Starting today, Japan enters a nine-day holiday period over the New Year, so large crowds are expected at tourist spots everywhere. Shrines and temples in particular are expected to be extremely crowded, so it's best to avoid them. However, with the sharp decline in Chinese tourists, you should be able to enjoy a slightly more pleasant atmosphere at any tourist destination.

Ohhh great masters of jpg, I come with great honor and respect, and I must request great wisdom from great masters such as yourselves if it would please. Why do ((JET)) get such a bad rep in this general? Thank you for the words of wisdom
Why isn't Japan more thankful for our tourism money?
>>2851417Expat, I dont think I've ever met a JET/ALT expect maybe once. Its just a low entry job with shit pay and hours that attracts alot of the Japanese glazers weebs. That and they routinely fuck their underageb& students to the point where its a running meme the real reason they are there is to increase birth rates. Some also have this really lanky/AIDS looking phenotype but I attribute that to poor nutrition and not cooking at home.Shit posting aside its actually not that bad, they do infact get slightly more than other post college entry level Japanese. Its just ultimately a dead end job that the Japanese themselves need to revamp becuase they are terrible themselves with ALT.
>>2851425>they routinely fuck their underageb& studentsI've heard memes about this but never stories about it actually being true. At the very least, they get reported very quickly once word gets around about this.
>>2851285yes some will be mad. wouldn't you be mad if a spic told you to speak spanish?
Is 50 bucks a day (and the JPY equivalent) enough for a food budget? Assume an average diet and no Michelin-tier eateries.
>>2851433Yes that's enough. Even 30 is enough though you won't get anything fancy.
>>2851418I mean they are... kinda. It just the usual tourist spots that get overwhelmed.I'm not a tourist and take trips to country alot even in winter. You can tell the locals really are grateful considering how stressed these places got during covid.
>>2851433Even at high-end restaurants, tempura rice bowls cost $10 to $20.
I'm planning a six day stint in Tokyo, with a three day stint after going out west for a week or so. Is this too much time for the city?
>>2851433you can do fine with 15 if you eat at conbini
>>2851459If you love city life and have a strong curiosity, that amount of time won't be nearly enough.
Do I need an onward flight for japan?
>>2851433>>2851460Prepared meals at Japanese grocery stores are much cheaper than prepared meals at Japanese convenience stores. Remember that convenience stores prioritize convenience rather than discounts or savings.
>>2851468If you only eat out or rely on bento boxes, your nutrition will inevitably become unbalanced (lacking vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, etc.). That's why you should buy prepared foods, vegetable salads, fruits, and so on at the supermarket to balance your nutrition, right?
>>2851463Do you want to save on airfare? or do you want to take a break during a long flight?
>>2851481I just might, what are you suggesting here?
>>2851481No they're an illegal immigrant.
>>2851459I dunno how people can only spend a week or two in Japan.I spent three months there and it still didnt feel like enough. Going again for three months in May
>>2851492Some people have jobs.
>>2851483it is cheaper to pick flights with stops. Usually the longer it takes to get you to your destination the cheaper your ticket becomes but you will have to sleep in airports like a hobo to save some dollars. You can also save by using 2 different airlines

Could anyone recommend things to do and places to visit in Osaka? I’ll be spending 3 days there on my first trip to Japan. I’ll arrive in Osaka in the afternoon of January 26 and stay until January 29. I’d really appreciate any kind of recommendations, food spots, nightlife, otaku/video game-related places, or cultural activities. Thanks a lot!
>>2851495That has nothing to do with needing to show an onward flight, but thanks for the lifehack brother.
>>2851463Been to Japan on oneway tickets many times never been asked by immigration nor by airlines to show the return ticket.I always had a hotel address to put in the immigration form though, never been asked about those either, unlike other countries in Asia.I guess it helps that I don't look like a bum and hold a first world passport.
>>2851583osaka castle, obviouslythere's a pokemon cafe if you're into that, i found it slightly easier to get a reservation for than the one in tokyothe aquarium in osaka is great too
>>2851478Another difference between convenience stores and grocery stores is that prepared meals for convenience stores are usually shipped out from one big kitchen factory while prepared meals for grocery stores are usually cooked on-site at the employee kitchen located at the back of the grocery store, so you are partly paying for the shipping fee required to ship prepared meals from a factory to a convenience store.Inside a Japanese Supermarket Deli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZfzwuj9caM

