Tell me about Myanmar. I saw some shit about it on Instagram the other day and, at least as far as Yangon (FKA Rangoon) is concerned, it looks fairly modern and developed. However, I've never seen or heard this country being discussed anywhere, I've never met anyone that's from there or been there, and this time last week I couldn't even tell you where it was on a map.
war
I was open for a very brief period a few years ago, everyone I met who went said it was amazing. I planned on going but then the junta made a come back. Its an active war zone, you'd be an idiot to even try and go. Foreigners are regularly arrested on suspicion of espionage and helping rebels.
>>2749457I was there for a month recently, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.In short, it's a beautiful country, but unfortunately, with the ongoing war, it’s not worth visiting. You can only travel to a few places, and there isn’t much to do apart from visiting temples. Granted, the temples are cool, but after the 69th temple, it does get booring. The food is the worst I’ve ever eaten, and there are no proper hospitals so if something happens to you, you’re dead. You’ll either meet the nicest people on the planet or the absolute worst (god scammed 3 times). Hotels are on the more expensive side, and foreigners are only allowed to stay in specific ones. These hotels are few in number and only available in larger towns. Without a pricey private taxi, it’s nearly impossible to get to smaller towns to which you are technically allowed to go but it is still trouble. There isn’t much nature to explore or hiking to do because of landmines, UXOs, and apparently bandits. The only exception is around Inle Lake, but when I visited, the area was destroyed by flooding. Don’t expect electricity either at most, you’ll get 12 hours a day, even in the more expensive hotels. I also noticed and was warned about glowies in bars, hotels and on the streets, so be cautious about what you say and avoid discussing politics with anyone.Yangon wasn’t great. The traffic is terrible, the smell is bad, and the city feels like a smaller version of an Indian city. I didn’t enjoy it.The country is probably the last unexplored gem in Asia, and when the war ends, it’s going to become a tourist haven. However, with over 140 ethnic groups, many of whom don’t get along, even after the junta is overthrown, there’s likely to be another conflict. On a different note, the women there are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen in Asia. I didn’t coom, which I regret now because I had a few good chances.
>>2749491>The food is the worst I’ve ever eatenI love Chinese food and I love Indian food so I've always had this idea in my mind that the countries between China and India must have some really awesome fusion-like cuisine, sad to hear that isn't the case. All of that sounds like a whole heap of trouble. Too bad, because the temples really do look spectacular, but I completely understand what you mean about them eventually getting boring. I guess I'll wait it out until the war ends and try to get a trip in before it gets flooded by other travelers.

>>2749491Can you drive from Yangon to Naypyidaw? Thinking about hiring a car to do the journey but unsure if it's feasible/worth it. Captcha: TAXIS
