shan't be watching
>>

What the hell?
>>
i was shocked to hear aronofsky made this because it's one of the most anti-semitic movies i've seen in a while lol
>>
>>214153815
Looks like shit, won’t be going out of my way to see it.
>>
>>214154812
I take you haven't seen his very first movie, Pi where the villains were also hasidic jews
>>
>>214153815
wtf, justin bieber is an actor now?
>>
>>214153815
Honestly it was entertaining but kind of mid.
Zoe Kravitz and Matt Smith should have been in the movie more and given more to do desu
>>
>>214154812
>>darren aronofsky
Are you trying to bamboozle me into watching goyslop media?
>>
>>214154812
how so? Hasidic gangsters?
>>
>>214153815
Please tell me they don't play that queer Jane's Addiction song and I'll give it a shot.

I really liked it... But man, Aronofsky is such a weird director. Most of his films are pretentious auteur crap (The Fountain, Black Swan, Mother!), then he shifted to intimate drama with The Whale, and now he's doing this little action thriller with hints of comedy. His filmography is completely inconsistent.

I agree with >>214154812 the portrayal of the two rabbis is really surprising coming from Aronofsky. They’re clearly the two most heinous characters in the film but that's not all: the dinner scene with the disgusting kosher food and the mouth noises was obvious banter lmao

Cool movie though and has some cool ideas like the unexpected death of Zoe Kravitz' character
>>
>Aronofsky is now making bargain bin edgy action comedy capers
Grim as all fuck. Imagine winning an Oscar then making THIS.
>>
>>214156392
He signed up for AI + almost did Netflix Cujo. That was the sign it's over
>>
>>214154812
His first movie involved jewish rabi gangsters wanting to destroy the world
>>
>>214153815
>niggers get second and third billing
im so fucking tired, bros
>>
>>214154731
Yeah why use a contemporary British punk band as the soundtrack to a movie set in late 90’s New York?
>>
>>214156227
>Please tell me they don't play that queer Jane's Addiction song
Not at all, it has an OST played by Idles. Surprisingly really good, gives the movie a grimy, Boondock Saints or Sopranos type feel.

That and what marketing it did have was somewhat misleading (which is par for the course with Aronofsky).

>>214156153
>how so?
It's not merely the fact that this movie has villains who are explicitly Jewish (though that is rare for an American film), it's that the movie implies that their Jewishness makes them substantially more evil than the other villains in the film. The other villains/characters are bad guys that hurt and kill people (and in the case of Russ and the Russians they seem to genuinely sadistic fucks), but they usually only do so in a relevant context, and in the case of the other characters they're usually apprehensive about killing people and go out of their way to avoid collateral damage, which they feel bad about.
However, in the context of the Shmuly brothers (yes, that's their names), their whole thing is causing as much death and chaos as possible whenever they're wronged by someone or something, because they do not see the lives of goyim as important. They speak about death in a cavalier, sterile, calculating manner, and never have a sense of regret one second about anything that they do because in their eyes the people they killed are mere goys.
They even have the chutzpah to use the MC as a literal shabbos goy near the end of the film, where they try and pilpul him out of being mad at them for killing his gf when they make him light their cigarettes using the novelty pistol lighter that they looted off her. He ends up killing them by crashing the car he's driving them in because they aren't wearing seatbelts due to Shabbos.
>>
>>214155278
>>214157909
>the villains were also hasidic jews
The difference between this and Pi is that Pi framed the central conflict as being one between secular vs. religious Jews, while in this film the conflict is explicitly framed as Jew vs. goyim.
>>
>>214163294
They didn't seem that bad to me, two funny competent jews, the Russians weren't any better just less successful
>>
>>214163294
but why would aronofsky make this? it must be secretly against us goys...
>>
>>214163906
>competent
They did a mass shooting at the Hermitage club and killed everyone other than the people they went there to kill, and then fucked up by not only having Hank use the pistol lighter, but also be unapologetic about killing his gf while he was driving the car.
>>
>>214160415
Too similar to Novocaine in March this year = market saturation. Misleading trailer that is noise/chaos, no clear story or relationships/conflict. "Average guy" stories lose out to "Great man theory" stories, without epic adventures/spectacle.
>>
>>214163294
The book had 2 leather bondage guys, or did they turn into the Russians? "Everyone in NYC is corrupt" is the idea. Aronofsky publicly sides with being Polish more than Joo?
>>
Also I think NYC has lost a lot of allure as a setting for movies, unless it has historical costume + epic sets.
>>
>>214164706
>The book had 2 leather bondage guys, or did they turn into the Russians?
Depends, were they the first guys that beat up Hank in the book? If so, then yes.
>>214164722
>NYC has lost a lot of allure as a setting for movies
This movie wisely uses a late 90s setting to great effect imo. It's set in 1998, right before 9/11 when NYC was just starting to gentrify but was still grimey and dingy overall, with all the Eastern Bloc types flooding the city and giving it the last big wave of organized foreign crime.
>>
>>214156366
yeah god forbid a director tries to experiment with new genres and styles
>>
>>214163294
sounds like fake edgy antiwoke pandering
>>
>>214165907
>fake edgy antiwoke pandering
"Fake edgy antiwoke pandering" never goes after Jews or Blacks in favor of an attractive, sympathetic, White male main character though, which this movie does.

>>
>>214164937
In terms of boxoffice appeal, contemporary NYC even in 90s isn't enough of a tourist attraction, or memory lane feature show. Unless it's made cheaply like Anora. It's an unfortunate fact that investment in movies is about a theme park ride or experience now: "Do I want to spend on going back to late 90s NYC, and for what?"
>>
>>214167462
>contemporary NYC even in 90s isn't enough of a tourist attraction, or memory lane feature show
The twin towers are very prominently featured in this movie, along with all the charming last gasps of the analog tech era. And idk, I think due to stuff like Sopranos there's some nostalgia for that era, though like you said probably not enough for it to have wide appeal.

>>
>>214164501
Nevertheless I wouldn't call it antisemitic, those specific two jews are cunts, the movie doesn't imply it's a Jewish trait or something. The black cop is corrupt, does that mean all blacks are corrupt? The Russians are angry morons, does that mean all Russians are?
Is any movie that negatively portrays individuals from some group is automatically against that group?
>>
>>214153815
I came out of this film wanting more screen time for each character. I loved every bit of this movie.

He can talk fast. He starts out a press run talking like an annoying old man, then he cant wait for it to be over so talks faster. It's probably nerves. These are contractual jobs lasting weeks to a month.
