluctuating 10-15 degrees on the lows and there’s a possibility of rain.

I'm travelling soon, I'm probably just gonna pay for everything with my iphone. i've never used it to pay for anything before, always carried a wallet, but apparently that's what people do now, so I wanna try it. No idea how it works though. Do places let you pay with your phone or do you need an actual card/cash?
>>
>>2745780
I find using my credit card directly is easier and faster. You have to fiddle with your phone to get to your Apple Wallet, double click the side button and make sure your face is in view. If your face isn't properly in view, you have to try again, if that fails again you have to enter your passcode. Maybe if my iphone had a fingerprint reader I would use Apple pay more often since that was almost 100% reliable, but I can't tell when my camera is aimed properly at my face, so it is annoying.

>>2744561
Always annoys me on deciding on many shoes to pack. I feel like ones for daily wear, running or hiking is enough but then if I want to go to a club or good restaurant then those shoes will look gross.
And this is a concern even though I never go to clubs or fancy restaurants lol.
>>
>>2745869
Going to a fancy restaurant on vacation is stupid. They often want reservations, they take forever just to take your order, give you your food and accept payment. It will kill 2 hours to eat at a fancy restaurant. And often they don't even taste better than more casual establishments, they just appeal to snobbery.

It's women's shit. Sure if I was a woman and a guy was expected to pay and wait 4 hours between the food and some shallow bitch getting dolled up, maybe I would have a different stance. But I have a dick...
>>
>>2745873
Yeah but what if you go to a cool club in Prague, will you wear the same beaten to shit sneakers that you have been using all day for the last 3 weeks?
>>
>>2745886
I don't like clubbers, alcoholics or those who are overly focused on impressing others. I don't try to dress like a bum, but I don't dress pretentious or care about designer clothes. So I can justify slugging around fancy clothes to impress bougey people who I don't want to impress anyway.

>>2745862
It's very rare that a foreign credit or bank card is accepted for payment at a local business in Asia. Even 7-Eleven in Thailand has a pretty high minimum purchase requirement.
>>
>>2745907
Apple pay is mostly linked to a credit card or debit card anyway. So how does that work? You need Apple pay/Google pay linked directly to your checking to make payments in Asia?

Not really pleb. In Southwest’s Asia you can eat Michelin star food for the price of Applebees in the US. I would never pay the crazy price in America so in VN it’s a cool experience and the food is amazing. As far as wasting time, it’s dinner and your on vacation and it takes around 1 hour to enjoy which also happens to be the standard lunch time in developed countries outside of the US.

Anyway on the shoes front, I was thinking maybe you can buy some nice leather sneakers. They can be used casually and also don’t look out of place at a more formal place. I’ve been thinking of picking some up pic rel

Thanks, I'll set up apple pay but I'll bring my card just in case. I just don't feel like carrying a wallet anymore, that's why I want to pay with my phone.
>>
>>2745910
It's called Lao QR here, and it's apparently a government-standardized payment system that you link to your card. In Thailand it's Thai QR. I haven't set it up myself so I can't say for sure how it works. Doubtful it has anything to do with Apple or Google Pay. After you scan the QR code and input the payment information, you show the digital receipt to the vendor and then go on your way.

What I meant by foreign cards not being accepted is that you can't pay with the physical VISA or Mastercard plastic.
>>2745944
Personally I feel most comfortable having a wallet stacked like a cash register, but I'm sure as hell curious to see if it is possible for you to travel Thailand or another Asian country with zero cash transactions whatsoever. BTW many people here don't use wallets, they keep cash loose in their pants/shirt/apron pocket.

I see, thanks. This may be a stupid question, but would it make much difference to you if you put all your stuff in a suitcase like picrel? I know some people who are really obsessed with trying to travel with the smallest bag possible, but from what they tell me, it sounds like they're wasting their time and could just use a suitcase like everyone else does. I mean they're just walking from the airport to a bus/train and walking a short distance to their hotel, and suitcases are on wheels so it takes no effort to walk with them. I can only see the bag thing making sense if you're travelling long distances by foot or sleeping in a tent or something.

First off those things are gay. I can swing one bag over my shoulder with the other on my back and get over obstacles you could only dream of. I'd rather have a strong back than rattle rattle rattle everywhere. Ever think about stairs? Do those roll down dirt streets in Africa? Right now I'm in a five star hotel. My bags moved 10 feet from a car to the trolly by small brown men. It's shit. This place is wack. I need to find an uneven sidewalk, because I feel uncomfortable.

Where can I find a more robust version of slippers like these? These are some cheap Zealots of Nature slippers I got while staying at the Athens Coco-mat hotel in 2023. But they already developed a large hole in 2024. I want a slightly more robust slipper like that with a non-skid bottom so I don’t fall on my ass.

I normally bring much bulkier slippers also but they take up much more space and weigh more.

He's worse than a drug addict, he's a vitamin fiend. I would rather be stuck in a room with a drug addict for 5 hours than a vitamin fiend for 5 seconds.

I took my high quality eggs out of the mini fridge and put the on the counter because I was forcing myself to slam a dozen of them to increase my fluid quality and it gets a little messy especially if you gag but it's mandatory nutrition.

Just got on vacaytion and thought I would try to stay on top of my zinc and other vitamin levels in a big way. I even have metabolic weightloss pills I'm testing for a month to give me that edge. I'll probably toss out some tongkat ali pills I have those things are disgusting and bitter. All I need is the horsepill mutlivitamins which are actually decent and k2. I have tinctures of advanced antioxidants to save me from slum sewage and chinese herbal aphrodesiacs made from the horns of mystical animals.

Sometimes girls ask if I have AIDS in Thailand if they see vitamins on my counter. Just don't bring vitamins to Thailand.

Here’s a tip if you use a travel scale, cover it with masking tape so it lasts longer and doesn’t slowly discharge when it’s not in use. I only travel about once a year, this keeps the battery for much longer.
