I just realized that Malaysia basically doesn't allow tourists to stay outside of hotels for more than a few days at a time. What countries with a 3mo tourist visa have cheap apartments that are easy to get through Facebook or just asking at the front office? Please share your experience renting nice apartments for a few months at a time. Anywhere in Europe?>use airbnb or negotiate with shitty hotelNot even remotely comparable at the price point. $600 in SEA should get you a penthouse suite. In my experience, Peru and Vietnam are easy. Thailand seems to want year long contracts. >3mo visa countries worth going to for Burgers:Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, India, Malaysia
I've heard cities like Kaohsiung in Taiwan have plenty of cheap apartments. In Malaysia I rented a large 11th floor suite for $21/night last year, nicest lodgings on my whole trip.
>>2746540thx. I'll try Southern Taiwan. Details on your Malaysia stay? did you have to check out every few days?
>>2746540Dude what the FUCK? Where? I got an Airbnb for 900 for a month and it's shit and smells bad in here. In KL.
>>2746556>>2746556not him but this is what pisses me off so much about Airbnb. it's NEVER a good value. basically US rental prices in every single country on earth which is asinine. customer support is full of pajeets who protect the host as much as possible. a nice apartment in Malaysia should be $500 at most
>>2746584they also can cancel on you at anytime like if some event is happening where daily rates go up they will just dump your reservation.I've never used airbnb I get a hotel then ask around or go around to find long term hell you can use google street view and see apartment rental listings on the street advertised outside condos
>>2746592that's my plan but does that work in firstie countries like Japan, SK, central Europe? I don't wanna fly from SEA to Japan and then just get fucked because nobody does that.
>>2746584God DAMN ITMy Airbnb is twice that and smells bad, the kitchen sink looks like it could fall through the counter top since the counter is literally so rotten, the couch stinks and is covered with horrific stains with a shitty blanket they used to try and cover it up, there's black mold all over the sealant between tiles in the bathroom. That one actually looks nice and is half the price. God I'm mad.
>>2746737Where are you in KL? Near Pasar Seni or Bukit Bintang? >>2746546The property I booked was the Executive Twin Suite at Greystone 99 Suites Hotel in Melaka. It is currently $14 a night on Agoda, been bookable at that price for weeks now. A few things were a little beat-up in the room, but otherwise I loved it.
>>2746454>$600 in SEA should get you a penthouse suite.you are decades out of date.
>>2746747>head to the bathroom to brush my teeth>that cockroach is backThat fat bitch loves to popup from time to time and mock me.Nearish to Bukit bintang. Don't want to be too specific if I'm stuck here for a while. I haven't decided yet to really complain and try to get out of this, but I'm increasingly thinking of doing so.
Croatia and Montenegro both have monthly Airbnb rentals on the coast for nice apartments in the $600-700 month range.
>>2746831can you avoid airbnb and rent directly with owner?
>>2746864You could for sure, but you'd have to find someone locally and pay up front. There's a risk that they take your money and screw you over. You'd have more options for places to rent if you went directly to the owner, but the risk would increase exponentially. Your best bet might be to stay in an Airbnb for a month and then look for a place to rent once you're settled in. https://www.expatincroatia.com/find-apartment-rent-croatia/
>>2746938are they that dishonest over there? I know I'm technically taking a risk and will likely never see a cent of the deposit but being kicked out for no reason is a new kind of jewry
>>2746951It's like renting anywhere. There are always scammers running rent scams. That's why it's better to rent through Airbnb for a while until you can find something reliable. You're much more likely to get scammed if you're desperate. I'd walk into a real estate place and ask for a recommendation. If you have a US credit card, you can always dispute a charge if someone tries to scam you.
>>2747004ok dok. what I did in SEA is rent a motorbike for a day and just run around but I'm a beta and have anxiety so I sounded desparate
>>2746831Montenegro seems nice. Anyone ever been?>>2746755600usd "only" gets a nice yuppie-class studio in most of SEA, still very nice though with the caveat that you're a local or know a local and are renting longterm. For short term (3mo) rentals you generally have to be willing to pay extra.
fucking tourists. don't steal local housing.
just...lmaojust walk into an apartment building you want to stay in, and ask the property manager if they have any monthly rentals for tourists jesus guys you make this shit so difficultyou should go in person anyways so you can take a look at the facilities and rooms to see if they are acceptable and not some thin wall tiny shoebox nightmare how is becoming increasingly common in lots of places >>2747066>implying local brownoids would be occupying the relatively luxury housing developed specifically to cater to foreign or wealthy tenants sush
>>2747083>just walk into an apartment building you want to stay in, and ask the property manager if they have any monthly rentals for touriststhis doesn't work for non shithole countries.
chat please help. being homeless abroad is hell
>>2746764That whole part of KL is overpriced AF, as it is tourist central. I didn't like it. Did you boink any African streetwalkers yet?
>>2747318Come on now, I've lived in nightly lodging for the past 2 1/2 months, it's been perfectly fine and comfy with lots of lovely rooms. Longest I've stayed at any property is 8 days. Unlike you bump-on-a-log expat bums, I like to move around and sample life in many different places. That's really the whole point of visiting foreign countries, to travel, y'know? Just found out about a kickass village deep in the mountains near the Thai border with van transport supposedly going there tomorrow afternoon. Might as well climb aboard with my bags and see what it's like.
>>2747041Croatia is more fun and the larger cities are nicer. I've never heard anyone say anything positive about Podgorica (which is where you'd fly into). There are some awesome smaller cities and towns on the coast of Croatia like Primosten where you can stay in a nice Airbnb condo on the water for $60/night. I've always wanted to rent a boat for like 2 weeks and cruise through the bay of Kotor in Montenegro though. You can rent a giant sailboat for like $150/day. You could offset the cost with a group.
>>2747349I prefer SEA because getting shanked by some asshurt south slav isn't my cup of tea
