Should I move here? I'm in a unique situation where I can choose where I want to live without fear of job or housing. I have disposable income and don't need to be attached to an office. I heard Seattle became a shithole in the past 20-30 years and governor Inslee is destroying the state. I see crime go completely ignored. But plenty of people live and work here and it seems worthwhile. Should I live here? What are the pros, cons, FAQs, and misconceptions? Can you see Mount Rainier from the city or do you need to be in Tacoma or further east?>inb4 rain
>>2746308Been stuck in the area for 22 years. I can confirm that the Seattle metro is a shithole. Mind you, it's always been a shithole, but the griminess of the area was easier hide under the rug decades ago back when the population was smaller. But now the trash is overflowing and it's all out of in the open. >But plenty of people live and work here and it seems worthwhile. There are jobs here, but unless you work in tech, they're jobs with wages that are hard to live on and that's true even for professional white collar jobs. I work in finance and the salaries here for my industry are fucking ass. But then again the Seattle metro area doesn't have a real financial hub unlike cities such as San Francisco and LA.A big issue in the area is housing. The Pacific Northwest is a region of the country for people who hate other people; NIMBYs reign supreme in the area and they do everything they can to obstruct the development of new housing in the region. It means that housing is scarce and expensive. I don't know where you're coming from, but an apartment typically ranges from $1500 to $2000 a month in a decent neighborhood. However, you can get a studio with less than 500 square footage in a crime ridden area crawling with junkies for $1000 a month.
>>2746308Sounds like you ran into some money and you have the choice to live anywhere and not work. That being said, why the fuck is Seattle even on your list of places to live? Seattle is podunk backwater. Unless you're really into the outdoors, there's not a whole lot to do in the metro area. The nightlife is shit and the entertainment options limited. > Can you see Mount Rainier from the cityYes you can easily see Mt Rainier if you face South of the city.
>>2746308Knew a girl from there up until fairly recently. She hated that place with a passion but was stuck there. Most of what the other anons have said what she said plus just the BS of living in WA as a whole. Shame really since I have wanted to live somewhere in the Pacific NW for basically all of my adult life.
>>2746308>can choose where I want to live>lemme choose something retardedLive in Coronado San Diego then you dumbass>However, you can get a studio with less than 500 square footage in a crime ridden area crawling with junkies for $1000 a month.False! I live in a “mid” area with the occasional junky frozen on the sidewalk for *drumroll* $820 dollars. The weather only fluctuates between 35-50 degrees F and it’s either overcast or cloudy with periodic light rain. It’s pretty chill. Never needed more than a fleece or hoodie. >unique situation where I can choose where I want to live without fear of job or housing.Go fuck yourself. And fuck everyone who has a “unique situation.” Fuck you all
>>2746337As a fellow PNW-anon (tho not Seattle) this anon is correct. As much as I would love to be able to say you SHOULD move anywhere in the region since the surrounding nature is god-tier and the cities have the potential to be the same, reality is they are not, they suck, and there is no way to justify moving to them if you're not from there
Seattle is literally one of the worst shit holes in North America with the worst people in the country. If you want to come to a miserable, dirty, horrible place with a heroin camp on every corner and the most backwards ass fucked up shitbags in existence. Where everything is 3 times the fucking price of everywhere else in the state. Then by all means, go to that god forsaken no good evil shit hole. You'll suicide or be changed forever for the worse within 12 months.
>>2746508>False! I live in a “mid” area with the occasional junky frozen on the sidewalk for *drumroll* $820 dollars. That's really surprising to me, my college apartment 20 years ago started at $795... why the fuck you would live in that miserable shit hole is beyond me. There was a time Seattle was one of the most unique and beautiful cities in the world. But now, only nuclear bombs will save that God forsaken nightmare. Seattle is such a miserable festering shit hole. I had to go there for work a few years ago and got a penthouse suite on the 45th floor of the best hotels in town. Even from up there at the pinnacle city, it looked like a miserable shit hole. Looking into the windows of other millionaires in these fucking goddamned rat boxes way up in the sky. Would never trade my farm in the middle of nowhere for that no good soul killing evil nightmare. >t. born and raised Seattlite
>>2746512Also there's no White people left in Seattle. When I drive around up there once every few years, it's literally all mystery meat and utterly retarded tech jeets who think they've paid it paying 2 times the price of everywhere else to live in a goddamn poo nigger rat nest of other retarded jeets. Literally one of the most evil and soul killing places in the Western civilization. You will kill yourself or grow to despise other human beings if you're there for an extended period of time.
