What are some films like The Swimmer?
I ended up watching Catherine Breillat's Last Summer last night, a remake of the Danish flick Queen of Hearts (2019). Apparently Kim Gordon also did the music which was neat (shout out to Charlottebro). Irene Jacob's son plays a 17 year old who begins dicking down his 50 year old stepmom for one reason or another and things get predictably complicated/sexy.There's a whole post I could write about the hypocrisy of Lea Drucker's character and how retarded the stepson was, but I'll end it here at the risk of spoilers. Decent film if you aren't bothered by the subject matter.

Where the person is having a crisis but the cinematic veneer presents like everyone is normal and OK because you only see that person’s perspective until it starts to fall away to the truth. >>213951028Got a bunch of mainstream choices, sorry/not sorry.>Studio Ghibli retrospectiveI know some snobs are gonna >anime me, but as an old fag one of my fondest memories is discovering the films of Studio Ghibli during a retrospective in London in 99, back when they were still an obscure Japanese curio. I remember watching four films in one day and my bum being kinda numb by the end of the day because I'd been sitting down so long and the seats weren't super comfortable. But it was a fantastic experience seeing all their films up to that point on the big screen. I wasn't big on Totoro but the reactions of the Japanese kids watching the film with their parents at the screening was amazing, they way they "ooooo!" and "waaaah!" -ed as the nekobus came onto the screen. 25 years later, I still remember it.>The MatrixHonestly, blew my mind as a kid. I desperately needed to go to the toilet for the last 20/30 minutes but I was so into the action I sat there holding it and trying not to wet myself.>Inception Great flick and the "WTF! Noooo!" that went up at the end when the film cuts to credits as the spinner goes round was a reaction I've never seen since at a public screening. Great stuff.>ManhattanWatched this on a grey, drizzly Sunday at the ICA and it was great. A perfect film for that mood. It was my first Woody Allen movie and gave me the wrong impression that most of his movies would be this funny.>The ExorcistOne of those experiences you can only have as a kid, getting excited about scary movies. I remember this one having a special frisson of excitement because it got a cinema release in the UK for the first time after the "video nasties" era. So not only did it have a reputation as one of the best horror films, but it was back after being banned/restricted, which naturally made it even more exciting.
>>213953774I agree totoro sucks most overrated ghibli shitWhy do the trannies like it so much
>>213953774As a bonus, worst experience:>The Blair Witch Project Watching this from the second row of a packed cinema was fucking awful. Craning my neck up, watching the constantly juddering camerawork from 10-feet away on the huge screen gave me a tremendous headache and put me off found-footage horror films for life

