the disappointing thing about what happened to angel is that it's kind of undeserved. david zayas has fuck all else going on probably so i don't see why they didn't write a better arc for him.first of all, i don't really buy why he's got such a hard on for dexter. angela told him that dexter is alive which is just surprising more than anything. then, finding needle marks on some junkies is circumstantial at best and in no way proves the bhb is active. batista already went to bat for dexter in the og series so i don't really buy that he's been brooding about dexter/bhb all this time.secondly, they immediately shoe horned angel into interrogating and pursuing dexter. there was maybe about 10 seconds of them eating sandwiches and reminiscing before all the layers of subterfuge set in. it would have felt better if angel tried to rekindle their friendship or something and keep an eye on him from afar. while angel can have some background suspicions, there's literally nothing substantiative for him to go on at any pointand finally, they make batista look like a bumbling moron. his master plan is to blindly track dexter with his airpods and accidentally ends up at one of his kill rooms.... which leads to jack shit. the detectives assume angel is giga retarded and immediately dismiss him. it would be more believable to have the nypd detectives back batista based on the ryan foster case than it would be for batista to back angela based on her shitty "evidence". he gets his badge taken away like a kid who has been naughty. and then he just winds up over his head. the last hurrah of angel batista is to just try to strangle dexter. like comon, nothing connects at all. it's like someone in the writer's room decided at some point>he wouldn't it be cool if we had a character come back to dredge up the bhb case and try to get dexter for itand they just forced into the story without any consideration for the characters

Just finished episode 9This season is better than most of the original show save Season 1. That said they left a lot of good drama on the table because the turn of Prater and Charley finding out who Dexter is just happens too fast .As far as the ending of the episode Batista doesn’t show enough shades of gray towards who Dexter used to be, ie his friend, and is just too far in angryperson territoryThe story book ending I would’ve done is it culminates in crazy Batista being vindicated, Dexter choosing to kill Prater via political assassination and then dying, lady cop saving the day, and Dexter’s final moments showing Harrison he has the power to choose the right path. You’d need another season or two to do it right but instead they kinda flush their cards in one move