Hmmm ok I'll look into less. I like Colorado, and I basically just want a place that looks like the best of Colorado but is on the water. I don't mind "the Seattle freeze" since I spend all my time alone anyway. I was also looking at metro DC (Virginia side), but the traffic is the worst in the country and the nature is all just endless trees. I like the stark contrast with mountains, deserts, plains, forests, snow. Just no water... I'd like to hike Mt Rainier soon. I think the Washington peninsula near Port Angeles would be nice with Mt Olympus... maybe I'll skip the whole lot of it...
>>2746557Nobody knows what the fuck you mean by “the best of Colorado”.
>>2746557Idaho, you chump
>>2746557Probably unpopular opinion but I genuinely think Portland/Oregon offers what you're looking for better than Washington. And Portland is a more bare-able city to live in than Seattle
>>2746604WA native and I agree. Seattle has better job prospects, but Portland is better overall. Better culture and history, city is layed out better. Bum problem doesn't seem quite as bad in Portland if you stay out of downtown.
>>2746604>>2746618Portland is better overall. It's a dump like any PNW city, but it's a league above Seattle in terms of quality of life.
>>2746508>Go fuck yourself. And fuck everyone who has a “unique situation.” Fuck you allThis desu. Especially if you're younger than 30. Seriously go fuck yourself off the side of a bridge
>>2746508>Go fuck yourself. And fuck everyone who has a “unique situation.” Fuck you all>>2746625>This desu. Especially if you're younger than 30. Seriously go fuck yourself off the side of a bridgeactive duty US military + post-9/11 GI bill + straight A student + current college student. I will likely get accepted to any public university of my choosing and I'll get paid cost-of-living adjustments along with other stipends. i dont need to work, just say "i'm in school" and get direct deposit on the 1st of the month. Seattle will get over $2k a month. if you want a unique situation, stop complaining and enlist, lil bro. I was between some schools in Colorado, Virginia, maybe New York state somewhere (if i could get into Cornell), maybe Seattle, idk. Portland doesn't have great universities, but i have a car, so Eugene or Corvallis wouldn't be bad.
>>2746627Rats. Ya got us.
>>2746627>maybe New York state somewhere (if i could get into Cornell)Upstate NY is criminally underrated. The Finger Lakes region around Ithaca is gorgeous with a lot of good hiking and camping spots. If you're a foodie, the college town itself has a surprisingly good amount of fine dining spots.
Are there any places on the Washington Coast outside Seattle worth moving for a person who doesn't need to worry about job location?I've visited the area a few times and found quieter vibes in places like Anacortes and Port Townsend. But I wondered if these places are actually chill without the woke insanity/druggie crap or if they just hide it well. And what about places within an hour of Seattle proper? Edmonds, Whidbey Island, Kirkland?
>>2746688Go to fuckin Coronado in San Diego what is your fixation on silent hill incarnate?
>>2746688>But I wondered if these places are actually chill without the woke insanity/druggie crap or if they just hide it well. They hide it well. The region is politically red outside of the I-5 corridor, but if there's one thing more persistent than the overcast and rain, it is the casual substance abuse. >>2746695ThisSeriously. If you have the opportunity to go anywhere, try getting into UC San Diego. The beach is right there and mountains are just a couple of hours away. You get better quality of life for the same price as Seattle.
