Not sure whether to use this board or /g/ for this topic but I figured that anons who travel abroad might know more about this. My little sister makes a long drive through zero service mountain roads when going to college and I was looking into getting her something like a satellite phone for emergencies. However, they are pretty pricey and more importantly every single subscription or prepaid sim I can find is time based rather than usage based meaning that in 99% of cases when she doesnt have an emergency it's just pissing money down the drain. I'm not sure if I just don't know where to look, but would anyone know if there are any usage based sim options (i.e. set amount of minutes as opposed to X days of service then expiry)? Are sims used in standard smartphones as reliable as an actual satellite phone?
>>2751817Is there traffic on those mountain roads?Because if there is I doubt a college girl is gonna have any trouble getting help from passerby’s
>>2751834I've heard it's scarce in certain stretches and she's taken to following her friends commuting home for part of the journey but that won't always be possible.