Going to japan in august. How bad will it really be? Im from the midwest btw
>>2851626hot as fuck. Mid august in osaka it can get up to 37 degrees Celsius around 2pm. and at midnight it will stay 31 degrees Celsius, and the humidity will make this even worse. go to hokkaido
>>2851627nta, would you know what it's like mid may/early june?
Hello Anons. I'm approaching day 27 being in Japan, I feel like I'm running out of steam for my last week. I've done a lot and been around the countryside and done quite a few days trips. For the last week I'm mostly confined to Tokyo as Comiket is in a few days + new years. If anyone has any suggestions on what they found interesting or would do again I'd love to hear it. I'm doing 1 last anime pilgrimage, shopping and drinking and I'm about done with what I had listed.
>>2851583>food spotsosaka's big three are takoyaki, kushikatsu, and okonomiyaki. these are all really simple foods and not worth going out of your way to find a specialty restaurant for each one or anything like that. any place will do, just poke your head inside and see if there are non-foreigner customers, and if there are it'll probably be decent. kuromon market is also definitely worth checking out. >nightlifebasically you can boil it down to a choice between umeda and the shinsaibashi/namba area. umeda is considerably more upscale and there's also a gay village there if you're into that. shinsaibashi and namba are more traditional japanese nightlife areas. i don't know what kind of nightlife you're into specifically so i can't make specific reservations but suffice to say there's something for everyone>otaku/video game-related placesdenden town. specifically i recommend kotobukiya; i haven't been to a lot of anime/otaku spots in osaka but i did go there and it was really good. >cultural activitiescastle, USJ, aquarium. i would say skip USJ if you're there by yourself desu, it's more fun with a group. there's also quite a few performing arts centers where you can watch noh or comedy or whatever they're doing that day. if you want something more chill you might see if you can snag a same day ticket, shouldnt be too hard unless something truly popular is in town
>All dayI presume that's from 9am till 6pm?But then what's overnight, 9am till 9am? I want 9am till 6pm the next day, 33h.
>>2851633>I'm mostly confined to Tokyo as Comiket is in a few days + new years.Make sure to come to the meetup.>>>/jp/50494519
>>2851634i forgot to say that there's also a nightlife element in and around the shinsekai area but it all seemed rather sketchy to me, with lots of chinese, vietnamese, and filipino mamasans waving you into various darkly lit snack bar type establishments. i'm not saying don't go there but definitely be more on guard especially if you're alone. nearby tobita is safe, however.
>>2851629less hotosaka is around 24-28 degrees at 2PM, and 18-21 at midnight-mid may to early junetokyo is about 23-27 degrees at 2PM, and 17-21 at midnight, same time frame. and it will get about 4 degrees hotter from mid may to first week of june. humidity is not bad however.
Between people from Osaka and Tokyo, which one are more snobby?
>>2851633Honestly maybe take a day off, and do some minor sightseeing but keep it short? Just rechargeThere are plays/shows, shopping(ginza shibuya shinjuku), unique cafes and bars, thrifting, day trips to: kamakura nikko mt takao mt fuji, disney world, teamlabs, ueno museums, observation decks, watch a movie, see if theres any seasonal events happening, arcades, a hike, animal cafe, aquarium, adult services, look up free walking tours, go to a spa or day onsen,
>>2851642Tokyo people are cold, Osaka people are relaxed and friendly
>>2851645Tbh Osaka just seems inferior. What is there to do aside the normie shit like Dotonbori, the Castle, Aquarium and USJ (on the latter, why would I travel half the globe just to enter a theme park that I can see in America)
>>2851646Anon, you can leave the city and explore the surrounding areas.
>>2851597Hey handsome, why don't you come in and have some fun?
>>2851643I took a recharge day yesterday, it kind of helped as drinking and eating like shit for the last X amount of days took its toll. Appreciate the ideas anon.>>2851636Shiet, I have a morning ticket for the 31st. I should be there, will be keen to see other anons in the flesh.
Going all the way to a distant hot spring for a day trip is just tiring. Spending the whole day lounging around at a super sento or spa in the city is more refreshing and doesn't cost as much.
>>2851633Did you get tickets for the Miku new year at the government building?>>2851642Kyoto>But I said Osaka and Tok...Kyoto
>>2851626Be careful of heat rash, thigh sore, and heatstroke.
>>2851662I'll be real with you anon, outside of comiket & accommodation I'm just winging it. It does look cool though, still figuring out what to do for New years right now. Mogra was my intention but 5,000 wuwongs and the potential to not even get in seems like to much annoyance.
>>2851626I was in Saitama in the dead of July visiting Washinomiya and it was bordering on dangerous because it was 39C and there was no shade and the nearest conbini was like a 20 minute walk from the station. It won't kill you if you stay hydrated and break frequently, just don't be a retard. If you're a bitch about the heat though, you will suffer.>>2851629It's pretty temperate depending on where you are. I found it cool overnight and the it never got warmer than mid 20s. >>2851481>>2851587I work remotely and like to have flexibility. Maybe I'll end up changing plans for my next country after a month in Japan. I've never overstayed a visa in my life. I'd like to fly into Osaka and figure out my next stop in Japan a few days after landing.
>>2851697Counting down at a temple or shrine.
>>2851697>>2851699Many people will visit famous shrines and temples like Yasukuni Shrine, Meiji Shrine, and Sensoji Temple for New Year's Eve countdowns. And the Yamanote Line, Chuo Line, Sobu Line, and Keihin-Tohoku Line will operate all day.
I arrived in Japan on the evening of the 23rd, it's now the night of the 29th and I've yet to take a shit. I'm used to getting constipation whenever I travel but it usually only lasts 2-3 days max. I'm guessing it's because of all the rice, not enough fiber. I'm genuinely afraid for my asshole when this turd finally decides to pop out.

