I want to move to Los Angeles (I'm Irish) to pursue my career of working in film and the arts. Is there any effective way of doing this short of overstaying a tourist visa? I have a degree BA in anthropology and also experience working as an archaeologist. What are the chances I can get accepted on a permanent basis using these attributes? I also want to have the option of one day returning to Ireland briefly in case a relative gets sick or for a funeral or something before returning to the US which is why overstaying a tourist visa is not a great option for me, especially since it would require I work underhand or in fast food to earn a wage.

Tour best bet is learn some conversational Spanish, buy a ticket to Mexico, slap on some brown makeup and cross the border illegally.
You'll be given a free hotel room, food, a phone and cash!

That's not a serious answer

Get accepted to a PhD program. Also, enforcement of immigration laws is pretty weak these days.

What if I travel outside of the country and return? Is that guaranteed to clock me?

It's simple. All you have to do is be good enough for someone in Hollywood to want to hire you. Easy!

Are you gay? Are you Jewish?
If you aren't either of these things good luck getting into the LA film/entertainment industry.
Since you're Irish I'll assume you aren't Jewish but at least once drunkenly sucked off one of your mates so he having gay sex a few times and coming onto a superior to advance your career should be no problem for you.
>not a great option for me, especially since it would require I work underhand or in fast food
You'll be doing this anyway while you try to catch your big break in film along with 500000 other people.

It's really this. Do you have any experience? If for example you're a skilled operator of lighting and sound equipment and can get into a union you can probably network your way to a sponsorship job in the film industry but I'm gonna take a wild guess that with an anthropology degree (wtf were you thinking) you aren't that.

The film industry is about 2 years from going full AI anyway. They're going to fire 90 percent of the people in Hollywood.

Your best best ist o get fake papers in Haiti and then show up at the border as a "Haitian" (this might also work for Venezuelan) they will give you all kinds of support too, like food, rent EBT. It might siound weird but there are white haitians.

>LA
You need to be comfortable with potentially ending up homeless unironically. If you're the kind of person to grit your teeth and keep pushing forward then go for it, but you are not guaranteed a job in any country regardless of location. If you don't land a job in LA, you'll run out of money fast and lose your apartment.

Im from southern california

You dont want to live here. LA is massive shithole, its expensive, its disgusting and it will chew you up and spit you back out. You will find no sucess here. If you are serious about film making do indie stuff, get a degree in the uk, make a youtube channel and start a patreon, literally anything will give you better odds than moving here.

I promise you dont understand the word expensive if you think you can survive working some shit part time or odd jobs.

Putting all that aside, Hollyjew is dying. The opportunities that existed for the lower middle class of gentiles dont exist anymore.

Not to mention immigrating to the US as a european is actually insanely difficult

Leaf in the film industry here also interested in immigrating to the US, your only options are getting hired as an archaeologist in the USA (lol) or, if you’re an actor, getting recognized enough in your own country.
In short, your best bet of moving to the USA is moving to London and getting work there.

Good luck. Everyone else already in America and from abroad are doing the same. You will have to meet the right people, at the right place and time, and say the right things if you even get the right opportunity.

>What are the chances I can get accepted on a permanent basis using these attributes?
Immigration policies are about to radically change in America, it's hard for anyone to give you a solid answer on this. Immigration (and the government in general) are very fucking slow and incompetent, and it's an uphill battle throughout the whole process.

>especially since it would require I work underhand or in fast food to earn a wage.
Just going to be blunt. You are moving to one of the most densely populated and expensive cities in America, with above-average wealth inequality. With a BA in anthro, you will be working multiple kinds of these jobs just to barely afford food and rent. That's just how it is.

If you get accepted to a PhD program, your visa should let you travel home and apply for jobs in the US

Work in the industry where you are, build contacts and a resume that will get you job offers and opportunities in LA. Just showing up there with no contacts and no resume is not going to work at all, LA is full of people dreaming of "making movies" with no experience, the competition is fierce -- you want to have a leg up on those folks before going there.

Also, look into production that is leaving California -- the percentage of US film and television production happening in the state declines every year, in LA it is down to around 18% of US production. A lot of "runaway" production happens in Canada, in Atlanta, Florida, North Carolina, etc. And there will be less competition for entry jobs in those locations.

Good idea. I'm going to make youtube shorts in rural Donegal next to the sheep farm where I haven't had friends since six years old because I wore the wrong type of coat once. So true.

Are you looking for a job in the film industry? If so, take a job as a runner at a studio and work your way up. It’s a shit job but will give you a foot in the door to move up.
t. works in post

They don't allow white or Irish people in films anymore retard
