Going to Akihabara aka weeb Mecca.
>>
Have you seen "Bocchi the Rock"? Then why not go to Shimokitazawa? You could also go to Kanazawa Hakkei.
Have you seen "Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!"? Then go to Toyohashi!
Visiting the locations where anime was filmed has a special effect on you. It's similar to the effect of going to the filming locations of movies, but the pictures in anime have many differences from the real scenery, and these differences have a strange effect on your memory. The memory becomes a little more vivid and the background music is added. Also, the impression tends to be strengthened because the attention is drawn to the similarities rather than the differences.
Before traveling to Japan, it's a good idea to watch anime set in the places you're visiting. For example, if you're visiting Kyoto, watching KyoAni's anime will give you the chance to see the scenery in the anime unexpectedly.

Any recommendations for a reverse pilgrimage? Me:
>Shinamani Kaido, Matsuyama
>Yakushima Island, Kagoshima, Fukuoka
>Hiroshima, Nara, Kyoto, Tokyo
>Tsuyama

I really loved Enoshima. Shimokitazawa was great too. Shiwakawago for the Higurashi pilgrimage. Akihabara of course. Hakone for Evangelion. Can't remember which other ones I've done.

In Tokyo,
Tsukudajima: "March Comes in Like a Lion". You can walk along the streets that often appear in the anime. Unfortunately, the area near the Shogi-Kaikan was heavily remodeled for the Tokyo Olympics. Tsukudajima is also the setting for "Edomae Elf".
Shinjuku: "Your Name", "Weathering with You". You are likely to encounter anime scenery in various places around Shinjuku.
Seiseki Sakuragaoka: Ghibli movies. The atmosphere of "Whisper of the Heart" is still there. It is also the setting for many other anime, so you are likely to encounter scenery that you have seen before.

In Kyoto,
Shimogamo Shrine: "Eccentric Family". If you visit Kyoto, I highly recommend watching the "Eccentric Family" series. You will see scenery from the anime all over Kyoto.
Kyoto University: "The Tatami Galaxy". There are cheap apartments for university students lined up on the north side of Kyoto University. You can also get a glimpse of the eccentric culture of Kyoto University students there.
Ichijoji: "K-On!". The anime is actually set north of Kyoto University, between Mototanaka and Shugakuin stations. The school itself is in Shiga (35.2034,136.2327).

Uji: "Sound! Euphonium". The scenery is just as seen in the anime. In fact, KyoAni's headquarters is near Uji. And the place where the tragic accident happened is also there.

Sapporo: "Golden Kamuy". Golden Kamuy is an anime that is perfect for Hokkaido tourism. The whole of Hokkaido is the setting for Golden Kamuy.
Obihiro: "Silver Spoon". The agricultural high school where the anime is set is located on the south side of the city. Obihiro Station is briefly shown in the latest episode of "Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II". Obihiro is also known as a famous sweets producing area.
Hirosaki: "Flying Witch". Hirosaki Castle is currently undergoing repairs to its stone walls, and the castle tower of Hirosaki Castle has been moved slightly.
Nikaho: "Look Back". It's a rural area. It's where the author was born, and some of the scenery in the "Chainsaw Man" manga appears. The art university (38.2187,140.3447) is located far away.
Lake Suwa: "Your Name". It's also the setting for "The Elusive Samurai". Suwa Shrine is the model for Miyamizu Shrine, and it's a shrine with such a long history that people have forgotten what kind of god was enshrined there. All the secrets of the shrine were lost when the priest's family was wiped out.

Kamakura: "Elfen Lied". For example, if you get off at Gokurakuji Station on the Eno-den Railway in April when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, you'll be hit with a sense of déjà vu.
Kamakura has been the setting for various anime. For example, Enoshima, which is located west of Kamakura and can be reached by riding the Enoden Railway, appeared as part of an episode in "Bocchi the Rock" and "My Dress-Up Darling". Kamakura is also the location of "The Elusive Samurai". The protagonist is decapitated near Enoshima, according to history. I highly recommend taking the Enoden Railway.

Gifu: "Shoshimin Series". Gifu has been the setting for several recent anime.
Hida Takayama: "Hyoka". Takayama is also a popular tourist destination.
Nishinomiya: "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". You should know all the routes from Kohyoen Station (34.7610,135.3299).
Onomichi: "Pon no Michi", "Kamichu!". One of the most popular anime towns.
Fukuoka: "Sketchbook - full color's". The ruined tower at the beginning is in nearby Shime (33.5904,130.4863). Most of the anime is set in Dazaifu, and the high school (33.5028,130.5416) is quite far from the station. The mountain (33.5305,130.5219) in the fourth episode of the anime is a great place for hiking. Although it doesn't appear in the anime, Dazaifu has a large shrine and museum that are recommended to visit.

Karatsu: "Zombie Land Saga". A town with a beautiful beach. The mansion where the story takes place is a little far from the city (33.4708,129.9538). Karatsu is also the setting for "Yuri on Ice".

Takachiho: "Oshi no Ko". A small town deep in the mountains. It has a long history and is also the setting for myths. The hospital that appears in the anime does not exist in real life.

unless they went somewhere else in later volumes that I haven't read Chiba isn't the place to be for Yuru Camp.
For any Yorimoi fans, the icebreaker ship featured in the show is docked in Chiba. The older version, "Shirase 5002" is a museum now I think. The newer "Shirase 5003", which is the actual one in the show, also docks there when it's not in voyage.

I've been to Cuenca (Sora no Woto) and Kappabashi (Sarazanmai), whole Asakusa is also pretty relevant to Sarazanmai.
