I didn't love it at first except for a few moments but after spending so long with it, it grows on you. It's really slow sometimes. There's a meme where it takes half an episode to walk down a hallway that definitely rings true sometimes. There was a point, in certain spots, where I would just start skipping re-used flashbacks. But the arc payoff fights are usually really fun. Luffy's "super saiyan" mode reveal was fantastic. That said, it looks like some episodes were animated by incredibly talented people, and other scenes/episodes where they just hired a bunch of Indians to do reaction shots and slow pans for 20 minutes.

But it's definitly a generic shonen with some fun moments.

One Piece is a masterpiece of an adventure manga. It really is unlike anything else where most shoune are framed by their arcs, One Piece's arcs are all part of a singular arc that the series has measurable been following since it started running. We want to find One Piece, One Piece is on the last island of the Grand Line ocean, they are exactly two islands away from the goal. But this same token adapting it is pure hell you can't go to fast because there's only so much filler you can do without messing with an established order, so instead the adaptation slows down to a miserable pace. To say it's a bad adaptation isn't technically correct, because the anime still adapted a lot of the iconic scenes really well, but the nature of the story makes the anime literally unwatchable.

I can't wait for Zoro fighting all the bounty hunters at Whisky Peak in live action