>>2851239Anybody been to Japan multiple times? I've been twice now, considering a 3rd trip to Hokkaido someday. On the same token I do want to see Europe also.
>>2851764>anyone been multiple times?Yeah but what are you actually asking? If your asking if you should go to Europe instead, yes I would suggest to spend the time and resources on prioritizing that trip before a 3rd trip to Japan>>2851713I am convinced heavy constipation is usually more of a "not accepting something in my life" symptom. Sure dietary changes play a part but my point is that the mental aspect is usually more powerful. Would you say theres anything in your life your not able to digest or accept?Does anyone wanna give some tips or advice for renting a car? My biggest concern is finding parking when stopping for food and lodging
>>2851764Been twice and been extensively around Europe as well (I'm from the UK so its easy). Personally I'd rather go to Japan for a third time than see any more of Europe. Money goes much further in Japan and I prefer it culturally, actually I wish I didn't travel so much in Europe so I could have spent much longer travelling in Asia instead. I'll go back to Japan for a third trip but it wont be for another 2 or 3 years
I keep instinctively handing cash to cashiers. I'm supposed to use the tray, right? Many cashiers hand me my change back even when I use the tray.
>>2851817I'm American, and never been to Europe. I have been all over Asia a few times and have only done asia thus far, Japan is my favorite country easily and I am glad I have seen so much of it. I just feel like I need to visit some of the places in Europe to get a taste of that also, mostly want to see castles and cool old architecture, i'd like to be a more balanced traveler rather than just a mega-weeaboo (which I am)
>>2851828There is nothing wrong with being a weeb. Europe is boring af and in Japan I felt like I was in an Isekai, so yeah. I want to return within 3 to 4 years after I graduate from Unk
>>2851837My second trip to Japan was even better than my first one because I was doing all the other stuff I didn't do the first time, I did a slower more laid back travel approach and stayed in some places longer and just enjoyed being there, went out into rural Japan into the mountains, that was amazing. Yeah, I hate to admit it, but it did feel like being in Isekai/anime land. The escapist feeling Japan has is amazing. I don't think I can replicate that sort of feeling in Europe, but still, I think it could be interesting to see in it's own right despite so many people saying everything is awful in Europe now.
>>2851828>>2851840Thanks for opening up to us, feel free to continue expressing yourself. You go girl
my gf wants us to spend New Years through the 3rd with her grandparents in their big country house in the middle of nowhere. i already live in an inaka as fuck town but this is a step further, from what it looks like on google maps the nearest convenience store is like a 15 minute drive away ;_; i guess it might be cool though, whatever. hopefully there's no cursed shrine or something nearby

The guy was laughing, took the pamphlet, the girl was matching the energy and cracking jokes too, and she guided him to the hostess bar.The girls get more intense most likely if orders come from the inside that movement is slow (I assume), I had a girl speak English to me, she said something in Japanese, I ignored as I always did, then she stretched her arm pretending she was reaching for me and shouted PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!I guess she saw me going back and forth (cuz I was looking for a specific store there and found myself circling the same streets until I found it)maybe going into those cafes is not a bad idea after all, I will muster up the courage to go next time i'm in japan

What are the trendiest neighborhoods in Tokyo? I like to document street style/fashion. Men/women/femboys, doesn't matter.
>>2852062Ikebukuro was chock full of otaku girls wearing extremely cute shit, and conversely a bunch of fuckboys just posing around in public spaces hoping to catch a girl or two, they also are dressing fashionably. I hated Ikebukuro because it was completely geared towards women and there was absolutely fucking nothing to do there, but it at least allowed me to see that side of otaku culture
>>2852021I mean the old ones were better, nearly every station had different ones. Also the old soundfronts used were just better.
I got sick off the guy sat next to me on the plane last time. I wanted to visit Kyoto and Himeji on my stay in Osaka but my hotel in Tokyo was booked since I had a concert to attend.Should I even bother with Kyoto? I want to go near Christmas next year or maybe November, I was considering Sendai as an alternative before heading to Haneda to fly home. Any good museums and the like there?
Besides AirBnB, I am looking for cheap places around Tokyo (as close to the Yamanote Line as possible). Do you have any recommendations, I want a place for two people and under or equal do $1100 for three weeks
>>2852087Spend at least one day in Kyoto imo, do a super packed day to see the best of Kyoto then dip. I wouldn't skip Himeji, it's the best castle of Japan
>>28520883 weeks for 1100$ is impossible besides hostels. Generally 80$ per night for a 2 person room is the absolute minimum you can get in Tokyo. You might as well book two capsule hotels which will be 70$, and even then it would go over budget.
>>2852091The thing is, I did find capsule hotels but I am not familiarized on them and I wouldn't lile for my friend to stay at a capsule hotel for his first trip to Japan (I went there on June). Another thing is to go to Osaka, but I feel Tokyo has more to offer than Osaka
>>2852093You could get hotels for as low as 50$ per night in Kyoto but Tokyo? No chance

So now I am more careful to book with the owners directly than using a third-party app or website.

