If anything the fact Adama ever deferred to a civilian government was much more ridiculous than anything else. There are a handful of ships outside of the Galactica that are actually essential, everyone else is there are the largesse of Adama.Adama deciding not to rig that election resulted in a demagogue(Baltar) deliberately landing them all on a shithole that he knew wasn't sustainable. A year later that planet got occupied by the Cylons, which was also Baltar's fault, and fucking Zarek of all people ends up telling Roslin they'd have been better of if she had successfully stolen the election.
