Can any kind of horror be kino? What about torture porn?
>>
>>214115606
I avoid "torture porn" in almost all cases, but there is a certain way of doing it which is acceptable to me.
I need to be paid if I am going to explain it.

thought this was pretty kino

Torture porn is not scary, therefore it is not horror in my eyes. It's just gross. At some point you must ask yourself, is this even entertainment?
>>
>>214115606
Ever heard of a little movie called THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
>>
>>214116026
>not scary, therefore it is not horror in my eyes
RETARD
The Thing is also not scary and one of the best horror movies ever.
>>
>>214116026
people are desensitizing themselves so anything that triggers that gut wrench feeling seems exciting
>>
>>214116026
>>214116084
no horror films are scary unless you're an actual child or a downs syndrome adult. basing the whole genre around whether something is scary or not is completely retarded. it's also like saying a farcical movie isn't a comedy because you didn't laugh. doesn't matter. if people are running around getting into absurd ironic situations, it's a comedy, and if people are confronting their own mortality and vulnerability then it's a horror, regardless of what some slackjawed faggot has to say about the lack of jump scares or whatever moronic further hoop the movie has to jump through.
>>
>>214116026
It's called horror and torture is horrifying
>>
>>2141166>>214116084
>The Thing is also not scary
>>214116646

"Scary" just means that it causes you a sense of tension, anxiety, fear as an emotion when watching the film and anticipating the next event. Horror is focused on evoking those emotions on top of broader questions that cast doubt into the minds of the audience.
>if people are confronting their own mortality and vulnerability then it's a horror
This is correct, and that's different then just showing splatter on screen and expecting a "be shocked and disgusted" reaction.

Always hated the horror genre. It just makes me feel bad. That's not what entertainment is for. That's what the news is for.
And the writing is always terrible.
>>
>>214117242
See the problem with that is that torture porn is just producing squeamish feelings for the sake of discomfort, while good actual horror like the thing is actually titillating and dramatic and lets your brain do half the work because of the tension and uncertainty.
People that watch saw and other "movies" like that never grew out of being those edgy tubby wigger fifth graders that thought the height of entertainment and coolness was to watch liveleak vids at recess because it made them look "mature". Fuck you kevin you fat fuck
>>
Torture porn, and human killers in general, don't really scare me, it just makes me angry, which isn't the objective of a horror movie.
The antagonist of the horror movie needs to be some sort mythical being, or esoteric shit, (something I can't kill with a gun) for me to be scared.
>>
>>214118783
This.
Also I don't watch any modern horror.
>>
>>214115606
I spit on your grave could be considered revenge torture kino if you wanted
>>
>>214118783
This is what pissed me off in Barbarian. One downy terrorized a town for years because apparently nobody in the usa owns a gun.
>>
>>214119578
>One downy terrorized a town for years because apparently nobody in the usa owns a gun.
No one in DETROIT owned a gun, that's what made it even more absurd. That downy would have been shot by a gangbanger or captured or turned into their sex slave.

Edgy anti-kino can be kino if it upsets enough people
>>
Torture porn and found footage are incredibly lazy film making. Torture porn is always the creators barely disguised fetish and found footage is always "we had an idea but couldn't afford to make into a real movie."

These are indisputable facts.
>>
>>214120560
I'll never understand the mixture of horror and fetish. The horror shit completely ruins the fetish shit.

The fetish can be the violence itself. Or some specific aspects of it. Or just "peril" in general, broadly speaking.
>>
For me the scariest horror is existential. Lake Mungo stuck with me for months, and weirdly, the numbers from Lost freak me out.

Is there torture kino where cute girls are realistically tortured for most of the movie?

>and the whole thing falls apart
Not if *that*'s your fetish.
Also, while regular people who aren't into this stuff might disagree based on their apparent perception, in fact it's not very common for movies to portray detailed graphic violence against girls. With some exceptions here and there, moviemakers typically make the viewers *worry* about the female characters who are in some physical danger, but most commonly the male characters get far more brutal treatment, or at least the female characters get their treatment largely off-screen, with the scene cutting away and stuff like that. Or some combo of the two approaches. Mainstream viewers like the thrill of worrying about the hot chick likely getting murdered, but they don't like the sight of that happening.
>>
>>214117667
I like horror movies with happy endings or at least some survivors. If everyone dies and the villain gets away it's like the entire story was a waste of time.
>>
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is as close to kino as it's gotten.

Torture porn is the same level as exploitation film.
>>
Is Human Centipede torture porn?
>>
>>214115962
Some seriously dark shit. Solid 9/10.
