I'm not super rich but have about four million USD and want to move to Japan full time (spent about a cumulative year traveling there so I know a bit of what's up). Can get a cool, cheap apartment in a city, a vacation house in inaka, and retire.

However, seems like somewhat a difficult thing to do because of visas. Unlike EU it does not seem like there is a straightforward way to buy permanent residency in Japan.

Anyone ever heard of a roundabout way to do this? A buddy told me he heard of someone working for a shell business to seem like a highly skilled worker for a couple years to get PR but search isn't bringing anything up.

Japan has a funky thing called an investor visa. I don't know all the details, but basically if you can prove you have $200k USD just lying around, you can apply for the visa. You have to prove you still have it every year. I don't know if an investment account qualifies. You should call the Japanese Embassy and ask if they can help you, this is kind of their job.

Buy a university degree from one of these degree mills (my recommendation is to go for the Australian universities because it is also a pathway for citizenship in Australia as well)

Start a bullshit business

Get some Japanese people to vouch every couple years that this do-nothing business is inherently necessary for the functioning of Japanese society

When they find out you’re running a scam you will be removed from the country and not be allowed back in for the rest of your life.
>>
>>2744351
literally everything in this post is incorrect. I guess /trv/ really is just reddit at this point
>>
>>2744355
Not a problem for the jeet scammers going in an out of the country. Just find and pay some of them to explain their scam to you.
>>
>>2744355

One of the requirements is to find a way to get PR that is more loophole than illegal. Obviously.

>>2744370

Yeah, he's conflating the "long stay" visa which requires the equivalent of 30m¥ in a bank account. Still, I'm worried about relying on this for my retirement and would prefer something that is at least a path to permanent residency.
>>
>>2744371
In and out of the country? How is that the same thing as moving to Japan full time?
>>2744377
You’re literally talking about a shell company scam in the OP retard.
>>
>>2744381

No one is speaking of scams except you here, dummy. Shell companies exist for entirely legitimate and legal reasons.
>>
>>2744384
Ok you’re right try the shell company
>>
>>2744389

I would like to explore it and other options, which is why I posted this. Some reddit replies like yours are par for the course these days unfortunately but しょうがない

Go pay an immigration professional to figure it out if you're such a richfag.
>>
>>2744391
You’re the one using reddit spacing. I live in Japan already I don’t have to ask 4chan for visa advice.
>>

Get an investor visa
Set up a stupid bar like Anime themed bar only open 4 days a week from 6PM to 10PM or start a Kebab stand
Hire a few locals to run it
Fuck off

Be ready to spend upwards of half your 4m to get that all done though
>>
>>2744646
Why not real Kansas City BBQ. It's 10 times better than kebab shit.

Be careful in japanese, they have a hell of judicial system for gaijin

I was arrested and detained for 22 (yes 1 day less than the 23) just for puting a bento in my plastic bag. I didn't even leave the store but the japanese lady thought i was stealing and call the police.

I was in the fucking magazine corner for 5 min without moving and the police still arrested me when they arrived.

I didn't know what where they charging me after like 5 days.

At the end as i did't sign confesion and i didn't leave the store they relased me in 22 days
>>
>>2744834
lol. No offense but you’re obviously not fluent in English where the fuck are you from? This shit is funny as fuck. Also are you allowed back to Japan?
>>
>>2744834
Lived in Japan for 6 years. Once a guy from Brazil who worked with us was arrested because a woman said she was robbed in front of a hospital. The guy was at the hospital as his wife was giving birth. He got arrested because the woman said the offender was a foreignerThe police didn't care, he was a foreigner, and he got arrested. In the end, the woman admitted she was not robbed and was afraid to tell the family she lost money gambling, pointing to a foreigner to be more convincing. He got out after 3 months, but he lost his job and the birth of his son. And the woman, nothing, nothing, he tried to sue the woman, but it was not accepted because she was Japanese and "apologized."

I live in tokyo and need a zeirishi for crypto and income stuff + American taxes does anyone have any recommendations?

Get married to a pure bred yamato nadeshiko and spawn a few mutts
>>
It seems isolating to me to live in Japan. You have to band together with other foreigners, and deal with constantly being 'the other' if you're not Japanese.