>>2852475The term "concafe" is short for "concept cafe", and refers to a cafe that differentiates itself from other cafes by incorporating a specific theme and pushing it to the forefront. Although the word "cafe" is in the name, most con cafes serve alcohol and are open at night, so their basic style is that of a cafe and bar. So you are saying that maid cafes are a type of con cafe? If you think so, you have come to the right place. Maid cafes are a type of concept cafe with the concept of maids. It has been 20 years since maid cafes first appeared in Akihabara, and now various types of concept cafes, not limited to "maids", have emerged. What is the difference between a con cafe and a girl's bar? A girl's bar is often compared to a con cafe. A girl's bar is a place where you can enjoy drinks while talking with girls over the counter, but unlike a girl's bar, a con cafe has the following characteristics: (1) There is a concept, (2) Moe content like drawing omurice, (3) There is a photo shoot, (4) Some of the cast members are not female, such as in men's con cafes, and (5) There is no exchange of contact informationNationwide concept cafe database and map in Japan: https://con-cafe.jp/https://x.com/con_cafejp

Best site to buy sumo tickets off of? west coast canada here, looking to get a box seat for the 10th/11th of the march basho
>>2852587To be precise, Okinawa was American territory for 27 years. Then, in 1972, administrative control was returned to Japan. Naha Station was once a hub station for three railway lines, but the stations and tracks were destroyed during the war and left abandoned. During the Korean War, the rails were removed for use as weapon materials.
>>2852626>Happy 17th birthday to BuySumoTickets! We started BST on December 2nd 2008, helping customers with tickets for the January 2009 Grand Sumo Tournament. It has been an extremely eventful year since our last birthday post, both for good and bad reasons.>The good is that we made new friends among jungyos and oyakatas. We supported tickets for Tokushoryu's and Kotoeko's retirement ceremonies. We then expanded the services that we can provide to oyakatas for their ceremonies, by printing an English program and having an English support desk at Myogiryu's event. Myogiryu invited Jeff to participate in his hair-cutting, which was an honour. We connected with Terunofuji, Hokutofuji, and Takarafuji, to support their ceremonies in 2026. We also connected with the former Kyokutaisei, who was a favorite among the English-speaking sumo fan community because of a documentary made about him when he joined sumo, for a project that he is working on and we'll announce here later.>The bad is that ticket availability for Grand Sumo Tournaments has become a serious problem. We had to drop support for Tokyo until further notice. Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka are still OK for now, but we're taking fewer orders than we used to and we don't know for how much longer even that can last. The worst of our customers continued to embarrass us with their bad behaviour at the sumo venues, causing the Sumo Association office (which is different from the oyakatas) to try again to put us out of business, this time with their lawyer. Finally, we have been dealing with cancer among our BST staff, but treatment is going well and the outcome should be positive.>After all of that, we're happy to still be standing! We don't know what the next year will bring for us, but we have a good team and we're ready for the challenge. A big thanks to our customers (the ones who didn't behave poorly) for another year of your support!https://www.buysumotickets.com/

Do your research before. Soaplands or anything erotic is mostly a business for Japanese natives. Most of the legit ones don't allow foreigners. The ones mainly for foreigners often try to scam. And don't expect Japanese gals there.. usually philipinos, thai, etc. Nightclub may disappoint you, they really aren't all that good anymore in Tokyo.

Bear in mind usually there is a queue - I waited about 20 minutes to enter and it's supposedly not a lot by their standards, when I left there was twice as many people waiting. I had two drinks, they were good, so nothing to complain about, price wise it was okay too. Crowd does feel very European, I don't think there was even a single Japanese person inside while I was there, a lot of Brits but also Germans, Dutch etc. so yeah overall it was okay, only downside is how cramped it felt.

What is escolar/butterfish/walu called in Japanese and is it easy to get around there?I recently learned that the "white tuna" being sold at my local chinese-run japanese restaurant (and apparently many others) is actually something called escolar, butterfish or walu. in an incredible irony, they also do serve regular albacore which is also perfectly fine, so just, strange that they have both "albacore" and "white tuna" (actually escolar/etc...) on the menu
>>2853112>What makes them disappointing in your opinion?Last time I went to Womb it was 95% men. And, when it's not just tourists, they kinda celebrate the DJ always. Too bad Ageha got shut down because that one I enjoyed.
>>2853182Escolar is illegal to sell or serve in Japan >Escolar (also called butterfish, walu, or super white tuna) has been banned in Japan since 1977 because its high content of indigestible wax esters can cause severe gastrointestinal issues, including oily diarrhea, earning it nicknames like the "Ex-Lax Fish". While not inherently toxic, the wax esters cause keriorrhea, a condition where oily discharge occurs, leading governments like Japan's to prohibit its sale to protect consumers from discomfort

