Remember when people thought the internet would make it easy to find information and shit but now it's less trouble to find a physical copy?
>>
Prime has the best selection of movies on any streaming service though if you are into the golden age of the 70s. I have seen many movies on there that are only available on oop boutique blu rays or are just put out by some studio for a month before disappearing.
>>
>>213945517
still harder to find physical shit on amazon than it used to be.

I would expect users of this site to have basic computer literacy like being able to watch shows and movies without paying
>>
I'm not asking for it be a huge collection, just please buy literally any DVDs. Its the most convenient thing ever and have it forever. I don't even care if its like Ghost Dad or Home Alone 3 or some random shit, just get some DVDs, you won't regret it. You might even find a movie you're looking for.
>>
The ads aren't even intrusive. You get like two ad breaks per movie and that's it.
>>
>>213945712
i only buy obscure straight to video 90s releases
>>
>>213945653
>of purchases from other streaming services, yeah.

Yeah but they are available on prime for periods of time without buying through the sub service. I have seen movies like The Hospital, Who'll Stop the Rain or Busting which were hard to see at various times. The other streaming services are too busy with original stuff and hardly every put movies on including new blockbusters. You can watch Jaws or the Matrix for the umpteenth time if you want tho.
>>
I have Prime (without the BS video upgrade) and just stream all the shows bootleg style. Pay streaming is an absolute joke.

The thing about DVDs though is that they knew this very well, that people will find a way to watch it for free, which is why DVDs started having much more bonus content. They'd actually give you solid reasons why owning the movie would be better and treated you with some respect. They don't really give you anything to sweeten the deal anymore, or any bonus shit for buying the movie at all for that matter. Totally soulless.
>>
I've been watching Alien: Earth with my mom and her husband. For the first two episodes I pirated it and brought it over, then we learned it was on Disney+ which they have. So we tried watching this week's episode that way and bros... I shit you not... there were at least 5 three minute long ad breaks on their PAID service. We all agreed to just go back to having me pirate it from now on. That shit is RIDICULOUS
>>
>>213945980
DVDs also had fun custom navigation menus. I don't think they really do that much with Blurays anymore? I dunno I've never owned Bluray.

Mine might be glitched because I don't get ads, even on ones where it says there's ads.
>>
>>213945719
All ads are intrusive. It doesn't matter if there's 2 or 200, it's the principal of paying and still having to put up with that shit.

When was the last time anyone was convinced to buy something because they saw a TV ad for it anyways?

>>213945654
There’s honestly a lot of niche stuff that you can’t find torrents for tbf
>>
>>213946226
The only thing that makes some of these streaming services worth any money at all is access to sports. Other than that, their business models are to trick people into paying for a GUI that allows for actual purchases. It's downright evil.
>>
>>213945980
I remember one of the features some movies did on the DVD release was the ability to view a scene from a different angle. Which now you can’t access whatsoever if you find those same movies on streaming
>>
>>213946266
Brother you can find absolutely anything if you know where to look. There's nothing so niche that one torrent site or another direct download archive site won't have stored away.

If you DARE stop or rewind the film on any of these streaming services, be prepared for glitches that force you to watch commercials and then to kick you in the nuts after that it further refuses to show the part you wanted to see.

Yup, there'd be all kinds of animations, footage playing from the movie, sometimes even original footage filmed just for the dvd menu, you might even get to see a cutscene where you move to the next room to see the next menu. But it just slowly got lazier and more generic and you could literally see it happening. Compare The Grinch (2000)s DVD menu to the 2018 one, that's an 18 year difference and there's no contest as to which is more visually appealing and contained more content, and that's not even me comparing the movies themselves, just their menu select.

Not entirely true and for the part of them that are, they're usually lies. I tried to stream a "1080p Blu-ray rip" of a film the other day and it was clearly a lie, as it was sub-480p.
Then having a server crash or give you trouble is fun.

I'm going to let you all in on a secret, I shouldn't be saying this but whatever
>get real-debrid
>sideload stremio on your tv
>sign into your real-debrid account
>stream ANYTHING for like 4$ a month

What is real-debrid?
They have their own dedicated servers that act as a proxy between you and torrents. Once you add it to stremio, you can stream torrents directly through your TV.

And it has literally every resolution, the only limit is the torrents themselves.

True, that's probably the worst aspect of DVDs, they had to get their unskippable ads in somewhere. It sucks you have to go through that everytime you want to watch the movie, but I still prefer that over ads that outright interrupt the film and that you have to see multiple times.
>>
>>213945402
>what the fuck is going on
everything we warned you about when we warned you about streaming

>>213947261
There are players that are able to skip those otherwise unskippable parts.
Another option is on the software side; I used to have disc cloning software that stripped the part that prevented skipping.

People complaining about streaming service ads forget about the unskippable movie trailers DVDs had. Doesn't matter what it is, ads will be forced into it because advertising is what really runs the fucking world sadly

I guess I will, since I'd rather not lose my internet (they have done it before) and I'd rather have permanent access to the files. Plus curating my own service is fun. I can live with a half dozen tb of pirated content for 9.99 every few months whenever I need it.
