Anyone worked in cruise ships? I'm a neet trying to land a job in one and maybe visit a couple countries for free.I know working hours are fucked and it doesn't pay much to clean rooms and shitters but whatever.
You're competing with workers from the Philippines who will do backbreaking work for next to nothing. If you want a cruise job it's probably going to be in entertainment, excursions or a mid level position.
>>2749601The company is looking for European workers, or at least with a EU work permit.I have no qualifications so it would have to be the shitty jobs but then again if it's just for a couple months it beats being a neet.
>>2749601It doesn't take a genius to realize just have a valuable skill or be valuable in general. And regionally holding citizenships help when protectionism works in your favor
>>2749584I knew a chick who did this. She enjoyed it for a while. Afterwards she switched to working & living at a hiking lodge in the New England mountains. If you have anti-social tendencies or catch colds easily, I would not recommend working on a cruise ship. >>2749601Come on now, if a 100 pound Filipina can do the job, it's not even close to backbreaking for a big stronk white man. Even if you're making $10/hour it stacks up quickly in the bank because you have very few living expenses.
>>2749734Yeah, but you live in a closet.
>>2749734>anti-social tendenciesI mean I'm definitely not a social flower but maybe it would be a good opportunity to open up.As for colds maybe once a year but I didn't take the china vax.
Get into maritime? Depends on your cunt but eg UK it's very easy to get into a merchant navy cadetship which might possibly have you working on cruises right away or definitely leave that option open for future
>>2749610People often work on cruise ships on working holiday visas.
>>2749584I met a guy about a year ago in Arizona who worked for cruise ships. He said it’s fucking terrible except for the ability to see lots of the world for free. Pay is shit, hours are shit, jobs are shit, lots of entitled and rude cruisers.
Lmao guys I got the job, will be working on a cruise soon.>>2750251Yeah, they told me it's going to be long hours and will also need to share the sleeping quarters but whatever, I'll have no expenses whatsoever since bed and food is included so I still should be able to save some money, plus the the weeks off every other month will be nice.
>>2749850do maritime colleges put you to work immediately, how come? I though you had to do courses for however many years it is, in europe it is usually 3-4.
>>2750876If you had to do 3 to 4 years, you might as well be a yeoman in the US Navy, and then get into the merchant marines and make six figures.
>>2750877i don't know, I haven't done it but I looked into it and yeah, that's how long it takes. sure they start you on some ships for a semester in the 2nd or 3rd year, but I think you're losing a lot of time with the entire ordeal.
>>2750882Yeah, I'm completely ignorant about it all. I do find it fascinating though.
>>2749584same hereI have experience in hotel front desk, can that land me a job inside a ship?
>>2750997Will job at a hotel be useful for a job in a floating hotel? It'll put you in front of most people straight out of uni looking to sail the world.Lots of cruise lines want Western staff for customer focused roles.
>>2751014I live in Europe and some cruise ships dock in my city but we don't have a local companies, how can I get into one of those?and other questions I have is how is the salary? life on board? is the front desk job as easy or harder than on land?
>>2751084If it's an embarkation port, they'll have some sort of local office, other than that you'll have to look for the recruitment agencies that do hiring for cruise ships.