>>2853312My bad, I meant days. My total trip duration is 13 days or so.
going to hokkaido next week, don't really have experience with temperatures around -10 C is layering with fleece + puffer + shell the way to go or should I just get one heavy jacket and call it a day?it snows daily so it's not like i'm not going to wear the shell on any day anyways so it just seems like more hassle to have multiple layers
>>2853352as someone who works outside all day year round in 0-10f temps regularly (and recently; because it's fucking winter) I'm gonna suggest you do layers. My winter go-to is thermal underwear (old style longjohns) under my pants (normal pants, jeans or cargo, the type of thing you wear when working outside. I'm NOT a fan of snow-pants, I do have colleagues who are, depends on how hot/cold you like it, and how liable you are to get sweaty (which you want to avoid at all costs, freezing in your own sweat sucks). For the top I do some under-armor style more modern silky turtleneck thing, with a tight fitting zip up hooded softshell water resistant jacket on top of that, and a looser fitting heavier (but still "medium in it's own right, like you could wear this thing over a T-shirt on a warm rainy day) windbreaker/rainjacket (also hooded). Finish it off with a big bushy beard, and an ushanka, this will keep you relatively dry and overall comfortable anywhere from 0 to 30f (-18 to 0c), regardless of if it's a sunny on the higher end where you unzip a bit, or 20/+mph winds, snow, sleet or pouring rain. The key is the airgapped wind and moisture resistant outer and inner layers, which will protect you from the worst shit (getting wet, and windchill) and you're just a few zippers away from cooling off to varying degrees whenever you needit's also important to dress planned on what you're going to be doing; if you're going hiking or skiing or something else highly physical, you're going to generate a lot of heat, and not need to dress as heavy; similarly, are you going to be outside all the time? or mainly indoors with occasional outdoor traversals?Like I don't fucking dress as described above when it's "this cold" if I'm not going to be outside all day, if I'm just going to do some grocery shopping or to the bar, I only need to be warm enough to traverse the parking lot. but yeah, do fucking layers, layers that work for YOU, but layers nonetheless
>>2853354makes sense, thankswill do layers and just buy more stuff there if needed thenplanning to do a bit of everything there, mostly just a lot of walking, both in cities and outside though
>>2853358you could consider bringing 'both' types of outfits if you're going to be doing both urban and rural wanderings, and will be in hokkaido for a longer time?I'm actually gonna be in hokkaido in feb myself, I'm only going to be hanging out in sapporo for the last few days of the snow festival, so I'm not even bringing my usual winter getup, as I'm not leaving the city or doing anything outdoorsy. I'm just going to have a heavy jacket over something light, that's good for "short walks down the street/through the parking lot" etc... and unzipping when I step inside.

I am impressed that a foreigner managed to get a hunting permit in Japan. In order to solve their wild bear, boar, and deer problem, I wonder if Japan should create a hunting visa program that would allow foreign hunters to immediately hunt wild game in Japan without having to wait for 1 year to get approval for a hunting license.>A hunter from the United States is in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. He had been hunting in the United States since he was a child, but even after immigrating to Japan, he entered the mountains every day with permission to possess guns and hunting permits, and to exterminate harmful birds and animals.A hunter from the United States went into the mountains of Hyogo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsN-lQazjEA

I’m doing Tokyo Sapporo. Should I do 3 nights and 3 nights? Or 4 nights tokyo and 2 nights sapporo?

So i hear theres a lot of niche types of maid cafes, cosplay, gyaru, etc... is there such a thing as a tsundere cafe? Like where all the waitresses are in twintails and act all standoffish and disgusted while you order, and then call you a baka when they bring you your coffee? If not, someone should do this. Still haven't decided on which part of Tokyo I'll stay in for the last six days of my upcoming trip: Ikebukuro, Ueno or near Shinjuku. Any difference really (besides the cost difference)? Also, is it possible to buy tickets to concerts/events that are only sold through ePlus or Pia when in Japan without the Japanese phone number requirements etc.? Like from a market or the venue?
>>2853320Hey even if you're a chatbot this was a good recommend
>>2853550Id say ueno>bukuro>>>>>>shinjukuAll3 are on yamanote and therefore good for general access to tokyo, ueno is great because you can get there via skyliner and not have to wheel your shit around tokyo station if you ride nex in from the airport. Also stones throw from aki and has nightlifeBukero and shinjuku have obviously more nightlife right nearby so you dont have to worry about the last train. That said, ikebukuro and shinjuku have very very busy stations, which i personally wouldnt want to deal with on a daily basis, but thats just meAll 3 are perfectly fine, my preference is towards ueno, if you're an absolute fucking party animal and want to hang in shinjuku all night every night and dont mind the overcrowded titanic labyrinth that is the station, go for it.Ikebukuro is.... a happy medium? The stations not as bad for daily use (compared to shinjuku) it just comes down to if theres things you're interested in the area
>>2853434This is massive missed potential, not even a hunting visa program, they should do africa-style safari hunts. Imagine if you could rent onsite OR better yet import your own (tightly controlled obviously, it gets flown in separate from you and delivered to the tour organizer on-site, returned to them whenever you leave the "lodge", and sent back in a similar fashion) guns and then just go hunting hokkaido brown bear for 10 days or something while staying in some nice onsens, but also some nights the tour organizers can bus you to downtown sapporo or whatever closest city and let you either fuck around and do whatever you want until they pick everyone up and drive them back, or do some kind of guided barcrawls and nightlife tours. Imagine what a fucking story it would be for the boys back home when you tell them how you bagged a japanese bear with the very 10mm (some 220g bear load at the hunt) in your hand. Is what I just said mostly incomprehensible or cringe to most? probably. but I sure as hell can't be the only one who would be more than happy to drop a 5-15grand for a once in a lifetime experience like that, on top of a story I'm going to retell for decades.

