The original Avatar was soulless trash so I haven’t bothered with a deeper dive into the retardation. I think a lot of people are similarly bored with shallow visual spectacle and are looking for a return to character-driven pieces with a sense of realism and a ‘lived-in’ feel. I feel the same way about BR2049 and DUNC, these are not good adaptations of the source material. I look forward to the imminent death of the ‘hyper blockbuster’ and a return to an auteur-based system where 10-15 movies can be made for the price of one Avatar and the cinema-going public once again has a wide range of choice in viewing options.
