Anonymous 01/15/25(Wed)02:28:31 No. 2750695 I found this list of college towns in New York State>West Point, NY (Home of the famous military academy, go only if you're interested in US military history) >Binghamton (Home of Binghamton University, it's a smaller city in the middle of a pretty rural area) >Amherst, NY (Has the biggest of University at Buffalo, it's just north of the city so its a big suburb, does have a lot of interesting restaurants though) >Alfred, NY (Home to Alfred State and Alfred U, in Allegheny County which has a ton of cabins you can rent) >Canton, NY (Has St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton) >Brockport, NY (Near Rochester, home of SUNY Brockport) >Cortland, NY (Home of SUNY Cortland) >Fredonia, NY (Home of SUNY Fredonia) >Geneseo, NY (Home of SUNY Geneseo) >New Paltz, NY (Home of SUNY New Paltz, very beautiful place in the middle of the Catskills, full of hippies) >Oneonta, NY (Home of SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College) >Oswego, NY (Home of SUNY Oswego, close to Syracuse) >Plattsburgh, NY (Home of SUNY Plattsburgh, one of few college towns in the Adirondacks) >Potsdam, NY (Home of SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University, also right next to Canton too) >Purchase, NY (Home of SUNY Purchase and Manhattanville College, a super rich area in Westchester) >Red Hook, NY (Home of Bard College, near Poughkeepsie) >Hamilton, NY (Home of Colgate University) >Ithaca, NY (Home of Ithaca College and Cornell University, probably the best one out of these, a lot scenic areas around it) >Elmira, NY (Home of Elmira College) >Clinton, NY (Home of Hamilton College, near Utica-Rome) >Geneva, NY (Home of Hobart and William Smith College, nice area) >Poughkeepsie, NY (Home of Marist and Vassar College, a small city) >Dobbs Ferry, NY (Home of Mercy University, a very rich area in Westchester) >>

Anonymous 01/16/25(Thu)11:08:23 No. 2751120 >>2750962 OK I can speak on this having lived there 20 years: Oregon: Corvallis is a nice town but not worth traveling to unless you did so as a road game. Don't wear your teams gear if you don't like harassment or banter. I went there once for a job interview. Eugene has a lot of sovl. Go to Nostalgia Comics for the best comics shop in the PNW go to Hult Center for great music, the general quality of nightclubs is high so if you like a band its a mustsee experience just go, Eugene has an edge to it so you can genuinely get jumped by a homeless man on fentanyl. Saturday Market is nice food trucks are kick ass there, for some reason the Thai food in Eugene is bomb bomb bom like unbelievably delicious. Camp Putt is a really cute mini golf place, it has a huge waterfall you can walk under. The campus is generally picturesque and if you go on a fresh air rainy day its seriously memory fuel, the smell of the aged buildings the fresh moist air hopefully its got a chill its what I remember. Whittaker Neighborhood is the rough side of town if you like adventure tourism go walk around the pubs there. Taco Time is a tasty chain Mexican restaurant that most people have never been too and Burrito Bros. Go to the beach in Florence, Oregon 100%, if you can get to an Arctic Circle, DO SO and trust me buy the drink Lime Rickey, the most unknown but addictive non alcoholic beverage of all time. They also have classic A&W restaurants, you can get root beer in glasses real giant glasses and hot dogs burgers its all right. For anything else use Tripadvisor. From what I know SOU is a decent university a lot of people go there for Drama degrees and whatever. Ashland is the drama capitol of the PNW with the best Shakespeare festival. That is mostly the reason to go there. The Harry & David factory tour is worth it, the pears there are life changing. That is what I know.>>

Anonymous 01/16/25(Thu)13:07:37 No. 2751147 Many college towns are just basically like suburbs where there's nothing to do and everything closes at 9, except for the 5 block radius around campus, which is fast casual take out restaurants, Asian/middle eqstern restaurants (for the international students), and party bars. >>

Anonymous 01/16/25(Thu)15:21:38 No. 2751167 >>2750694 I grew up in a college town (Amherst, MA), and lived/worked/studied in a diverse handful of other college towns before moving to a major city in my late 20s. On some levels, I see the appeal—college towns almost always have more going on in terms of culture, entertainment, and general amenities than towns of the same size without institutions of higher education in them. But when it comes to small towns dominated by their schools, especially in rural areas, it’s a mixed blessing at best—they’re small economies that often accumulate disproportionate populations of highly educated people, and may not have the jobs and wages to accommodate them. My old hometown of Amherst is an example—it and the surrounding towns, several of which have their own colleges in them, have a lot of charm. I go back to visit the region regularly and have fantasized about buying a house there. But there are almost no jobs outside of academia and various service industries, jobs that do exist don’t pay well, and the housing market is either expensive compared to available wages or just sort of crummy. I would still consider spending a few years in Northampton, MA (college town just down the road from where I grew up, actually slightly smaller than Amherst but with a nicer/denser town center), but only if I brought my work with me or scored something usually good. I would rather live in a larger town/small city with a college or university plus some other economic activity when all is said and done. Places I’ve lived that fit that description include but aren’t limited to Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Berkeley, CA. College town vibes in all, but also jobs for people of post-barista age.>>
Anonymous 01/16/25(Thu)17:03:56 No. 2751181 >>2750694 Davis, California was quite cozy. Felt like a typical college town. Anonymous 01/17/25(Fri)10:16:24 No. 2751403 >>2751400 Went to school there. It’s very nice in some ways—beautiful natural setting, a few great and a lot of decent restaurants, reasonably nice little downtown. Both campuses are sort of removed from the town center, which is IMO a plus; not everywhere in town feels dominated by/like it’s catering exclusively to college kids. Winters can be really cold. It’s pretty far from any other points of interest or a decent airport.>>

Anonymous 01/17/25(Fri)12:38:54 No. 2751427 Let's be real. If you are not studying, the only reason to live in a college town is to test out your luck with the turbosluts attending college. If you are thinking changing homes will be enough to nail pussy when you couldn't do it in your hometown, you are wrong. There, done. /thread >>
Anonymous 01/18/25(Sat)05:19:25 No. 2751608 >>2751424 I know more than a few people who still live there—like most good college towns, some graduates decide never to leave. So a handful of my college classmates stuck around and made lives for themselves there (at least three by taking full-time staff jobs at Cornell, two who became teachers at local public schools, one who was running a restaurant but is now doing I’m not sure what). Also know a guy from a couple of classes ahead of me who recently went back to accept a professorship, although he’d been elsewhere for a decade-plus. They all seem to like it. It’s a midsized, largely upper-middle-class town with more affordable semi-rural/suburban towns around the edges, only a few of which are dismal. And although the people who kept working on campus seemed kind of weird to me at first, they all seem to dig their jobs.>>
Anonymous 01/18/25(Sat)05:29:33 No. 2751612 >>2751427 There's also the visual element, anon. If you've ever lived in one of those bleak American towns with a complete dearth of attractive women, you'd understand. Just seeing pretty girls going about their day can give a guy a good dopamine boost, let alone catching a smile or a "hi" from one on occasion. Mooning over e-girls on your laptop screen is a lousy substitute.
