>be 200 IQ genius
>fall for the most obvious bait
>>
If he was actually 200 IQ he wouldn't have made Kira an obvious thing to begin with, he could've just made all the deaths accidents and cancer instead of heart attacks, but he was literally too busy jacking off over his own power
>>
Crazy that he died a virgin
>>
>>214158299
You've never met hyper intelligent autists, huh?
>>
Would have been funnier if they put a white guy on with some ultra black name just to rub it in
>>
>>214158299
imagine you were a genius and one day you literally see demons and have supernatural abilities. your intellect is shit in comparison
>>
>>214158387
The point wasn't just the killing, it was so that people would know someone was passing down righteous judgement. He wanted the world to change to his desires.
>>
>>214158299
Is Light actually meant to be a 200 IQ genius? I thought the idea was that he's a midwit with delusions of grandeur who's as dangerous as he is because he has a massive cheat code.
>>
>>214158537
Then he should have killed corrupt politicians and billionaires, and not random small time criminals who were already in jail.
>>
if I got a death note I would use it to randomly kill public figures with funny deaths
important people drowning in their toilets
actors shitting their pants on galas, slipping on shit and breaking their necks
10 presidents in a row of some random country dying exactly 1 week after their inauguration so nobody runs for president anymore because they believe it's cursed
>>
>>214158768
Fuck, yeah me too. I've used ChatGPT to simulate Willy Wonka dying in embarrassing ways over a dozen times now. It's like crack.
>>
>>214158669
Light is intelligent with tests and grades but L is more cunning and has more real world experience and deduced pretty quickly that Light was just a high school student and extremely egotistical which lead to his downfall
>>
His most retarded move was
>L suspects Kira is a student because of timing of deaths
>Light learns his suspicions, starts making criminals to kill themselves at the beginning of each hour at :00 minute sharp
He willingly admits that Kira has insider info on his investigation and also can control when death will happen

It was so retarded and he did it just to taunt L. It pales in comparison to OP which was at least due to by a clever play and luck of L
>>
he was still an emotional teenager.
>>
>>214158299
he's a teenager
>>
>>214158730
That doesn't get the average person to change it just convinces them to not go into politics.
>>
"hacking" into his father's computer was Light's biggest mistake, they would have never figured out it was him without doing that
>>
>>214158949
the writing is very contrived and a lot of characters make very specific decisions just to have the plot develop in a certain direction. how the death note works wasn't even fully planned because they kept adding new rules on top of old ones, because the author obviously realized how exploitable the whole concept is.
>>

What was Light even smart at in school? It never sounded like he had a favorite subject or interest in education.

Does even the average student? I feel like even high achievers only study hard because basically everyone says you have to or for the sake of accomplishment. The latter of which I could see being Light's only reasoning.
Specially in asia where kids will even lose sleep for the sake of studying more, can't like something much when you're being grinded to the bone to stuff your face in it.

He is so asexual that he had to fake fapping to porn at his room so people watching him with spy cameras thinks he is normal

Misa was infatuated with Light because the murderer that killed her parents were killed by Light in prison. She became obsessed with him ever since then she wanted to have sex but Light only wanted to use her its not implied they were intimate

Book is worthless imo. Based on the rules you couldn't say, kill a pilot mid flight, right? Just take it back at that point. Iirc you couldn't even kill someone and have them hand over their fortune before dying because it would be too far outside their normal behavior.
>>
>>214158299
This is a nice of revealing Light's weakness if you try to ignore how convoluted setting up this trap is. A less egotistical Light would have picked up on the signs that this was a setup and try to draw less attention to himself. On the other hand, it sounds like investigation team's plan hinged on Kira reacting impulsively to the broadcast. What if Kira needed a couple days to think about killing him? Afterall, his victims have been criminals so murdering an investigator should take some time to consider. What would happen if the day he acted on the murder would happen to be the day this announcement was being broadcasted in a different country? I'm sure Light would have been really smug to find out that L was being misled almost immediately.
>>

Is been a while but i remember that by season 2 he was already doing that.

His plan was: the first one to go were the most violent criminals who got heart attacks and violent deaths, then he would move on to killing people with less serious crimes and then he would move on to shitty people but he would kill with things that could pass as natural causes.

Like they talk about how there was no war by season 2 and all the governments are scared of him, probably because Kira killed all the shitty leaders in the world.

Why didn't Light write all the task force and SPK names he knew in preparation for the final showdown with Near?

It was already established with the way Light killed the FBI agents that the Death Note can be used conditionally (i.e. FBI agents die after receiving the email file) not just based on time.

Light wrote that the bus jacker would die after seeing Ryuk.

In both cases, Light did not have an exact time written for the death since he could not have known the time it would take to convince Ray to give him his FBI ID (for the busjacking) or to threaten Ray into writing the name of his superior (for killing the FBI agents).

Light could have written a conditional note such as "all these people die when they hear the phrase 'I am Kira'". That way, even if Mikami failed, Light still had a way of killing everyone except Near. At this point, Light could have just asked Mikami to bring a gun and/or Light could have stolen a gun from the fallen task force members and finished Near off.

