Demerzel. Human beings have dreams. Even dogs have dreams, but not you, you are just a machine. An imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a... canvas into a beautiful masterpiece?

I have a theory. It's Demerzel child or lover and when Demerzel finds out that the people did that cult. She'll go ballistic and slaughter every single person including empire while dusk is watching.

Pretty sure it's one of the easier effects. Without going into a full breakdown, her in the mural is effectively just a filter. Add in the yellow glow outline, and then overlay the moving grain on top.
Then when she exits the mural, remove the filters and provide a different (more natural) colour-grade altogether which makes it look disconnected but you don't have to film it separately and try to match the movements up.

Not sure what it is, but this season somehow managed to escape slop territory and is pretty gud so far
>>
>>214134046
The Mule is pretty cringe. Toran can't act and the schtick with Bayta is cringe but she's aight.
They massacred the traders vs foundation plot.
Gaal continues to be clueless and everything she's involved with is maximally cringe.
The "sudden twists" with the Mule are confusing and lack impact.
The whole espionage shit is poorly directed and goofy.
Vault Hari continuing to be a total jackass that knows nothing and does nothing (he outsourced his job to Demerzel because why? was that going to be the Second Foundation plot until they made writing changes for season 3?)

Funny enough the cringe robot shroom wizard kind of kicks ass.
The "interpretive dance to tell you our history before we execute you" was fucking gay.

Other than that, the season has actually been pretty good.
>>
>>214134046
yeah the show is improving season to season
but still the best part was s1 empire
>>

>>
>>214135479
>Mule is pretty cringe
I like him
I think to many people still have PTSD from GOT kek, him having a similar character to Greyjoy
>>
It's actually really good. Season 1 was mostly a dud outside of the first episode and the last ones with Day getting revenge on the assassins. Then season 2 improved a lot and had some great content and finally the black womyn who couldn't act (Salvor) was killed off thank god.

And now season 3 has been actually fantastic so far, it's clearly the best sci-fi show you can watch right now and is miles ahead of anything else.
>>

>>
>>214135890

Huh? S2 was slop overload. S1 was half kino half cringe, mainly due to the emperors and hari plotlines.
>>
What is this show about? I just see webms of Lee Pace half-naked and then apparently the protag is some chosen one black woman who saves the day from injustice?

Please tell me I'm wrong and that there's more, higher quality stuff to it.

Sci-fi about empire that controls the galaxy until one scientist precious that it will fall using statistics on steroids
This leads to the empire doing a Heckin self fulfilling prophecy, by exiling said scientist to a distant planet, kickstarting a massive century spanning conflict spanning the entire galaxy
The story is told mostly through the eyes of the emperors, which are just repeating clones of themselves, said scientist who turned himself into a hologram, and scientists assistant who keeps getting cryochambered every few years or so
>>
>>214135890
>Season 1 was mostly a dud
The episode where the first Dusk ascends is still the most kino episode of the show

>>
>>214136197
That would be a cool show. Nothing but stuff like the religion/sand planet stuff with Cleon fucking over everyone nobrakes.

I honestly believe the plan in S2 was for Ignis to become Gaia and Hari gave Demerzel the Prime Radiant and Empire would become the Second Foundation. But then they pulled their head out of their ass for Season 3, or perhaps they couldn't figure out how to make Magnifico work with Ignis-Gaia and gave up on it.
>>
>>214136197
I don't think a show without Demarzel and the Cleon trio would work. Empire itself is extremely boring and barebones without them. I mean, a galactic empire that is crippled by the loss of a few hundred ships that aren't even big by sci-fi standards? Who actually administers it and where is the staff?

>>
>>214136144

It's actually got a relatively small budget (or did for s1and2 at least). A fraction of something like Severance or GoT. They just have very competent producers and I guess plan the vfx very carefully.

He did help the old pilgrim as much as he could until the end though, he was not 100% faking it and also he showed distress when remembering he didn't have a vision, that was interesting character writing.

>but they already had the technology to use warp drives with "human brains". we saw it with the old flag ship but somehow they totally forgot that

The novels have 8 crisis. We have seen 3 crisis so far (mule is third crisis in the show, 5th in the books) it's one crisis per season so far so 8 seasons make sense.

I think we will keep the current cast so they will have to write the empire characters into relevancy when empire stops existing in future seasons if they don't change things.

To be honest the books peaked at the mule so they might decide to change things for the show to keep things interesting afterwards.
>>
>>214141239
Empire and demerzel are show creations. The youtubers though? Book canon characters, including their quirky personalities. The book feels more like the reddit quirk couple than it does to the Empire part.