Having a pied-à-terre however, doesn't sound too bad.

This is a LARP. People with four million in assets have financial advisers. They don’t ask for advice from weabo and hardcore vidya gamers that make up the loser base of chanboards…

It’s very easy to migrate anywhere if you have that much wealth. Pretty much any country would give you citizenship.
>>
>>2745225
>People with four million in assets have financial advisers
>financial advisers
>advisers
lmao
>Pretty much any country would give you citizenship.
No. You can go to Poortugal. That's about it for firsties, if you don't want to pay an exorbitant amount.

How bad is teaching English really? I’ve already spent close to a decade working in education and education administration? What’s a few years “teaching English?” I don’t know why people are so allergic to it to be honest. OP, just get a degree, get an English teacher job, and job hop until you find a cushy gig. What’s the issue?
>>
>>2745282
Teaching English in Japan can’t be compared to working in education because you will actually be an English speaking mannequin / slave and your salary will be barely adequate to survive even if you buy all your food on sale, no clothes, and no trips. Also, these stupid fucking weabs only imagine Tokyo or Osaka and not the actual real countryside of Japan. Shit ain’t like the anime. You will also likely be extremely lonely and will not be getting permanent residency even if you work for 10 years straight it’s not a guarantee. Your job is to repeat some phrases to kids, do shit work that seems pointless, and have no original ideas. After you’re done the Japanese would prefer for you to move back to your country but weabs think of English teaching as an immigration plan.

The OP is clearly a retard and comes across as a boomer who discovered /trv/ somehow probably from reddit. There is no way in hell he could do it and his dream to live an anime life is never coming true it’s a pointless thread.

mate everyone and their dog has several million in assets if they aren't retarded

4 mill?

Start a business, or buy one.
Rent 2x2 office room, have it as your business address. Pay yourself
You now have a business visa
>>
>>2744332
designated activities: Long Stay visa is your best bet if you want to retire

basically if you're rich and have around 30mil JPY in your bank account(can be in stocks or liquid since you're worth 4m - they say they want liquid but that's only when it's close to the 30m requirement)
this also limits your tax liability(taxes are horrible here) and lets you earn passive income from abroad
the only downside is needing to leave the country and re-apply for the visa yearly but you can just punch your residence card, pop over to korea, re-enter japan on visa waiver and re-apply once in the country.

anyone telling you to do shell company or rent an office to sponsor a business visa is an idiot, your business needs to gross 10mJPY or show financial projections that indicate growth in that direction or you won't get the visa renewed.

>>2745282
because english teachers are unilaterally unskilled faggots and get paid and treated as such, if you've done any time in education or administration you're overqualified and won't get a good job - they want white monkeys they can push around and pay pennies.

>>2745377
buying a business is also a bad idea since most businesses in japan are unproductive and deserve to fail. if you're paying under USD 10MM you're going to be buying a lemon.

>t. experienced boomer
>>
>>2745383
it doesnt matter if he buys a lemon or creates his own fraudulent business where hes the only employee that pays himself
its all about the visa
>>
>>2745385
if he sets up a shell company and just pays himself and the company doesn't gross 10m bye bye visa, same for buying a bum business and not fixing it.

he wants to retire not cuck himself out of his own money for a visa that has an expiry date of "whenever immigration or the taxfags figure out im dicking around" you fucking nigger
>>
>>2745387
its what twitch streamers do and they dont gross anywhere close to 10 mill
>>
>>2744332
I understand that the Japanese healthcare system is cruel to foreigners.
>>2745282
I have heard that English teachers are exploited at not paid what they are owed.
>>
>>2744332
>Anyone ever heard of a roundabout way to do this?
Investment visa. You will need to hire interpreters and invest in a Japanese business. With 4 million USD you should be able to live off of municipal bonds.
>>
>>2745388
twitch streamers fall into a weird category and can usually self-sponsor a work visa through an EoR. it's a different visa with different rules and isn't suitable for retirement. if they say they're on a business visa or something they're just like lying man.
>>
>>2745388
Twitch/YT "influencers" can often get a bypass if they promise to work with the tourism agency of japan to "promote" whatever topic of the month there is.

How are foreigners covered by Japanese medical insurance discriminated against?
