There are jobs here, but unless you work in tech, they're jobs with wages that are hard to live on and that's true even for professional white collar jobs. I work in finance and the salaries here for my industry are fucking ass. But then again the Seattle metro area doesn't have a real financial hub unlike cities such as San Francisco and LA.

A big issue in the area is housing. The Pacific Northwest is a region of the country for people who hate other people; NIMBYs reign supreme in the area and they do everything they can to obstruct the development of new housing in the region. It means that housing is scarce and expensive. I don't know where you're coming from, but an apartment typically ranges from $1500 to $2000 a month in a decent neighborhood. However, you can get a studio with less than 500 square footage in a crime ridden area crawling with junkies for $1000 a month.

That's really surprising to me, my college apartment 20 years ago started at $795... why the fuck you would live in that miserable shit hole is beyond me. Upstate NY is criminally underrated. The Finger Lakes region around Ithaca is gorgeous with a lot of good hiking and camping spots. If you're a foodie, the college town itself has a surprisingly good amount of fine dining spots.

East Side (Kirkland, Bellevue) is perfectly fine, just boring suburbs full of Indians and the like. You have the benefit of being able to easily visit Seattle but say "that's enough" and leave without the crime following you. Further out is comfy but then you're even further from amenities. I imagine it must be insanely comfy to be actually rich in the nice neighborhoods outside Seattle. You can jump on a yacht any time or fuck off to San Juan islands for a long weekend. Similar story for me. I graduated college in 2005 and moved to Portland late 2006. It was a dream. Everyone was young, and while some people were obnoxious or pretentious no one was mind-numbingly boring like everyone is these days. People were into things and had actual personalities, even if they weren't necessarily your personal cup of tea. And everyone wanted to fucking party. All thw time. Any night of the week. We could all afford to have part time service jobs and random gigs and get by. You could rent a cabin up by Mt. Hood or a house on the coast whenever you wanted to get some nature and take mushrooms. Lots of music venues and almost always a good show somewhere. If you were in your 20s and didn't give a fuck it was actual paradise. It wasn't until about 2013/14 that everything got too expensive and SJWs were making anyone with any sense miserable. They were always there of course, but they weren't so vocal or prominent. People were content to let each other be. Man what a time. Pretty easy to get laid too. It was a special time and place and anyone who got to be there was very fortunate.