I have an effort post (hoorayyyy)Rewatched Teshigahara's The Man Without a Map earlier. I was happy to get the Bluray remux that was only on KG. My experience was much different than the 1gb dvdrip file I saw in 2020. I think this film is actually a major work from Teshigahara and on the same level as Woman in the Dunes, (and possibly even greater than The Face of Another). This one is more of a vibes focused movie compared to the narrative driven films starting with Pitfall. The little plot it had was very coy and elusive. The previous copy I had I now realize was written with horribly translated and subtitles that had zero nuance. At least now the themes were much more clear thanks to whoever did the new subs. I strongly urge Teshigahra fans to seek this one out. The theme is getting lost in mystery. A simple mystery with very little stakes that spirals into further chaos and an existential crisis. The film felt like a landscape for the mind. The protagonist getting absorbed in the urban city landscape (similar to how landscapes are used in Woman in the Dunes and Pitfall). Loved this film. Will rewatch it again soon probably
One of the greatest triumphs of 21st century cinema.
>>213954286RAre post of some value.
>>213953799>totoro sucks Cringe opinion but I understand it comparing it to the rest of their filmography, it's a middling entry.>most overratedThat would easily be Spirited Away, arguably the most overrated film ever made.
>>213955420Nah, hell nah. Spirited Away is their best.
>>213955508>Spirited Away is their best.It would be if they didn't derail the highly immersive world and plot of Chihiro every ten minutes to focus on some random bishonen faggot and then rush to the conclusion. For Ghibli, my favs will always be between Grave Of The Fireflies, Wind Rises, and Only Yesterday. I should say though that i watched years ago with those subs you alluded to. Have you seen the later, historical/folk Teshigaharas?
>>213958849>Whisper of the HeartBased, I rank it alongside Nausicaa/Mononoke/Laputa. It's pure, timeless, innocent neo-Capra kino I put in the same category as October Sky or The Straight Story. Much like Porco Rosso, I think it warrants attention for being some of the only Ghibli that wears American influences on its sleeves.>MononokeA certified hood classic that nobody can deny, it's the Japanese Braveheart without any of the historicity concerns that keep Braveheart from soaring as a film>Porco RossoI really do love it though I think it lacks the depth or incredible visuals needed to really put it on the level of something like Whisper or Mononoke. I always saw it as being a sort of parody of Ernest Hemingway, because the dialogue and characterizations reminded me a lot of Hemingway's stories about Italy and Spain. I put it in the same category as Kiki's or Totoro's, though I do think it deserves some recognition for being one of Miyazaki and Ghibli's few male-oriented titles. Also, fuck European commies/trannies for appropriating this film to the point of outright misrepresentation. It's not a remotely leftist film, it's more of a weirdly libertarian or Ayn Rand-type rugged individualist narrative. >From Up on Poppy HillDefinitely a more interesting film than their usual flair, I just think they should have delved a little more into the politics of the time because 1960s Japanese leftism was wild even by the standards of the time. For me, it's Ocean Waves when it comes to their most obscure movies. It's one of the best and most prescient films ever made about young male loneliness imo, as well as the madness of young women.>>213959049>Haku is deep, Zoom ZoomHow so? There's nothing really emotionally or thematically relevant about him imo, he just takes up space and time that'd much better be suited to Chihiro's predicament and fleshing out the crazy setting and characters she interacts with.

>>213959315I've got a fun story about Whisper Of The Heart for you guys.Last year, I made a serious attempt to join the French Foreign Legion. I spent over a year physically preparing for it, learning as much French as I could (I even visited Montreal for a week before Christmas to immerse myself in it), and I spent a ton of time with my family while I was also getting my degree. I also decided to basically watch almost every single movie I could think of from 2023-24, constantly going to theaters and watching it on streaming/pirating. Ghibli was something I especially revisited because Ghiblifest in 2023/4 had their best rosters of movies, and I grew up on a lot of their films but hadn't seen them since I was a kid. So I watched nearly all of them in that time, starting with Wind Rises in anticipation for Boy and the Heron (I loved it immensely, WR is my favorite Miyazaki and one of my all-time favorite films period, one of the handful of kinos to move me to tears). I rewatched Spirited Away and introduced it to my little brother on a steamy summer night when I babysat him; we had stuffed crust pizza and strawberry ramune with mochi for dessert (it's a memory of his I know he'll never forget, much like when I saw it the first time as a kid on a rainy day eating oriental ramen because my family were poorfags), Nausicaa I saw for the 40th anniversary with my normie friend (it was the last time I saw him or any of my friends back home), and Laputa was the last movie I saw in theaters before I left Minnesota for AZ (incredible experience, truly sui generis film with no parallels). But anyway, Whisper of the Heart was elusive. At first, I tried to watch it at my Grandpa's cabin after watching getting hammered and Totoro and PR the two nights before and right after watching Only Yesterday at the drunkest I'd ever been, but I passed out two minutes in because the song serended me to sleep. 1/2
Umaru demands you stop talking about anime
>>2139596002/2Then I watched it in AZ the night before I left for France and a night after watching Beau Travail, but the internet was fucked and I only watched about a third of it (it's the part where she gets to the antique store and the oldfag tells her about the cat baron and the clock). I spent an hour fucking with the internet and got nowhere, so I just went to bed and left for France in the morning.I didn't finish it until I got back from France and I was dealing with really serious, potentially life-threatening medical stuff that made me enfeebled and houseridden for a month getting back. I finished the movie, and found its message about the nature of youth and inexperience to be really motivating and perfect for what I'd just been through. I related a lot to the central story surrounding the kid going to Cremona to study being a Luthier and getting booted out after a couple of weeks, it was the perfect film for the literal shitstorm I was in, and felt like the perfect encapsulation of that phase of my life.