>>2746688East Side (Kirkland, Bellevue) is perfectly fine, just boring suburbs full of Indians and the like. You have the benefit of being able to easily visit Seattle but say "that's enough" and leave without the crime following you. Further out is comfy but then you're even further from amenities. Chill inside most of the winter, though it's not like it's hostile low temps and snow, and gorgeous summers outside when it's not smoky. But fuck off, we're full.
>>2746688this isnt me (GIbillfag). I've never been to the area at all.
>>2746963Bellevue baller here, aka “Yung Medina.” We up
>>2747313is Medina a poo name?
>>2747423Are you retarded?
>>2747313I imagine it must be insanely comfy to be actually rich in the nice neighborhoods outside Seattle. You can jump on a yacht any time or fuck off to San Juan islands for a long weekend. Cruise summer days away on Lake Washington and wave to Bezos and Bill Gates' house guards. That house over there with the t-rex skeleton in it is fucking insane.Peak life seems like the ability to afford the $5-10m estates there without having to work too hard so you can enjoy the area's natural beauty.
I'd say just give it a year to try it and have a back out plan. Always loved the PNW and tried it for 2 years, I'll just echo all the other anons: nature is amazing but cities are cold in a way they shouldn't be. Winter is rough for me as well, I feel lethargic and unmotivated without heavy doses of vitamin D.I'd recommend not living in Seattle unless you want>heckin hustle and bustleConcerts and bars can be fun, but are pricier than a lot of other places, actually just anything with alcohol. If you prefer the nature side, you could check out the Olympic Peninsula. People are colder and the nature is nicer.
>>2747923Not really. Go 60 minutes any direction of Seattle and suddenly it's one of the nicest places in the world. But the rich people in Seattle literally live in shitty boxes on top of each other. Its one of the stupidest existences I've ever seen.My wife was driving me through the kike neighborhood which is one of the secret neighborhoods in Seattle where there's miraculously no trash, crime or heroin camps because that's where the filthy kikes lives. Still was just a bunch of shit boxes on top each other that each costs millions and millions of dollars. Plus you have to live around the absolute most faggoty fucking filth parasites in existence. I would never give up my farm in the middle of nowhere. Although hilariously Bill Gates is one of my neighbors now and all the Tesla driving no good faggot cocksucking filth has White flighted out of that no good rat nest shit hole and are winding up over here near me in God's country. Some of these White niggers need to be beheaded and made an example of. The filth from King County are literally the lowest form of life.
>>2748122>heckin hustle and bustleYou sound like a small town kid and Seattle is the first big city you've been too, because there is little to no hustle and bustle in Seattle. Trying to get people in the PNW to do anything productive with their lives and their time is like pulling teeth. Time in general tends to be a foreign and alien concept to people in the region. You only see the hustle when people are fighting traffic to get home so they can stare at the wall and watch paint dry. >Concerts and bars can be fun, but are pricier than a lot of other placesBarely any shows and concerts in downtown or the surrounding area. At one point the city had a lively music scene, but it's more or less dead as all the couch surfing musicians have been priced out by all the tech grifters. Most of the theaters and concert halls are used for business conferences and literal grade school theater productions. The bars aren't even worth it given the shit food scene and the overall flaccid night life.
>>2748261There’s no hustle and bustle here because junkies with their pants around their ankles who smell like literal shit are on every street corner, bus stop, or anywhere where there’s no lighting swaying and twitching like last of us zombies in dormant mode. Some 29 year old dude got shot and killed for absolutely no reason a few blocks from where I’m at by a tweaker with a gun.Anyone attractive women with pink pussies and rich dudes socialize in what is essentially speak easy locations outside the city center so no poors and junkies can stumble into them
Do not believe people when they act like they aren't part of the problemAnyone not from the PNW will tell you that it is 100% of the population that is the problemBut you have some natives in the PNW in denial of this, and they think they are normal. They are not. They are also shit.
>>2746562He means the san juan mountain range Aka the swiss alps of the U.S.
>>2748308>San JuansThe conifer dieoffs and burn scars are very saddening to see. Entire mountain ranges that were once stately forests are now wastelands of dead trunks. There are still a few good unspoiled parts of the range, but most of it is at least halfway ruined. It'll take a few decades for reforestation to make the San Juans beautiful again.