Post-covid, is mid April still a notably brutal time for crowds, or is the level of tourism now generally so high that it makes less of a difference?

Planning a summer Kyushu trip, late June early July. Yes I know about 梅雨 it doesn't bother me, the late summer heat is way worse. Right now I'm thinking arrive in Tokyo and spend the night just recovering from the flight, then catch a morning domestic flight to Miyazaki and spend 4 nights there, nip over to Kagoshima by rail for 5 nights, zip up to Ashikita for 1-2 nights just to unwind (ryokan), and then spend the rest of the trip up in Fukuoka at an Airbnb with maybe day or overnight trips to Nagasaki and Saga from there. 23 days maybe, domestic flight back first thing in the morning to Tokyo on my last day and then international flight back home in the late evening.I think this is probably reasonable. Should be way more to do than I can possibly see, or eat, or drink in that time. And I'm basically skipping Kumamoto entirely to chill on the coast in Ashikita. Also probably no Kitakyushu. But I think it's a pretty good taster for the region. Any suggestions from Kyushu enjoyers here? Either changes to the itinerary or "definitely go go/try this".

I walked from roughly Otemachi, did the whole self-guided route around the Imperial Palace, and continued on aimlessly wandering vaguely westwards almost to where your waypoint is before turning around and walking all the way back and I wasn't tired at all and never once got lost despite having no language skills.

What do you think of my itinerary? Been to Japan couple of times, this time I don't plan to see Tokyo that much. And two trips to Tokyo, going to my fav ramen spots. >Shinkansen to Hiroshima>3 nights in HiroshimaFirst time there. The obvious tourist spots incl. Miyajima. Not sure wether to go to the museum as it seems very crowded and I'm already good with just reading wikipedia and search photos of it on the internet. >2 nights in OnomichiLots of walking around, exploring and checking some of the Ozu spots. Eating Onomichi ramen as much as I can.>2 nights at an comfy onsen hotel in AtamiJust relaxing after many days of walking a lot. >2 nights at a hotel near Ofuna stationTwo days of checking out Kamakura again which is my favorite place in Japan. Aight bros I need your help with luggage logistics. I know there's some new "luggage shipping service", I also know there's lockers at train stations from the last time I was there. This is for my upcoming trip which is happening in a few weeks. this time next month, I'll be in sapporo for the end of the snow festival.Couple days in tokyo, then 4d/3n in sapporo, then 4d/3n in osaka, back to tokyo for like a week. Flyin in with a large check-in bag, and a backpack(because you can't check-in a laptop). I figured I'm making THREE domestic flights, wouldn't it be cool if I didn't have to wait at baggage claim for them? What if; I do some shit with the package shipping and/or parcel lockers to bypass that entirely? What would work best here though? My main ideas revolves around...A. duffel bag easily compactable in check-in. Putting check-in bag into some "long term" locker (how does this work? common? expensive? actually staying at the same hotel for both of my tokyo segments, would it be a common or reasonable request if I asked them to "hold a bag" for over a week until I'm back?) Afaik you can't leave shit at the station lockers for that long. Then I just travel with a duffel bag + backpack, as personal item and carry-on. It'll be winter, I won't need to change much, easy to fit in a few changes of socks, boxers and have empty space in case I decide to buy things. B. forgoing the duffel bag, and just straight up sending my big ass check-in bag from tokyo to sapporo, then sapporo to osaka, then osaka back to tokyo. I can absolutely "make do" with what I can fit in a backpack for a day or two, so maybe here I "send the big bag" the morning before I'm flying out, go out, do whatever, the next morning just go to the airport with my backpack and pick up my big bag when I get to the hotel? Also what are this "bag shipping" service's pickup locations like? Do they send it everywhere? or am I gonna have to find a nearby pickup location?
>>2854182Yamato can hold luggage for 7 days, so they might be able to hold it in Tokyo for delivery to your second place.>Also what are this "bag shipping" service's pickup locations like?they deliver to hotels, some conbinis, and their own branch offices. Good hotels are able to receive luggage a day or two in advance of your stay.
How much time do you spend in the hotel room on an average day on a 2-4 week trip? A detailed breakdown would be appreciatedI'm wondering how my hotel time compares to other'sA basic day for me is wakeup and sit around a bit, maybe readGo get bullshit breakfast and then go back to hotel to bullshit, read, maybe a few pushupsGo get lunch, then maybe an aimless long walk or go to a cool store or place for coffee. Maybe stay out wandering until dinner, some days go hotel and read or play a hameGo get dinner and some days just wanna be alone so go hotel it up and eat snacks , maybe a movie or read some history or bullshit. If I feel like being outward and expansive, ill go find some live music or vinyl bar. Usually go on a decent nightwalk before bed around 12-2

Currenrly in Japan, first timer here but I'm doing a full tour. I must say for a country that has such a strong reputation in tech, it is quite underwhelming. Same phones, same systems, AI is literally decades behind what we have back home. Did I just get here too late or what's the deal?
>>2854261Did your country have AI decades ago?

