I'm still mad about this scene. This is the peak of the show. Years after they've last seen each other and it's all coming to light and they finally get a chance to lay it all out and it ends in the stupidest fucking way it could have. And the worst part is I'm not even mad at the writers. They fucked up every ending so far. I'm mad at myself for having hopes that just one time they'd kill off a character with some dignity or make it meaningful. Instead we get this stupid ass struggle session before he's shot by Prater and says "fuck you".

Every antagonist and secondary antagonist and the whole club and how Dexter gets in is extremely interesting as a premise. However

The show self-references how easily the serial killers are taken out but it still doesn't help that everyone except Al were underutilized. Al is the only one who doesn't fit the pattern that every problem has to be dealt with in a single episode or at the very least the start of the next episode.

Also in episodes 9-10 it's spelled out that Prater apparently was 100% not suspecting Dexter of not being who he is until he saw him with his son. And he never suspected for real he was BHB.

Again, everything is wrapped up in the last 90 minutes. We start with Dexter being exposed as having a son so Prater needs to die sooner than thought. The show has like 40 minutes to go when Prater finds out Dexter is BHB and there's all the excitement and hopes and wishes for something to come out of it but then they just shut down the season.

It was not hard to predict that Prater will likely not be multi season character because the actor is probably too expensive for that, but they still wrapped up everything too quickly.

I also really liked the whole Dexter/Dark Passenger double thing, like he is a serial killer but he pretends to be another serial killer, and they even sort of look alike and use the same method with strangulation in the backseat.

I can understand the police are not immediately on Dexter because they have no reason to actively track his movements or phone calls or check the security cameras, right. But what about Prater's club? They give him a phone and they never use it to listen into what he does or who he talks or find out where he lives because he has the phone on him at all times? They don't do that even if the club ends up being all about control?

He gets in by giving a fake thumbprint, sure, but he uses his very own face connected to his very own real name, especially when he is no longer considered dead by the public. They can't use face recognition and check that the guy used to work for the police, even if the club boasts how they are connected to law enforcement on all levels? Hello? Or how Dexter became if not a celebrity then at least somewhat known after Rita and some other people close to him died in the hands of serial killers. He even talked about it with Jordan Chase on the stage iirc.

Anyone else feel like Dexter is too powerful this season? Theres been 0 tension at all as he easily navigates every killer while barely breaking a sweat and his only true obstacle of Batista was taken care of by Prater before he could reveal anything substantial.
Gone are the days of Dexter being on the backfoot almost all season or completely losing control of the situation and shit spiraling as he attempts to get ahead.
Praters a fucking midget with 1 henchwoman who is seemingly a complete non-threat to Dexter.
The show was always at it best when Dexter had to outsmart his opponents and figure out how to weasel his way out of sticky situations. Thats just not even been a thing this season hes just bulldozed through every killer.

Not really surprised about it, the show is already a sort of parody of itself and it doesn't even attempt to take itself seriously. It's just entertainment with twists and emotional ups and downs. It was worse if you watch seasons 7-8, the show larps as being serious or Dexter eventually facing consequences, but anyone who is a threat to Dexter just falls dead on the floor.

That said, episodes 9-10 in res still felt like a letdown because everything was resolved too quickly and they even teased in dialogue "what we could have done together" instead of having some episodes where they are actually shown working together for example. When Prater first threatens Dexter's son, then it's just a countdown of 90 minutes or less until he gets to kill the midget and everything is forgotten. Also the Ripper thing didn't mean anything for anyone, it was just so the detective had something to do.

Well if they told they were planning to make 2-3 seasons of Resurrection and they are not going to "kill" Dexter or likely his son again because they just over that + Prater might be too expensive for multiseason arch or even a 1½ season arch. It's pretty obvious that Dexter will just always win and he also knows he will win. I wished that either Prater or Batista survived for at least a bit into season 2 but they just had to wrap everything in the last 90 minutes.

I guess there could be a season where he is in court or in prison but they are not wanting to do that, they want Dexter to just keep going on forever. Another example of a different season could be 10 episodes of "what if?" like write 10 different endings to certain characters or archs. It is doable if it might just require all these guest stars to return for one-two days of filming or so which was probably the case for some actors in resurrection.

On rewatch it was really clear how much care went into audience perception. The very first kill is some "community leader" killing little boys. Dexter emphasizes how he would never hurt kids. A lot of Dexter's potential was wasted. His brother was killed in the first season, someone who could have been a perfect foil to Dexter's character. Doakes got killed early. Every season past the second one was the villain of the week type of garbage. Dexter flip flopped between being a psycho and a real human bean. A lot of darker tones weren't explored at all. Deborah got killed the same season the show explored her dynamic with Bay Harbor Butcher Dexter. I could go on and on. The show was good but it could have been so much better too.