>>213960982How old are you, Spikefag? Are you a Zoomie like me?>>213960883>still the best children's movie ever made in my opinionI think it depends on the type of kid you are and wehre you're from. For example, I grew up in a tight family I loved and always did stuff outdoors with them growing up in the Minnesota; so I loved Arrietty, Totoro, and Ponyo for really capturing the essence of what I felt like were places, stories, and themes that spoke to me. I also loved old Disney, especially Bambi, Robin Hood, The Jungle Book, and Peter Pan for having those outdoors adventure elements as well. I think Spirited Away on the other hand is something that people from more broken/distant families can relate to, as well as kids that are more sheltered. I will say though, I really related to it and understood that film on a deeper level when I went to France and was at the FFL base in Aubagne. The architecture was eclectic and colorful, the people were from everywhere and had all sorts of bizarre mannerisms and behaviors foreign to me (I had never met people from Nepal, Madagascar, Belarus, Japan, the Central African Republic, Argentina, The Netherlands, or Serbia until I went there), the officers were all sorts of wild and colorful characters from around the globe with different shapes and sizes, and you had to do different types of elaborate menial bitch work all around (such as bucket brigading watering all the plants every night under the watchful eye of a crazed, elderly, heavily accented Taiwanese gardener that wears only a boonie hat and a flight suit who curses in a mix of mispronounced Spanish and creative racial slurs).I will say though, I would have LOVED Castle In The Sky more than anything if I had watched it as a kid. I was actually feeling a weird form of jealousy leaving the theater, bothered that Japanese gen-Xers and Milennials grew up with it while everyone else around the world missed out.

I just can't see this as a succesful film.what's the point of the love triangles? this would be a better film if there was less characters and thus less detour-plotlines. Why should I care about Edwige and Alberte's drama with Charles? they just seem like irrelevant detoursFemme douce, Four nights and L'argent are all more dense, patient and better.

>In a 2018 podcast interview, Breillat made controversial remarks on Asia Argento, who had starred in her 2007 film The Last Mistress, saying that she didn't believe her accusations of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein and calling Argento a "servile" and promiscuous woman who engaged in "semi-prostitution". Breillat also said that she didn't approve of the #MeToo movement Argento had participated in, and that Weinstein's downfall was a "loss" for the European film industry. Argento responded by calling Breillat "the most sadistic and downright evil director [she had] ever worked with".[18]

>>213972592You really should, you'd make a killing with how rapidly the population is aging combined with the fact that anal sex is at an all-time high. It's a bull market if you have an angle.
>>213973112Bobby D is/was a handsome guy but he looked disturbing in that film
>>213973259Good points.Anal sucks; I don't want no poop on my dingaling.
>>213972704>In August 2024, actress Caroline Ducey, in an interview with the magazine Le Nouvel Obs, accused Breillat of directing male actors to perform unsimulated sex acts upon her against her will during the filming of Romance.[19] Ducey published a memoir, La Prédation (nom féminin) ["Predation: Feminine Noun"] in which she detailed her allegations.[20] According to Ducey, Breillat demanded that her co-star François Berléand penetrate her digitally on camera, which Berléand refused to do. Ducey stated that actor Reza Habouhossein performed oral sex on her at Breillat's command.[21] In an earlier investigation by IndieWire, Ducey had told the journalist that she was able to prevent the actor from penetrating her.[22]Pedo Rapists defend pedo rapists. (This is how I know Asia is innocent of roiping that boy because Breillat would become an ardent defender of her like other members of the rapist pedo club).
>>213951028just marathoned oslo 31 august. the part at the end where they party and go around the city at night hit me in the feels.https://youtu.be/GLNmpkuAEr8?feature=shared
>>213971355Sucks that he's dealing with cancer right now . Poor guy hasn't had a good break since the 90s .
>>213973426>Anal sucksSomething I find interesting about anal is that it seems like far more people are into receiving rather than giving, and givers are largly neutral towards it in contrast. People that fantasize about giving anal are usually those who have never done it and don't know what it's like or how laborious it is, because if they did they'd know vaginal or oral sex is far, far better in terms of both feeling and intuitiveness (also smell, because even when a colon is clean it has that smell to it).
>>213973918I agree, but receiving is also terrible imo. I've played with putting my little finger in and even that is uncomfortable af, even though the orgasms can be really good. I unironically think you'd have to be a masochist to really enjoy receiving anal.

