How do know if I'm enrolling into a GOOD or BAD language school?
>>
>>2833064
pricetag, location, the facilities, the teachers.
amount of jeets.
>>
>>2833064
Good schools have lots of jeets, viets, etc. because they need to learn Japanese fast to enter the workforce. Bad schools have lots of lazy westerners that can't pass N4 after 3 years.
>>
>>2833071
Should I be avoiding places with teachers who only teach in Japanese? Because I gotta say...this shit is ASS. This is Beginner 1. I shouldn't need a translator just to listen to the lectures.

You need to be immersed in the language. If they're talking to you in English half the time you'll have no incentive to actually learn. Sink or swim
>>
>>2833075
One doesn't learn a new language via osmosis, dude. Especially at the most basic beginner level. Can't ask questions, can't figure out when homework is due or when tests are coming if the teachers aren't even bilingual
>>
>dude, japan
>>
>>2833076
Are you the brother of the retard who's crying in Osaka because everyone there is mean?
Why would you want your teacher to speak english when you're learning another language? Are you even aware you now need N5 to be enrolled in a language school?

>N5
>At the JLPT N5 level, a learner can understand basic phrases and sentences written in hiragana, katakana, and fundamental kanji, and can comprehend short, slow conversations about everyday topics such as oneself, family, or shopping.
>For example, they can understand and use simple sentences like "私はサムです" (Watashi wa Samu desu), meaning "I am Sam," and "これは本です" (Kore wa hon desu), meaning "This is a book".
>They can also ask simple questions using the question marker か (ka), such as "あなたは学生ですか" (Anata wa gakusei desu ka?), meaning "Are you a student?".
>Additionally, they can express basic desires and preferences, like "私は猫が好きです" (Watashi wa neko ga suki desu), meaning "I like cats," or "私は新しい車が欲しいです" (Watashi wa atarashii kuruma ga hoshii desu), meaning "I want a new car".

I want you to really take in and absorb the first few words of this shit. BASIC PHRASES AND SENTENCES. JAPANESE SENTENCES SPOKEN SLOWLY. If you think for one attosecond that any of the teachers in Beginner 1 are:
1. Speaking slowly
2. Using basic phrases or sentences
3. Saying basic shit like "I want a car," or "My name is Sue." for three hours straight, you are one huge fucking disingenuous faggot. Here's something basic for (You). You are the dumbest mother fucker on planet Earth right now. I know Hiragana, Katakana, and can even write some Kanji. I can introduce myself in Japanese. I can speak some basic phrases and sentences in Japanese. I understand some basic shit in Japanese. But what is being uttered in these classes is not basic. It certainly doesn't fall anywhere remot3ely under N5. I want (You) to take a selfie with the barrel end of a shotty, because the massive dump I just took in my music-playing toilet had possessed more intelligence and empathy than you. Now fuck off, faggot.

Sorry anon, seems like either you got scammed or didn't read through the school requirements thoroughly.
I am also planning to do the student visa, work visa, hopefully fully emigrate method too and I've noticed that the actually serious looking schools require you to have N3 or N2 and their shorter courses are 2 semesters minimum.
It just doesn't seem legit to me when a school claims to help you advance to any next jlpt level in 3 months. (even if it's from 0 to N5)
>>
>>2833267
0 to N5 in 3 months is doable in 3 months with just Anki.
>>
>>2833270
>46 katakana
>46 hiragana
>80 kanji
>greetings
>basic grammatical structure (noun, adjectives, verbs, particles)
Unless you are east asian (similar culture) or a westerner genius there is no way an average person can learn all that in just 3 months. Maybe otaku could pass given he memorized some words like sugoi and konnichiwa and has the motivation to study everyday without burning out, but then that means he wasn't starting from zero.
Anyway, N5 is absolutely useless if you want to land a job so any school offering courses for it is obviously a scam.

Happy to get out of Takamatsu. I hit Ritsurin Garden. Got some nice pictures of me. However I probably went at the worst time, a decent amount of dead foliage and no autumn colors. Oh well.

The festival in Saijo was sick even if I missed the main event. Marching down the streets with all the floats felt magical to say the least. Made friends with some jap couple in a izakaya after. 2nd girl on this trip to say I have a "cool face" and "very American" looking. Was supposed to go the festival today in Niihama with them but it fell through. Still too many baka shiroi gaijin, but at least no more jeets.
>>
>>2833281
I'm not even trying to be an elitist but...
>46 katakana
>46 hiragana
Doable in a week starting from absolute scratch.
>80 kanji
Can literally do this in under an hour on Anki. With 45-90 minutes of review each day for 3 months you'll have 100% retention unless you've literally got some kind of learning disability.
>greetings
Nigga there's like 5 main greetings that make up 99% of daily use.
>basic grammatical structure (noun, adjectives, verbs, particles)
This is the only part that's difficult to wrap your head around if you're starting from a Western SVO language but even still, 1 hour of study a day is like 90 hours of studying over 3 months, that's longer than you spend in class in a semester for an average 3 hour credit course subject.
>>
>>2833281
I learnt the N3 alone this year in barely 3 months because family problems, got it, and am now in a language school to pass the N2 and hopefully land a job next year. It's entirely doable.

That's Kousanji, yeah? I've been there before. Hugely underrated. I think people overlook it because it's pretty "new" in temple terms (built in the 1930s or 40s iirc), but it is beautiful and the Buddha tunnel is indeed really creepy with its depictions of Buddhist hell. the taxi drivers in Japan are barely alive. they are literally so old I fear for my own safety whenever I get into a taxi in Japan. I don't need a "barrier to entry", I want someone to drive me where the GPS points them to for a reasonable price

Travelling next Thursday to Osaka. Where are good places for Halloween parties? I just found parties for November 25th but not for 31st. Any ideas?

I meant a place like a club or something. It's my first Halloween there so I assume you just follow the crowd or?