"[insert all task force and SPK member names here] attend the meeting at the warehouse showing no outwards signs of being controlled. They hear the phrase 'I am Kira', toss their weapons in the direction of the speaker and die of a heart attack."

Am I missing something here or would this have been an easy way for Light to ensure his victory even if Mikami failed?

I don't want to get into for the 1000th time this but the most popular, (author supporting )theory is that Near killed Kira with the death note.

you could kill a pilot mid flight, things would just work out such that everyone else on the flight would survive. The limits of this aren't really explored though

>>
>>214158299
A good cope that explains this is when you separate the intent of the author from what the author actually made.
The mangaka isn't very smart. His idea of making Light smart is ''dude, this is like the best student in Japan, see how smart he is because he gets perfect grades!'' This is supposed to paint Light as a genius, but if you look past the intent you see that the mangaka and Light are making the same mistake and think someone is smart just because they do their homework.
Light has an over-inflated ego because he studies a lot and thinks he is a genius because he can do math and name the capitals of countries.
The mangaka wrote a midwit character who is convinced he is the smartest man in the world. Once Light graduated from school he was left with no outlet to show off how smart he is. He would just sit around doing nothing. Instead of going to school and showing off with perfect grades he would sit at home with his girlfriend and wait for his goons to do work for him, both the police goons and the Kira worshipper goons.
This is not a smart character.
The author didn't mean to write it that way, but that's how it ended up.
>>
Can Light do something like
>Blabla goes to place X, sees a person with a red shirt and 20 hot women that are queued for sucking his dick. And then goes home and dies
And then Light goes to place X wearing a red shirt and waiting for his cock to be sucked?

Then after this, he narrowed it down by killing people on a high schooler's schedule.

Then after that, he narrowed it down by overtly using police information, which narrowed down the suspect to being a police officer's family member.

It took three separate 50 IQ plays from Light to put L on an equal playing ground. That is why it is hard to take the, "two geniuses playing chess against each other" vibe very seriously. It took too much contrivance to reach that point.

If Light is portrayed as a genius, then three quick succession 50 IQ plays is a contrivance. If he is supposed to be "inviting a challenge", then he is outright a 50 IQ individual rather than the genius he is portrayed as.

There is a difference between making yourself known to everyone by using heart attacks to kill people 99% of the time, and letting the lead detective intentionally know you are a high schooler in the Tokyo region who is a family member to the detective team.

I never bought this assumption that it was someone going to a public high school just because of the timing of the killings. Any number of other explanations could be had. It could have been someone from america going to night school. It could have been someone from europe who just picked that time because he liked writing in the morning. It could have just been any random japanese person who picked that time for any reason. I don't buy how you just zero in on a student with nothing else to help connect it. Sure you can kill anyone in a traffic accident provided there's traffic.
If you wrote "nigger faggotson dies in a traffic accident while lying on his bed" the note wouldn't randomly teleport a truck into the victim's room. The circumstance of death has to be feasible.

Light has managed to get criminals to kill themselves before, one of the rules shown in the transitions states something like "It's thought that all humans have the power to commit suicide". The traffic accidents do not happen on their own. The death note makes the driver somehow be there at exact that time speeding at a crossroads and not checking if anyone is crossing at that moment. Clearly it can control more than the victim here

Why are there constant Death Note threads on /tv/ that are just about what Light should have done? It's never even discussing the show in general, it's always just "Light was dumb for doing X." I think there's just one schitzo who is obsessed with this one thing and spams the board with it relentlessly. This thread is a bit different - usually he says something like "have magic notebook that can kill anyone... still lose." I wonder why he's so into this topic? I'm a weeb and I love Death Note but damn this shit came out like 20 years ago it's such a weird thing to fixate on. There's like 10 niggas like this on /tv/ who just have one random thing they spam 24/7, not just Death Note guy.

He knew light was the killer, he just have just pulled out a gun and shot him in the face. They could find the evidence afterwards. Light sacrificed a small amount of anonymity to gain a massive psychological edge.

Light knew people would eventually become aware of his existence.
>>
>>214175718
that's an interesting thought but I don't think it's accurate. the death note legitimately does corrupt, or at least it brings out parts of someone that actually would stay otherwise locked away by law and social convention. It's simply too simple to use and too removed from the act. Light genuinely freaks out when he realises the note is real and that he's already killed 2 people with it but even then, his panic is from his own imagination, his own psyche and moral upbringing. He doesn't have their blood actually on his hands. His ego reaches godlike proportions early on as a direct result of the power the note gave him.
I think his life would have mirrored Mikami's.
>>
>>214164615
I mean the show does validate his idea by saying crime was down 70% from before.

