I like the show but I agree that the swearing often seems forced. Iannucci wanted to make a modern version of Yes Minister, and he obviously thought he needed to spice it up with sweary words to make it interesting for modern audiences.

The script on this show was incredibly witty, it wasn't just about the swearing.
>>
>>214140675
It was supposed to be funny. And forced swearing makes it unbearable.
>>
>>214140732
Most of the swearing was done by one character, and if anything it was realistic to how a lot of people would talk in those high pressure jobs.
>>
>no you can't just say bad words that's unrealistic

only the ones with chris langham are good. It was a fantastic send up of New LAbour™ with capaldi as Alistair Campbell. You probably had to be old enough to remember Blair and co. to enjoynit. Chris langham was fantastic in it.
Unfortunately Gingham was outed as a pedophile and you're not really supposed to like the early series any more..... but they're the only ones really worth watching
>>
>>214140862
I am mostly able to forget about Langham's real-life misdeeds when I watch the early series. There is only one part where it is unavoidable. There's a scene where Hugh is in his office with his staff, talking over his latest scandal in the press with them, and Hugh picks up a newspaper and says, "Look at this! They're talking about me like I'm some kind of bloody nonce." At that moment, you're inevitably reminded.

He was in Help with Paul Whitehouse, which was excellent, but wasn't repeated due to the nonce business (similar situation to Pete Townshend). It can still be found on the internet.

It's an acronym of "Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise," which is written on the nonce's cell door to let the guards know not to let them out with the other prisoners to be killed.

I often wondered what was the real, political point of Malcolm. Behind the bullying and the dick-swinging, there ought to be some kind of ideology driving his actions. But there doesn't seem to be anything there. He's ostensibly a Labour party man, yet you never hear him advocate those values or any other values.
>>
>>214141496
He claimed it was for research for a character in a new series of Help, which was confirmed by Paul Whitehouse. He still downloaded the videos, though.
>>
>>214141247
zoomer/burger cope, avoiding bad words because you're a milquetoast faggot is literally limiting your vocabularly,
>>
>>214141605
>it was for research

The old Pete Townshend gambit. No one's buying that.
>>
>>214141574
>He's ostensibly a Labour party man, yet you never hear him advocate those values or any other values.
There's one brief clip where he tells his underlings that the opposition used to shit-talk Nelson Mandela lol. But whips are there to keep people in line and they need real ways to coerce the unwilling
>>
>>214138522
Hot take but I think stuff like this did more harm than good, British men aren't listened too because they rely too much on cursing and shock to make their points, this causes intelligent men to think of them as children when it isn't intended. At the end of the day cursing is a crutch and causes people to think your vocabulary is just bad instead that you are a really witty person who knows how to curse really well.

This really shows when he shouts at the Midwestern Bumpkin and its supposed to make him look like a cosmopolitan UK man who is really above all the common retard but the American was the calm one and he was just really pissed.
>>
>>214141057
we'll have to agree to disagree on that. I only like the ones with langham. I didn't even like the movie.
I'm a big fan of Armando Ianucci however

pamella Stephenson (Billy Connoly's wife) used to be a comedian but trained to be a psycho therapist. She had a brief TV show where she "analyzed" celebrities like Stephen fry, Sharon osbourne, robin williams, Kathleen turner and others. She had an episode with Langham where he aimed to clear his name. I assume she did it as a favour as they used to work together in comedy. It was cringe. A fantastic example of a manipulative degenerate. Watching him trying to justify his pedophilia because he was abused as a child was fucking disgusting.
>>
>>214141760
>British men aren't listened too because they rely too much on cursing and shock to make their points,

get tae fuck, cuntface
>>
>>214141760
I know what you mean, but you have to remember that it's not supposed to be a flattering, masturbatory portrayal of the witty Brits. Iannucci is portraying the political class as a bunch of unprofessional loudmouths. If you're talking about the film, In The Loop, then I think it intentionally made the British delegation look inferior and out of their depth. That was part of the satire.
>>
Malcolm's actually the nice one
>>
>>214140862
Some S3 episodes were pretty funny (e.g. the radio one, most of it's on Manion), but man were the Hugh episodes great, the guy was hilarious. The inquiry episode floors me every time ("he struggled manfully with it"). Shame this guy's a nonce, he was a real talent.
>>
>>214142117
>unprofessional loudmouths
>inferior and out of their depth
That's the impression I get of the British political class.
>>
>>214140862
Spinners and Losers was peak TTOI, and Langham wasn't in it.
>>
>>214140732
Perhaps to you, a fucking spiritual eunuch with testicles like peas and the shrivelled soul of a fucking cowardly churchmouse from a fucking children's fairy tale it does. Normal people swear all the time, it's just verbal punctuation, and faggots like you deserve every bit of bullying you ever got.

I remember once when I was wee some heinous fucking American lardcow tourist chucked a hissy at me and my mates for saying "cunt" as she happened to be walking past us - not even at her, just one of us calling another a mad cunt or something like that - and we followed that worthless bitch around for the rest of the afternoon endlessly singing CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT, CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT, CUUUUUUUUNNNT to the tune of Big Ben's bell. She found a polisman at one point and tried to claim we were harassing her but we just told him what happened and said we were doing her a favour by desensitising her and he laughed at her as well. You really cannot grasp how absolutely fucking pathetic literally every single person you mewl about swearing to thinks you are.

>>
>>214141247
Actually studies have shown there's a direct correlation between how often you swear and the broadness of your vocabulary with more swearing meaning a broader vocab. Seperate studies have demonstrated a strong link between breadth of vocabulary and general levels of intelligence.

So actually intelligent people *do* curse constantly, it's prissy pseud faggots who *act* like they *think* intelligent people act who don't swear.

I saw that interview, the show was called Shrink Rap. Yes it was cringe and he did himself no favours there. I would have had more respect for him if he'd honestly admitted his wrongdoing without excuses. Instead, he employed his acting skills in a misguided and fully unconvincing attempt to cast himself as a victim deserving of our sympathy. What a disaster.

I mostly agree, although I think Spinners and Losers is one of the best episodes of the series.

Season 3 sorely misses Langham, and it's in season three that the swearing becomes the focal point of the humour. A lot of the jokes boil down references to minor celebrities combined with inventive expletives. Rewatching the show made me realise what a big step down season 3 is.

>remember once when I was wee some heinous fucking American

If you're going to pretend to be Scottish, the preposition in this instance is "wi." As in, "Ah wis oot wi ma trans bird that night." The word "wee" is always an adjective meaning small, as in, "When we goat back tae the flat, she pilled oot her wee micropenis, shrunk cuz ay the hormones an that, ken?"

It's probably the best political comedy since Yes, Minister. The latter is too dry and 'slow'.

nta, you're right, the swearing actually ruins an anotherwise brilliant show.

But the bad seasons are so bad they actually ruin the good seasons
>>
>>214138522
This and veep are unironic kino.
Funny thing about Veep is how many democrats watched it (Obamo, Hillary) and said they loved it, when really the show was a satire on the absolute scum the left wing embodies. Selena was a stupid, ineffective cunt who made every wrong move conceivably possible, all while patting herself on the back and surrounding herself with yes men to delude her into thinking shes doing well. Most HBO shows are pure cancer, but somehow they let veep slip through, lot of progressives dont seem to notice theyre the butt of the joke throughout.
