Going to Iguaçu falls at the end of March, by plane. I want to get back to Rio by bus after that. How much time should I spend around Puerto/Foz de Iguaçu and what are the cool spots to stop by in the South of Brazil? Any recommandations on what to do/see?
>>2750522>e. I want to get back to Rio by bus after that. Why? Long journey. 3 full days in Foz is enough. 1 for argentinian side, one for brazilian and bird park and another for shitty Ciudad del este, the dam and triple border monument.... 4 is more comfortable. From Foz you would be heading north to Rio. Only one state inbetween, São Paulo, at southeastern region (like Rio). Perhaps go a bit southeast to Florianopolis, nice city. Curitiba, Parana's capital is nice big city by brazilian standards, liveable, but not really touristic. Ilhabela is nice but a bit of a detour. I'd just head to either Paraty, nice colonial town in Rio de Janeiro's state seaside or to Angra dos Reis (Ilha Grande). Paraty has both the town itself and the nature (the "fjord", some islands) and Ilha Grande and sorroundings is just nature but beautiful, more than 200 islands, 1000 beaches.
>>2750562Thank you for your reply. I know it's a long journey, it's just that I'll already take 3 planes just to get to Iguaçu and I don't want to spend the entire trip going to an airport and wait here.So far, the itinerary is:>Day 1 to 4: Iguaçu (Brazilian/Argentinian parks, the dam with Paraguay)>Day 5 to 8: ???>Day 9 to 11: Paraty and Ilha Grande>Day 12 to 14 : Rio de JaneiroThe ideal thing would be to split the coach journey in two, doing something like days 5/6 Curitiba and days 7/8 Sao Paulo, for instance. What do you think about Ilha do Mel in Parana? Thought about doing the train from Curitiba to Morretes and head there.
>>27505781/? I like your itinerary. I mean, you could stay more in either Ilha Grande + Paraty or Rio. But 3 days is enough time to see most of the nice stuff. I'd take one day of Igazu and put somewhere else though. Unless you plan to rest a bit before the bus trip or are arriving in the afternoon/at night. I've stayed 3 full days in Iguazu, did all that, and had time to chill by the hotel's pool and also to go to 1-2 bars during my time there. Did not feel I've rushed through things. Don't have a personal stance on Ilha do Mel. Its a place most visited by people from Curitiba and Parana state as a whole. Heard mixed opinions about it. I guess those from Parana who can afford it just go to one of Santa Catarina's state beaches. Haven't been to Morretes as well but heard it is a nice little place. My cousin liked it but he did a motorbike trip afair. For a day as well unless chilling. Curitiba is as good as any big city in Brazil can be but, as I've said, not big on tourism. Enough for 2 days? Sure. But I'd go there if I was interested in, idk, brazilian urban living. Or considering the Morretes plan. It does fit your itinerary. São Paulo has enough stuff for 3 days. If you're into art, fine dining (or average but diverse), chaotic metro areas it is a good place (I live here). As any huge city it has its pros and cons. I'd say it is good but also skippable in a first brazilian trip. But since you're the first person I see visiting fucking Morretes in a brazilian trip it might suit you (by contrast, obviously).I mean, it's up to you. Personally I'd avoid Ilha do Mel since you would come from Iguazu (nature) and then visit Ilha Grande (also nature and much better than Mel) and then Rio. I think the few days in Curitiba with Morretes plus São Paulo, that is well connected with all those cities, would be best in THAT scenario. Easier to book the trips so you won't be spending much more than 6 hours on buses each way. And you would have a taste of São Paulo...
>>27508572/2 either hating it or liking it, without spending too much time here. In your scenario I would:1-arrive at Foz2-4 Foz, leaving at forth day to Curitiba5 Curitiba - Morretes daytrip6 Curitiba leaving at late afternoon to SP7 - 8 São Paulo leaving to Paraty at 8th night9-11 - Paraty and Ilha Grande, leaving to Rio at 11th11-14 RioBut my real personal stance would be to avoid Curitiba + Morretes and São Paulo and spend more time in both Rio and Angra. You would miss the country side vibes though. So if you're adamant on that would stick to the previous one. Just because I think it's rushed for my taste. But doable. Or choose either Curitiba + Morretes or São Paulo.