>>2748261>You sound like a small town kid and Seattle is the first big city you've been too, because there is little to no hustle and bustle in Seattle.Calm down gaybo. It's an old meme.Yes, the general consensus is that autistic tech people and their unholy "tech crowd" followings ruin social scenes. The food scene is abysmal and improves the further away you get. There are some hidden gems and they aren't that hidden. Basically a social Catch-22 where you can force people outside once in a blue moon, but the people most likely to go out are those types, but you don't even want to hang out with the other people because they're only slightly better than the poly anemones and "radfems" (XY) so you realize you're better off alone and everyone worth hanging out is either eyeing the exit or in the mountains with family. >>2748304This. I'm starting to believe the land is cursed or some shit, because there's no reason for this place to suck, especially Portland. Place could be the outdoor mecca of the west coast if it wasn't mismanaged to shit, though I guess that's the theme of the west coast.
>>2746688whidbey island is out of your price range. it's like mercer island - a 1%er enclaveand "within an hour of the seattle proper" is an impossible metric. it can take an hour to just cross the bridges to bellevue on a good daythere's a lot of small towns on the coasts but a lot of them are economically depressed areas and have drug and poverty issues. the people are a mixture of batshit old-school hippies and right wingers - if you think politics matter you won't fit in well in those areasits beautiful on the peninsula though
>>2748304All born and raised Seattlites got the fuck out. The only people still there are mystery meat owned by the kikes in that town and the worst most shit bag fucking faggot transplant White scumfucks who think Seattle is still world class and some faggot fantasy like Frasier. Real people from Seattle are either too embarrassed to admit it or got the fuck out long ago. But man, in the 2000s, every backwards scum fuck in the universe came to Seattle and drove it into the depths of shit unfathomable. Fucking the lowest forms of life from California, Florida, every scum shit hole came here and they're the reason along with our world class SAD weather that Seattle should burn in a nuclear hellfire.
>>2748401All of the nice places in Washington now require a million dollars to even start the conversation. I bought my farm at the beginning of the cannabis boom back when you could buy huge awesome acres and acres of land for nothing. Now everywhere is fucked in the State because of cannabis, all the backwaters in the state are now a mil+. My fucking farm out in the middle of nowhere has 7x'ed in value from all the White cocksucking idiots fleeing King County. I guess thanks for making me a land baron? But I would preferred it if all the faggots stayed in their faggot containment zone.
>>2748315Don't be sad about forest fires. They are life, just not the kind of life your pussy ass thinks about. t. wildland firefighter
>>2748409>>2748411Seattle infiltrator reporting.I feel like I got spawned into silent hill or Ravenholm from half-life 2. I heard a fent addict shrieking for an hour straight a few blocks away, probably withdrawing, last night.I take the one line back home from work and I see at least one set of fenties swaying and tweaking like dormant zombies in the last of us around Jackson It’s an interesting feel. I just gotta figure out where the fuckin goth girls hang out. I’d take a fat one as long as she dolled herself up excessively and had pink holes. This place is very fascinating to me. I feel like I’m among the ruins of times past. Only the sudden and jarring naïveté of the tech dorks and Asians remind me that there’s “life” here. The mist and overcast skies envelop me. In my pocket, I toggle my pepper spray from closed to open as I walk past uncertain individuals.Fin.
So what is Seattleland like for rich people? There must be some redeeming value if Lake Washington is still surrounded by clean looking billionaire estates and Bezos/Gates still keep them as secondary residences. And if there's any good how rich do you need to be to get it?Is a 1%er income that can afford a $3m house in the enclaves of Bellevue or Whidbey island enough to enjoy the good life there? Is it based if you can afford a multimillion dollar house in Bellingham or Anacortes to fuck off on the ferries to the islands all the time?
