I just want a new, single movie, live action adaptation of The Hobbit
>>

make it a musical
>>
Was all the Smaug stuff, the village stuff and the war all crammed into this one book?

I have had it on my shelf for like 20 years I just never got around reading it.

You really don’t.

Watch the M4 fan edit, it makes it faithful to the books and compresses it into a reasonable runtime
>>
>>214193241
The battle portions are just very short. Basically just gives the reader an overview of troop movement.
>>
>>214191741
It would still be worse than Jacksons adaptation
>>
>>214191741
The cartoon's not good enough?
>>
>>214193766
not really. it's impressive how much it covers in 78 minutes, but just skims everything.
>>
>>214193383
This.

Anything at all being produced today is even worse than Jackson's Hobbit.
>>
>>214193383
>>214193975
You're right, but OP can't read it.
>>
>>214193241
The war is basically just retards killing each other over gold before Thorin realizes that what's actually valuable is what the Hobbit values.
>>
>>214191741
Steel yourself for a reimagined black bilbo, who's in a polycule relationship with ian mckellen and every dwarf
>>
You'll never get a faithful Hobbit adaptation because Hackson's LOTR trilogy came first, made a ton of money, and cemented the style for all Tolkien media going forward. It MUST be an action bonanza, it MUST have Nazgul and an overblown choral soundtrack, it MUST have lame comic relief. That's the blueprint and that's all you're going to get.
>>
>>214195725
the hobbit book has a lot of comic relief.
>>
>>214195789
Alfrid Lickspittle was invented for the films, as were the dude weed jokes with Radagast.
>>
>>214191741
There's already the Rankin/bass animated film and Jackson's flicks. The fuck more do you want out of this simple story?
>>
Let's make our own Hobbit movie
>>
>>214195992
with hobbit hookers?
>>
>>214191741
Wasn't someone making a cut version that removed the garbage?

>>214193241
The entire plot is in the one book, yes, but the movies add a ton of fanfiction slop and a few random tidbits from the Silmarillion that they pretend occurred around the same time. If they'd just stuck to the book it could've been a comfy 3.5 hour movie instead of 9 hours of slop. I don't even remember a war unless you're talking about the chaos when the dragon attacks the town.
LotR is an epic, The Hobbit is a fairytale for kids and is written more simply and straightforward. You could read it casually spread out over a couple days no problem.
>>
>>214191741
You'll get an over bloated slapstick chase sequence and like it
>>
>>214193936
Besides Beorn and Bilbo coming home to see all of his stuff being sold off it covers the entire book
>>
>live action
animation works better for the story
>>

>what's actually valuable is what the Hobbit values.
The friends we made along the ever winding road?
>>
>>214191741
...why?
>>
>>214195725
People say LOTR was the Millennial Star Wars, but in reality, it was their Wizard of Oz since every Oz adaptation made after 1939 is required to have red shoes, green witches and singing midgets to be appealing to normies.
>>
>>214191741
A trilogy is too much, but I'm pretty sure a single movie is too little to cram it all.
>>
>>214197922
Yes!
