Why do the other Crow movies suck testicules?
This respected the source comic as much as it could. Also Brandon Lee really wanted this to be his breakout role.

An entire character, the mentor and crow avatar, was cut, turning Draven's tutelage into something more like spiritual instinct, as though he were being guided by a spirit animal instead of taught in a training montage.The focus was more on Sarah and her abusive relationship with her mother, and how Draven sought to repair that along with taking revenge on Shelly's and his own murder.The whole thing made the movie feel a lot more personal.None of the sequels had that or could even understand it I imagine.
