I find people who debate "great movies" and then fight amongst themselves over Predator, BttF, SW, and so on, to be legitimately braindead. It'd be like debating great literature and bringing up your favourite capecomic run. Each genre can be great for what it is, but pretending that Pop Culture Schlock of any kind is on on the level of objective greatness, is downright moronic. I have a collection of comics, games, figures and so that's upwards of 50K and I wouldn't show up to Book Club with my favourite X-Men issue. But somehow people say things such as "Indiana Jones is a great film!" and mean it wholeheartedly. It just boggles the mind.

Film is a pleb medium, it's supposed to appeal to the lowest common denominator via fast cuts and edits, loud, manipulative music and sounds, flashing images, choreographed action etc. It's not a medium for high art.