>>2746618>>2746604I'm an oldfag, graduated college mid 00's and moved to Portland a few years before it blew up. Best years of my life were living in Portland 2006-2013, it was the most underrated city in America. Left for work and didn't go back until 2022...holy fuck it fell off a cliff. Made me profoundly sad to see how run down and homeless-infested it has become.
>>2748267visited seattle over the summer. weather was immaculate, i see why people want to live there. the city itself smelled like piss. there were crusty shit smeared zombies everywhere. i cant imagine spending triple median national rent to live there
>>2748830Bellevue is like that off-earth planet for rich people in the movie Elysium with Matt Damon.
>>2748841I live in a micro apartment. My rent is $820. Thankfully I have my own bathroom. The only thing it lacks is a stove/oven but I’ve become an air fry fanatic. You can make hard boiled eggs in an air fryer. The cooking utensil of gods
>>2748835Similar story for me. I graduated college in 2005 and moved to Portland late 2006. It was a dream. Everyone was young, and while some people were obnoxious or pretentious no one was mind-numbingly boring like everyone is these days. People were into things and had actual personalities, even if they weren't necessarily your personal cup of tea. And everyone wanted to fucking party. All thw time. Any night of the week. We could all afford to have part time service jobs and random gigs and get by. You could rent a cabin up by Mt. Hood or a house on the coast whenever you wanted to get some nature and take mushrooms. Lots of music venues and almost always a good show somewhere. If you were in your 20s and didn't give a fuck it was actual paradise. It wasn't until about 2013/14 that everything got too expensive and SJWs were making anyone with any sense miserable. They were always there of course, but they weren't so vocal or prominent. People were content to let each other be. Man what a time. Pretty easy to get laid too. It was a special time and place and anyone who got to be there was very fortunate. Worst coke though. Terrible. I've done better in bumfuck WV.
>>2748855I paid $610/mo for a reasonably nice place in SE in 07-08 and remember thinking that was expensive. It eventually got torn down but I remember checking prices about a decade later and it was over 3x what I paid with no improvements made. >easy to get laidIt really was. Almost all my body count was from my time in Portland. Being nice and making a girl laugh was literally all you had to do before 2013-14. I’m a fairly conservative guy and it was never an issue…bedded all kinds of ultra liberal girls. There’s no way in hell any chicks like that would allow a Republican to touch them these days lol
>>2748396>The food scene is abysmal and improves the further away you get. There are some hidden gems and they aren't that hidden. The only good stuff in the Seattle metro are Asian restaurants. Down south heading towards Auburn are good Mexican places. Beyond those two categories, everything else ranges from forgettable to shit. > but the people most likely to go out are those types, but you don't even want to hang out with the other people because they're only slightly better than the poly anemones and "radfems" (XY) so you realize you're better off alone and everyone worth hanging out is either eyeing the exit or in the mountains with family. Painfully fucking true. It's why I only hangout with a handful of people these days, most of them East Coast transplants like me. The locals are boring and dull. The tech workers are equally dull, but add dumb and stupid on top of that. And the frequent purity testing amongst the libshits is irritating. I'd rather watch a 30 minute video of a baboon and giraffe having sex, then to interact with any of the dipshits and retards who live in the area. >But man, in the 2000s, every backwards scum fuck in the universe came to Seattle and drove it into the depths of shit unfathomable.Seattle was a grimy shithole even back in the 80s. It's always been a violent and crime ridden frontier town that attracts scum and dirtbags from all over the country.
>>2748877Ok guys where are the fucking goth girls tho? I see them out and about sometimes. Where do they go?
>>2748396>Basically a social Catch-22 where you can force people outside once in a blue moon, but the people most likely to go out are those types, but you don't even want to hang out with the other peopleThis sounds identical to my experiences in San Jose. A town where no one went out except for the most self-centered socially promiscuous boring people on earth.
PNW is nice nature, SAD weather, and awful people.
>>2748877That's Tacoma. Get it right.
The sheer number of homeless junkies in Seattle/Portland basically proves Covid was all bullshit. These people should have obliterated years ago with immune systems destroyed by bad living and drugs. Yet somehow they persist after having had the coof multiple times.
