>2 hours of indulgent cgi slop scenes and the same old boring 2d native American tropes we've all seen a thousand times before, before finally getting to the hour long finale I would say the whole film was carried ENTIRELY by pic related being cute, without a shred of hyperbole, she was literally the only thing that particularly stood out to me in the whole film, I cant imagine what a pointless slog it would have been without her activating neurons once and a whileI cant be the only one who finds this stuff just straight up boring and massively overindulgent, right? Guy really needs to spend a little bit less time on the CGI jerk off sessions and generic native American tropes and more time developing likeable characters and their relationships another small thing that I personally felt, was that they really need more scenes with humans and ayys together because the contrast in size makes them feel a little more interesting
>>214174648You'll reject this, but Cameron is in fact focused on the story. The whole point of the first 15 minutes is to show that Jake is basically a self-actualized man, and completely happy, for over ten years. He enjoys an idyllic existence (and can even get away to go flying with Neytiri sometimes, leaving the kids in the village's care), until Conflict 2 predictably wrecks this. You clearly see a certain appeal in Kiri, so that's one example of a likeable character. Another is Neteyam, who the fujos seemed to like. But most important is LO'AK. Lo'ak, Kiri and Spider are all the awkward "middle children", and the point of the film's climax is that these middle children, sometimes overlooked (especially Lo'ak) begin to assert themselves and show a little adulthood. Lo'ak's relationship with Payakan is also very important because (apart from the whale "character"), Lo'ak is basically ALONE out in nature in the middle of the film. Being an awkward teenager is a nearly-universally relatable thing (I suppose a small number of chads and stacies never really had and problems in the adolescent social department, but still), by design. Although Lo'ak gets his brother killed, I found him interesting, because the story is designed that way on purpose. Also both he and Payakan are outcasts who help each other out, again on purpose. Even Payakan becomes an interesting character in his own right because he clearly wrestles with his own conscience over his culture's pacifism (by thrashing around in the water for a few seconds) until he realizes the truth: nope, these humans have got to go, and that's it.The third comment is just superfluous and silly. The film again contains many scenes showing the size contrast, just as the original did. A significant minor human character (Spider), by his very character design, is constantly around the Na'vi, or the Recoms. Some scientist humans have gone native and go all hippie with the Na'vi, etc.
>>214174919i guess the biggest problem for me is jakes sons were just boring to me, a lot of the film focuses on them. I still dont even know which one is one who died. is the now who bonded with the whale the one who died? i honestly could not tell you I think he did a bad job focusing on the story, it really feels like they brush off the consequences of their pointless raids against the humans and the fact that his son and a bunch of other people are dead because of him and barely go into this aspect of the plot at all. Jake knows full well "they will keep coming like a storm that never stops" but he still chooses to engage in wanton violence anyway until they finally come and push his shit in and his whole family gets fucked over along with everyone else around them, but I dont think the movie ever even touched one on the ethical question of what he was doing since that would have messed with the whole noble savage vibe
>>214175138I am a big Avatar fan and I myself got the two brothers confused on the first pass, if you've only watched it once that's understandable. A second/third pass makes it clear who's who and how they contrast with each other. The raids aren't pointless. The general clearly states that the raids are seriously hampering human development of the area. The two sides are in a state of war, and people die. You're almost getting at Jake's main mistake in the movie (retreating to the water people instead of fighting a frontal conflict), but without the details.Jake is not a bright guy (this is also fairly clear in both movies), but the central problem of the original film is that he has to pick a side, which he does. That central tension (the more interesting tension) is absent from the sequel. A valid criticism is that he was dumb to just sort of hang out in the same area for 15-ish years until the predictable and inevitable return of the humans."The ethical question of what he was doing". This is the most interesting comment, and I assume you are referring to killing large numbers of humans. Again, there's two sides in a state of war. There is a certain perversity in being able to literally escape being human. IIRC the official website, in his brief character bio, acknowledges that he is a traitor to the human species, because he literally is and that's how it's written.
>>214175389eeh its not even the "betrayal" aspect that i particularly care about, I just think the plot of the film was begging for an exploration of violent vs nonviolent resistance, as the entire plot of the second film hinges on the concept of violence breeding and endless cycle of violence which Jake's brings down on his family by making himself into a target, and all this with the question of whether or not there is even a point considering sheer overwhelming force and the fact that its pretty clear he was never going to actually stop human expansion on the planet and this gets even more juicy given that he was a now the tribal leader and was actually in a position to fulfill his original purpose as a cultural bridge and could have actually made some diplomatic headway but the movie never really touches on any of this
>>214174648>another small thing that I personally felt, was that they really need more scenes with humans and ayys together because the contrast in size makes them feel a little more interestingwho is spider? who is quaritch and his crew? they had plenty of scenes with aliens and humans. >>214175138the eldest son died, the middle son is the one with the whale and the youngest son just spent the 3rd act strapped to a railing

>>214176595maybe, it does interest me and all as i liked the trailer and was really looking to get something out of it that i never really got. I might re watch it someday but honestly there are way too many cgi jerk off scenes that exist for no reason other than "look how cool the environment is! and the plot and characters just did not warrant the 3 hour runtime

>>214175869As a character, Neteyam seemed to only exist as a projection of who Jake wished he could be, he resembled Jake’s Avatar form and he had four fingers like a pure Na'vi. Jake lost his idealized and vicarious son and was left with awkward and unpredictable (with the five finger "deformity") Lo’ak. By the end of the movie Jake begins to accept Lo’ak but based on the trailer for 3 it still appears unresolved