>>2750858Thanks man, that's valuable info. I went to the state of Amapà before but not very far from the French border and I assume it's completely different than the rest of Brazil so yeah, that would be a first for me.One question if you don't mind: how far in advance should I book the bus tickets to go from Iguaçu to my destination? Is it a thing to worry about or can I just head to the bus station and take one without hassle?Morretes isn't that much a point of interest to me, it's more about the train ride which looks kino. I don't mind big cities but too much of them bores me quickly so I would rather not stay in Curitiba knowing I'll head to Rio after that (or Sao Paulo).
>>2750866I guess depends where you're heading to. There must be plenty of buses to Curitiba from Foz so you could just buy them at the counter. But to a farther destination, where you'd probably need to change buses, I guess it's best to book at least 2 weeks before the trip. If you try to book, let's say, Foz to Paraty at the counter you might get only Foz - Curitiba - São Paulo - Paraty instead of Foz - São Paulo?São Jose dos Campos - Paraty. Even longer trip.https://www.clickbus.com.br/ is good to get an idea of timetables and itineraries.
https://brasilbybus.com/enThis is the site you want to use as a foreigner to book bus tickets, all the others will need a Brazilian ID number for a simple purchase, same thing for buying a SIM card or getting a transit card in Sao Paulo. Please tell the manager of Brazil that if there weren't so many other things I liked about this country I would not put up with this retarded bullshit and never return.
>>2750522If this is once in a lifetime maybe consider Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia its the coolest place and pretty close to this its an entire flight of course. Sorry for the n00bish comment just like posting on 4chan lol
for the falls half a day in the Brazilian side and 1 day on the Argentinian side is enough. dunno if any of the other shit around there is worth it.
>>2750906You can't use your passport number as your ID number like you do as a foreigner in every country that requires ID verification?
>>2751031>>2750562I'm gonna second what these anons are saying.Five days seems too much. Both Puerto Iguazú and Foz do Iguaçu are a small town / small city (respectively) with not much to do other than seeing the Falls themselves.I would do one day on the Brazilian side of the Falls, Brazilian side takes less time to see (it's just one really beautiful scenic view), but you've got a cool Bird Sanctuary there that is a must if you are there. Then do one day on the Argentine side, see the Falls, the Argentine side is bigger with walkways that get deep inside the falls so it's gonna take you a whole day. Bring appropiate clothing you are gonna get wet. Then for a third day you can do some tour of the jungle, or I guess you could cross to Paraguay to see Ciudad del Este but I don't know why you care about CdE there's nothing interesting there other than market stalls selling cheap contraband and counterfeit stuff. That's about all there is to do around there, I wouldn't spend give days.
>>2751072>give days*five days
>>2751063>You can't use your passport number as your ID number like you do as a foreigner in every country that requires ID verification? For a SIM card? Technically it's possible, but the people at the official phone stores are lazy pieces of shit and won't help you and most of the little convenience shop places either don't know it's possible or don't know how. The pharmacy at the Rio airport can do it and there's a convenience kiosk in the mall by Copacabana that can do it, I think it might be possible to buy the TIM brand card and do it all yourself, but I haven't tried. I would just use an e-SIM if you don't need a local number for anything
>>2750522One day for the Falls and birds' sanctuary, one day for Itaipu Dam and maybe one day for a visit to Ciudad del Este for anthropologic reasons.>>2750866>Amapá Why did you do this for yourself?
>>2751428>Why did you do this for yourself?Because I live in Guiana and I wanted to be able to brag about driving from France to Brazil. Indeed, it wasn't an interesting trip at all.>>2751072>Five days seems too much. Thanks man but you're the one talking about five days. I said four in the OP simply because I arrive in the afternoon of the first day and don't think I'll do anything interesting that day. That leaves days 2 and 3 to enjoy the falls, day 4 to see that damned dam and take a bus to somewhere else in the evening.>>2750955Will save that for another trip, but it looks spectacular indeed
>>2750562No point in going to ciudad del este unless you wanna buy stuffI’d recommend spending more time on the Argentine side, it’s a lot bigger and more to see, you gotta do it in 2 days if don’t want to rush
