Hackers is actually just good. You're confusing it being very genre-specific, niche, and stylized with it having any actual problems.The plot is airtight, just a bit difficult to follow on the first watch which makes it all seem disconnected; subsequent viewings really show that it's kino. Tonally there's almost nothing like it.
