I wish they would do a full adaptation of Nausicaa. The movie doesn't do the story or the characters justice at all. Mononoke is my favorite still because that was the first one I saw. I loved Grave of the Fireflies when I was younger but watching the movie as a parent made me furious. Sasuke killed his little sister because of his pride. He should have grovelled and stayed with the aunt. My most enjoyable watch is The Cat Returns. It's just a fun adventure movie, similar to The Princess Bride. It has no pretensions of being a moral story, it's just about a girl who's in over her head and finally realises she's not a kid anymore. The best overall is Howl's Moving Castle. The music, the story, the characters, it all ties in great in a wonderful package. I tried watching Ponyo with my son and it was almost traumatising for him when the little fish ran away from her father. He couldn't watch after that. It really is a terrible story when you break it down like that.