>>213974221Letter to Jeffrey Epstein is sus af. Grooming a 7 year old child into marrying him is turbo sus
>>213974262The letter is extremely funny. It's him complaining about the food and calling Epstein a weirdo. He didn't groom anyone. They only got close when she was an adult. You could say Manhattan is sus and then I'd have no counterargument, but he, legally speaking, hasn't done anything wrong.
>>213974087>tranny and my favourite is PorcoDo you guys like it just for that one throwaway line he says in a tongue in cheek tone to his friend in the regia aeronautica at the kinoplex? Or have you guys actually watched it and genuinely like the movie? I'm curious about this phenomenon/tendency amongst your ilk.>>213973968>I unironically think you'd have to be a masochist to really enjoy receiving anal.Yeah I don't ever finger my asshole or do anything like that, it's incredibly uncomfortable and unintuitive. And there's also the fact that I'm just plain not sexually attracted to men or have any homoerotic tendencies either. However, I will say that receiving anal from a girl (an actual biological female, not a fucking tranny) is incredibly hot. You need to be with a smarter girl you've been close to for a while, because a dumber girl won't get any enjoyment out of it and think you're just a weird fag; but if you're in the right place with the right girl, it's really great. People think it's a femdom or a latent gay thing, but it's far more often than not the opposite.
>>213974345Have you read the letter? He's constantly glazing Epstein lol

>>213974401ESL moment
>>213974439>I think my ass would be on fire after thatImmediately after it is, but usually it's not as bad because the dildo is smooth and well-lubricated. Girls also do a lot more foreplay than fags do (from what I've heard from fags on here and irl), so it's overall an easier and more intuitive experience. And pegging in general is just in a completely different ballpark as an experience than male/male anal with for several other reasons too. It's a once in a while thing you do.I couldn't imagine being a fag taking straight up unlubricated dicks every other day though, that's disgusting and I can only imagine what that does to your insides.
this namefaggot literally sits on 4chan all day and writes reams and reams of off topic garbage
>>213974450>>213974489He's joking about the food and glazing Jeff for putting up a Diddy party. But anyway, wasn't Woody in like 10 Epstein flights or something? Couldn't care less, his comments on Brooke Shields are as transparent as one can get in admitting pedophilia. Dude's a 1000% a creep; he even looks the part: no balls, nerdy ass mf, probably a bullying victim in his childhood years, etcetera.

Do you think that would've impacted the movie positively or negatively if that were in it, /film/?
>>213974757No redemption > redemption. Lil bro just forced his christian beliefs on the novel; fuck that shit.
>>213968762Tell me a single thing a nigga can find on xitter but not on PTP+KG.
>>213974791>Lil bro just forced his christian beliefs on the novel; fuck that shit.In all fairness the redemption arc hits differently for me and others given my Dad was a member of a gang in the 90s and later had his own redemption arc around the time he got married. But I get why people want Alex to get fucked given he did such awful shit for so long and faced little to no consequences, so I get both povs.
