Something that gets done for a long time is inevitably exhausted of ideas. Westerns had a good 50 year run. Horses are also pretty essential to westerns and it has become harder to use them because it's much more expensive to own horses now and they've been given rights.

People had spent centuries and centuries insulating themselves from that brutality by building walls and guard towers, and then for a century or two they were plunged right back into the terrifying reality of where a human being stands in relation to the planet.Taming the west and pacifying the violence that it teemed with was such a terrifying task. But it got done. And now you have dumb shit boomers sitting in air conditioned homes in Arizona, whereas a couple centuries back it was terrified broke English and Spanish people getting their fuckin throats ripped out under the blazing sun.
