i usually hate things more than the average person, especially sequels, but this movie i liked back then and everyone seems to hate it for some reason. that's my blog entry for today

Manhunter is the only film based on this IP that I somewhat like
>>
I'm watching 16 Blocks right now
It was never considered one of Bruce Willis' best
But it's still an order of magnitude better than anything out now
>>
It was judged against the silence of the lambs and fell short

I found the Simpsons Sideshow Bob episodes much more enjoyable and same for the last Hannibal movie starring the young french kid.

The Hannibal in venice really did not feel like it was him from his POV neither did it fulfill any of the amazing trickery he did in the Silence of the Lambs film.

If Manhunter, Dragonhunter/Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs could all combine into 1 movie then it would be the greatest thriller detective movie ever told.

Also what did you all think of Hannibal's backstory? personally I think the concept is amazing even if everyone kept yelling "You can't give him a sad backstory like every other villain have, for that matter you shouldn't give him a backstory at all."

This shit was trash, especially if you've read the book. Changing the ending for what may as well have been PG audiences was unforgivable

What was the book ending?

In the ending sequence when Hannibal has captured Clarice, instead of cutting of his own hand and releasing her he effectively mindfucks her by drugging her heavily and imprinting himself on her.
The book ends with the security guard that used to watch over Hannibal in the mental hospital seeing him from a distance at the entrance of an Opera in Argentina with Starling, her arm intertwined with Hannibal's as they walk into the event together.
He mind rapes her puts her into this confused fugue like state where she believes Hannibal is her lover/father figure.
In the movie he just lets her because of what I'm certain was executive meddling afraid that the ending would be too dark or confusing or audiences

That sounds pretty trashy itself. We're obviously not dealing with high literature here.

Something that has always annoyed me is this idea that Hannibal is a master of psychology who can turn people into his acolytes. The Mads Mikkelsen TV series was all about this. It makes for some entertainingly soapy melodrama, I suppose, but it's a million miles from the reality of serial killers. Most of them are rapey retards who can scarcely control themselves, never mind other people.