>>214158299

>>214158768
You know they cover that up, right? "Died peacefully at their home" is common in obituaries. They aren't telling the proles how embarrassingly someone important died.
>>
>>214175491
You can't make someone kill other peoples (unless accident but you don't choose the guy who will run over your target if you write traffic accident)

>Claims that his plan was to broadcast the news segment in different regions of Japan until Kira took the bait

If Light was just taking a shit, missed the broadcast, and then saw it online a few days later after it had already been broadcast in another region, there would be no way to track him down.
If Light didn't see the broadcast immediately the plan would have failed, it was mostly based on luck rather than a calculated plan

The entire thing with Near and Mikami was fucking retarded. Especially the one random dude perfectly copying the entirety of the death note by hand

>Then on the day of the plan, take this page out in the morning and test it just in case. Pick a criminal you can easily monitor and write that they stop what they're doing and go kill themselves and won't be discovered for days

>The others don't understand, but Ryuk is locked in staring at Light
>Lights speech gets more desperate, talking about how before him, Ryuk was bored rotting away in his own world, and that's gonna happen again if he gets arrested/killed
>Outright tells Ryuk that he knows he doesn't love him, so he can kill everyone there and save Light without dying
>Finally the others catch on, even draw their guns
>Ryuk just begins laughing and furiously writing down names, maybe even body blocks so if the others open fire, they can't see Light and can't land a fatal shot, maybe wing him in the arm like Matsuda did originally
>They don't have enough time to do anything, and everyone starts dropping like flies
>Except Near. Ryuk has stopped writing, and Light and Near are the only ones left alive
>Tells Light that it's no fun if he does all the work
>We get to see smug shit faced little Near get choked to death by Light, who after killing untold numbers of people, finally has to get his own hands dirty

In my head canon, the shinigami are aliens or beings from another dimension that consume souls of sentient beings for sustenance. They happened to arrive at Earth after humanity had invented writing. In to keep their food source sustainable, they devised a way to allocate the souls through a system of rules written in a notebook that is bound to its owner. The notebooks are actually extremely advanced high tech devices and nothing magical. People with no names are freed to be consumed without restriction.

I half like this. It fails because Ryuk would definitely find it funnier to watch Light squirm than bail him out. And also because the show has to end with Light losing.
I think the funnier way to fix it would be to have Ryuk unexpectedly save Light at the end from their bullets, pretending that he has a soft spot for him. But then the reveal that Ryuk actually just delayed Light's death so that he would die in a more humiliating way.

A majority of his kills ARE spontaneous heart attacks so there's no reason to assume the Death Note couldn't cause someone to rapidly metastize cancer

It was a different time.

Jesus, I swear some of you don't even pay attention to shows you watch. The whole point was to create a fear of a God that is punishing criminals so people would police themselves. Kira didn't have time to be writing down the names of every single one of the millions of criminals in the world.

>the fact that not everyone who acquires power turns into a genocidal maniac
Light wasn't a genocidal maniac though, he killed killers, people who should be dead anyways. It's only our twisted modern society that thinks it's a good thing to feed, clothe and give shelter and ps2's to true psychopaths until they die comfy of old age surrounded by their peers.

Watsuki got a pass due to legal loopholes (TLDR: the shit he had was in his possesion before it was considered illegal) but Japan is just weird about drugs in general
>>
>>214185539
That's not a loophole that's just normal. You can't punish someone for something before it's made a crime.

Ohba is a proto-incel and he wrote Light as the average gifted "chad" character who thinks they know best and should be allowed to rule the world because they're a little more talented and smarter than the average man.
L is his incel self-insert who has to watch and fairly prove the chad is evil/wrong while chad trounces the world and takes advantage of the incel's poor damaged dream girl.
Light is supposed to be fallible and flawed.

He could do that, but then all of the agents would die exactly 23 days after Light wrote their name into the Death Note. This would create a hard time limit. Also who knows what weird new rule would be "created", if Light constantly did this. Like apparantely you don't get your memory back, once you traded & regained your Death Note 6 times in total. That's a really bizarre rule and I only learned when I looked up the rules in the wiki. So Light might unintentionally fuck himself massively over by doing something like this. Maybe it will turn out okay, but maybe not. It's the author's choice.

>>214161845
Using the Death Note turned him into a Psychopath. He wouldn't treat Misa like that, if he just became a normal detective, which he basically turned into once he lost the memory of the Death Note.

>>214168774
All Humans are considered to be capable of suicide. So suicide is a reasonable method of killing people. By that same logic being near a road also makes you reasonably prone to a random traffic accident. You wouldn't be able to do the same thing, if the victim was inside a bunker for a month.

>>214181999
Dexter Morgan is his legal name. Of course it would work. You are thinking of this too autistically. The point of the Death Note is to make the Death Note owner have to do detective work and NOT solve unsolvable philosophical questions whether your birth name or your adoptive name is your real name.

The original point of the traffic accident part is how death note is able to control people other than the victim, in this case the driver.

>people would hide their evil
People's mindsets changed because they believed an unassailable demigod had come down and shown them that wiping out criminals by the tens of thousands was the morally correct path, and there were cults and communities dedicated to rooting out corrupt people and broadcasting their identities so Kira could take them
>>
>>214182382
Can't break physical laws and cancer can only grow at the rate biology allows, starting from zero its minimum a few weeks before they die and the geas can't last that long so you can't set it as a death condition, it would revert to heart attack