Honestly they should have dropped the Foundation plotline the moment they realized they struck gold with the cleonic dynasty + demerzel setup and just have an original show instead.
>>
>>214141616
the "youtubers" are kinda funny and cool addition especially if they're from the books.
i hope the robots will rise up as another faction. foundation 1 is whatever. foundation 2 is cool enough to join the fight
>>
>>214141572
yeah but even the books turn into slop later on.
the latter crises are basically (yes i WILL spoiler because it's boring)
>ok so we defeated the mule but ackchually the second foundation is EVIL!!!
>ok so we defeated the second foundation, now there's peace in the galaxy, yay!
>WAIT!!! but wot if the second foundation actually still exists?? (it does)
>ok let's take a trip to earth now
>oh look there's demerzel, and she's been helping us out all along!
as you can see, they already integrated the robot part with demerzel into the series, so they can't turn that into real plot anymore either.
>demerzel are show creations
actually does exists in the book, but with a different plot. in the book he's (or she) is much more in the background basically as a hyper puppet master, so the show decision to tie demerzel to the empire is very kino actually
>>

>>

Disagree there. She has to show subtle emotions a lot and anger/sad a lot. Contrast her acting with Emilia Clarke in GoT "I am acting!" face doing the same emotions and you'll see how good she does things.
>>
>>214141952

>comically villainous

>>
>>214141952
The Mule is a character from a time in literature where the "morally gray" stuff wasn't really common yet. And yeah, sometimes in history such irredeemable people actually exist. Genghis Khan for example. Not everyone is a wholesome chungus deep down.
>>
>>214141952
The issue with Gaal is she was the face of the show for a while and is in a lot of marketing material as well as having so much invested in her story arc that a lot of lowest common denominator viewers would be extremely confused if she stops being a character in the show as they all have expectations for her now. I fucking hate every scene she has been in as it's boring as shit but there's no way they are going to cut her. Maybe we're lucky and the new showrunner hates working with her so she is relegated to 2/3 small scenes a season fron now on.

You know the person who had the greatest positive impact on the environment of this planet? Genghis Khan, because he massacred 40 million people. Let me explain something to you. The sun throws a certain amount of energy onto this planet. We turn it into food, clothing, shelter, etc. It supports an amount of us, and it took 30,000 years for that amount to become one billion. Then we found a way to use ancient sunlight, sunlight trapped in oil and coal. We started to live off that. What happened? In just 130 years, our population doubled. The next billion took thirty years. The fourth billion has taken just 14. So here's the question. What do you think is going to happen when that oil and coal runs out in, say, a hundred years? When there's ten billion living on a planet that can support only one?

>Empire and demerzel are show creations
Eh?
>>
>>214142890
tbf demerzel appears like at the absolute very end of the foundation books
by empire I'm assuming he means the genetic dynasty
>>
Every time they talk about "the second foundation" it just feels like such a lame and trite idea.

>the show decision to tie demerzel to the empire is very kino
In the (prequel) books Demerzel is First Minister of the empire. This is. where you get Cleon, only before the existence of the Foundation.

Fourth???

You need to realize, when the first foundation books were written ESP/Telekinesis was still considered a scientific discipline that even Alan Turing used to write about as a way to distinguish between AI and Humans. Psychohistory was also a legitimate field for a while until we found out about chaos theory making it practically unviable to predict the long term behavior of complex systems.

So these things seem trite and stiff to us now in 2025. But things like "second foundation" aren't asspulls. Asimov actually got them from research papers at the time at how to guide civilizations through deterministic paths. It's a time capsule of what people at the time would genuinely thought to have been a potential future. Almost everyone believed in ESP and that humanity would harvest it in the future as a scientific field and technology.

There's a lot of shit we believe to be scientific today that will turn out to be false. For example when I grew up it was "common knowledge" that women are less sexual and care more about emotional connection with their partner, while men prefer sex. Now the consensus is actually that women are more sexual than men and men are craving emotional connection more. These are assumptions we build our entire social fabric around. What if AI cracks animal languages and we can have genuine conversations with animals and we find out some are at human intelligence, it's just such an alien intelligence that we can't have a fair comparison? What if whales becomes technological, or hell, what if they have culture and stories to tell, or religions that might even entice humans to believe in?

Foundation is pretty grounded if you think about it like that.

The interpretive dance bit with Prince holding a robot skull on a staff made me lmao at first cause it's exactly what I'd expect from Apple but then it kinda werked somehow.
