It's still a significant outlay in gas expenses.
If you're really bold and likeable you could try hitchhiking the highway.

The Maine coast is surprisingly easy to vagabond in summer, because vanlife bums are few and therefore nobody's looking out for them. I never knew where I was spending the night beforehand, so it felt like an exploratory adventure.

honestly not sure I can trust anyone on 4chan. You guys might be serial killers for all I know or homosexual rapists, but I do wish to go hiking and exploring with another person. We dont have to be friends or converse with eachother. But occasionally inform one another on time tables, routes, when heading back to hotel etc.

Already gave this out before on /trv/ but the other OP answered too late for me to act on and I was already in Scotland.

Its a really nice route that not many know of in the Highlands and only accessible by car with one street. Meaning once you start the hike you have committed yourselves to 11 miles = 17 km.
Amazing scenery and not typical tourist hike/attraction.