>>2854374Depends if you want picturesque or just a change of scenery and staying urban. I'd recommend finding a good sushi/tempura place for lunch after getting off the train then having a leisurely trip up the mountain stopping at the obvious historic sites. >>2854473>I took an actual course in it>paying money to be told how to not be rudeThe only thing I got "in trouble" for was one time sitting in the wrong part of the shinkansen because I was in a hurry and one other time trying to grab a bowl of ramen out of the chef's hand because I thought he was handing it to me. >>2854724>Both times I just apologized and nobody cared.Wrong, they do care. But they won't say it to your face. There is a concept known as 空気を読む that is tantamount to understanding social interactions. >>2854759Living in Japan isn't for everyone and it's important to point that out for people who lack context, but it certainly is for some people and you might be one of them. It's just best to really ask yourself if you loved being in Japan or if you loved being on vacation, seeing novel sights while not working and living out of hotels. I've spent 80 days a year every year for the past 3 years in Japan. I really do love it there, but I'd never want to work for a Japanese company as an example. Also, the homes aren't particularly small compared to most of the world, but for those of us from Burgerstan, their "huge" homes are on the smaller end of our "starter" homes and that takes a certain adjustment some people don't want to make. Just make sure you know what you're getting into and then go.

Landing at Haneda early afternoon Sunday, staying in Akasaka. Should I try public transit or just take a cab? Only have 1 carryon and a backpack
>>2855673>cab or trainsThe subway isnt that hard and you can always ask the cute lady working what ticket you need etc. But maybe if your tired, hungry and more retarded than me, and have $ to blow. The taxi would be cooler>>2855672>moms scared I will go to soaplands , eat sushi and dieJapans a good first trip, maybe its harder if your black though>>2855637>cheap air bnbWas it all digital communication and lockbox shit or did you meet the host? What was the cost?
>>2855675>Japans a good first trip, maybe its harder if your black thoughThankfully I'm white. She's worried that I'd have issues getting around and checking into hotels, which I don't agree with but I don't want her to be worried about it.
>>2855675>Was it all digital communication and lockbox shit or did you meet the host? What was the cost?it was about 1000 leafbucks for a month which is pretty cheap but the catch was that it was next to the train tracks.I did not meet the guy at all, the communication was done through airb&b and the key was in a lockbox. your experience may vary though.I will say that its easy to get an apartment that cheap outside of tokyo but if you plan to spend a lot of time in tokyo it is not really worth it. potential savings would be eaten up by transportation cost because a return trip to tokyo for me was 2000 JPY. if you do that every day it adds up. if you just plan on chilling in whatever town you go to then it is more worth it.
>>2855678Is she suggesting you go to Europe instead? Is explaining to her that the industry hires and helps english speakers stay in these hotels enough? Or is she just not being rational and is simply worried about her baby boy? Just tell her google maps has your back and that some anon told you it would be alright>>2855683Ok thanks. Were the train tracks outrageously loud? More importantly, did you invite any females over? "Come back 2 da crib baby"
>>2855628Most toilets in Japan have bidets. Are you holding in your pee and poop while you're in Japan? Or are you peeing and pooping outdoors?
>>2855678All hotels I went to the receptionist spoke English, or there was a check-in machine. Even a 30$ hotel in Kyoto the guy in his 60's could speak some form of English, only that his vocabulary was somewhat limited. The only dangers of Japan is figuring out the train system, but that was because I was rawdogging it with only following signs. Download Navitime and you'll be fine.
>>2855628They can stream my ass anywhere they want, so long as the toilet is comfortable I couldn't care less.
So, who runs the /jpg/ bots anywayJP government? Some random schizo?
>>2855675Gaijin are disliked at soaplands regardless of whether they're white, black, or Chinese because they tend to look down on the ladies and make unreasonable demands.
Anyone been to that "samurai restaurant" show thing? Is it any good?
>>2855733Could you please go into details that help explain the difference between a local using a soapland, and a gaijin using a soapland?
>>2855733???I just lie there and let them do their thing.
People who enjoy Japanese domestic hamburger chains may be pleased to find out that Dom Dom just got bought out by Swallow Holdings, Sugakiya, and Vegetech Co. What this means for you is that there is a chance Dom Dom will become as popular and widespread in Japan as MOS burger, instead of being relegated to obscure locations in Japan.https://x.com/domdom_pr/status/2012062059593445515https://domdomhamburger.com/
>>2855747the mascot is very cute
>>2855745Just lay back like a dead fish? What else happens?
How do I find a soapland in saitama?
>>2855673transit. cheaper and similar time.
>>2855734i'd give it an 8/10 its fun, i just went last october. theres like 4 or 5 acts with dancing singing lights acrobatics and japanese floats. buy your ticket on rakuten for the best discount.
>>2855747what the fuck is that blue sauce abomination
>>2855750they massage you then ride you
>>2855755Saitama's soapland districts are located in Omiya and Nishi-Kawaguchi.
>>2855773Ah pretty far from where I'm at, any that are particularly foreigner friendly?
