My mate and I are planning a boys road trip from Dallas, either to Miami or Chicago via New Orleans. Which would be better for someone who has only been to Cali and New York

New Orleans to Denver or Salt Lake City or Phoenix or Reno would be more enjoyable for me, but if you really want to see Chicago then that's up to you. Depends on whether you value the road trip and the scenery more or the destination more. New Orleans to Nashville to Chicago might be a bit prettier but also a bit of a detour.
