Stayed in my first curtain hotel (pic related is a generic curtain hotel) and was wondering if anyone here knew more about them.

Yeah thats about right, I was really suprised the first time I went how many actual cool people you meet. I guess most people online especially here are more on the depressive side, which leads to false conclusions. I was also suprised how many non mongers there are in Pattaya, like families with kids and stuff like that.

What I find hilarious is the large multi-family arab groups that stay in the apartment hotels. They bring the women and children on holiday to Thailand then do exactly what they'd do back home - spend all day in the mall and then leave the women and children at the hotel so the men and older boys can go out and act like homosexuals at shisha bars, then peel off to 'go back to the hotel' aka haram shenanigans.

It's good for the rest of us though when they just keep to their familiar zones.

If you want something cheap, it's hardly comfy. Because that's where everyone gathers, the cheapest I can recommend is Ramkhamhaeng University cafeteria, but there are also a lot of people during breakfast and lunchtime (around 7-8 and 11-13). But if you can spend more, you can go to Assumption University cafeteria; they have fewer people, and the scene is beautiful. If you can't handle local food, there is also the Silapakorn student restaurant. It's expensive, but it's overseen by a French chef.