>>2855776Nishikawaguchi is only about 30 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Keihin-Tohoku Line.
Where the fuck are the vape shops?
>>2855797they have 0 nic
>>2855798welp guess I'm smoking fags
>>2855780From Ueno to Nishikawaguchi via the Keihin-Tohoku Line in 20 minutes, From Ueno to Omiya via the Utsunomiya Line in 25 minutes.
>>2855747MOS is dogshit
>>2855757Thanks dawg, will do (book with rakuten, already did my hotels thru there didnt know it was good for stuff like this too)How about teamlabs? Not the one where you stand in water, the other one (goin in a few weeks, its gonna be winter, feel like that would be complicated in long pants)
luv me ebi burger simple as
>>2855855I was forced to go to TeamLabs because my mother wished to go but doesn't speak English nor Japanese. I wasn't very impressed. There were SOME cool rooms but it wasn't my cup of tea. However my mother absolutely loved it and despite visiting Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Kanazawa and multiple other cities she said it was the highlight of her trip. So if you're a normie it might be worth it. Be prepared for LOTS of indians though, if you care about that.
>>2855881>Be prepared for LOTS of indiansIm all for some casual racism, but are they as bad as chinese tour groups? I remember how annoying those fuckers were last time i was in nippon (in 2019)
>>2855883If I'm being honest, most of the rude people I saw were Japanese, not tourists, such as youth being loud and disruptive in trains, or old men throwing trash on the metro floor casually, or just outright ignoring me when asking a question politely. But there was an instance of an Indian man feeling himself to be the center of the world and monopolizing a special scenery viewing spot, and some indians leaning on a guardrail which had a sign directly under them saying not to lean on those. So it's kind of eh, hard to say. Tourists can be rude no matter the color, it's just that in India and China there are so many fucking people that inevitably you'll see more of them being bad tourists than say, German tourists or something.
>>2855813I love Freshness Burger.
>>2855883>in fujiyoshida to enjoy the fuji view and chill at onsens>decide to hit up arakumayama sengen park>take the train a couple stops up from my hotel>there is a sign in hindu>think "huh thats weird">start walking up to where the pagoda is>swarms of pajeets everywhere, constantly in the fucking way while I'm trying to climb the stairs>on the way back down there is an entire family of pajeets blocking off a torii gate for a picture, blocking anyone from getting pastbeautiful spot but I will never fucking return there
Any Japananon can comment on the cold-snap? Apparently its colder than usual this winter. I'm going in two days so i'm already locked in but still
>>2855672Yeah, I went there solo when I was 20 and it was a really nice trip and I didn't feel lost despite only knowing very basic phrases in Japanese. I did a bit of drinking, never felt unsafe or anything either. Go for it, dude!
>>2855912The whole time I've been here it's been so warm I've barely worn a jacket
>>2855912From now until the end of February is the dead of winter, the coldest season.
>>2855672Yeah go solo, i did it first time when i was 24.You've already got more experience than i did.Use trip.com or booking.com for hotels, book the shinkansen on the same day, use a suica card, ezpz. Transport is in english too, food can be autism friendly and cheap. Ask any and all questions in the threads.
>>2855891>ackshully the japanese are the rude onesPost hand, jeet. Also the shittiest tourists are french.
So I've been told that for japan every time you reenter you get another 90 days, regardless of how long you stayed outside (like 1 day or whatever). I don't plan to do this more than once but I was wondering does it make a difference if you buy a roundtrip ticket from japan? Or do you basically need to be on two one way tickets otherwise they think you were planning to "exploit" the system so to speak?
>>2855747arent those the ones who made the camembert burger?
>>2855944Don't know how the system works exactly but I had a buddy who stayed for a few months, flew to Korea for a weekend, then returned for another couple of months with no issues. As far as tickets go they did not even check mine when entering the country so I would assume you would be fine.
>>2855962For developed countries, visa exemptions are granted for up to 90 days per visit, totaling 180 days per year, so it's a loophole used by people who want to stay in Japan longer.
>>2855891In 2025, Indian visitors to Japan numbered around 300,000, accounting for less than 1% of all visitors to Japan.
>>2855944You get another 90 but there's a yearly total cap regardless so you can't just dip out ever 90 days forever.
>>2855921The only real danger is the rip-off bars in Shinjuku. Areas like San’ya and Airin are safe zones by global standards.
>>2855912the temperatures are spring-esque (for where I live) in Tokyo
>>2855928>>2855929>>2855989Not that anon, but if I wore jeans, a shell jacket (fit for windy and rainy weather), a beanie and a warm mid-layer would that be enough for late Feb. - early March? I do have a couple of winter jackets, but seems like they could be overkill.
>>2856000 In Tokyo or Osaka, you don't need to wear long underwear. However, Kyoto is a basin, so it gets quite chilly in the mornings and evenings.
I think this is japanese but the characters look more chinese. does anyone know what it says?
>>2856081開運御守Good luck charm
New bread>>2855970>>2855970>>2855970
>>2855967>>2855977ah thats fine, I would only want to do it once anyway. Probably wouldn't stay longer than 5 months.
Goodbye!
