I never understood why since he doesn't look like character at all, but then again Dwayne doesn't look like any superhero because he's not white or black or Asian or latino. At least Black Adam isn't any one of those, he's supposed to be middle eastern, and no one who doesn't read comics had ever heard of him. Dwayne probably has just enough self-awareness to understand that he can't be Superman or Batman, so he probably figured he could use his star power to take over this unknown but really powerful character without much backlash and then snowball that position into building a cinematic universe around himself.
