For us it's A Clockwork Orange.
For us it's a mix of Naked, Babylon, Threads, if...., The Draughtsman's Contract and the music of Belle and Sebastian (they suck), Black Tambourine, Oasis, Placebo, MIA and The Spice Girls.
>>

Never stop. What's your favorite? For us it's classic amber lager. Fuck fruit beers, fuck pale lagers.
>>
I know you guys are cinephiles and you're not supposed to like him, but you have to admit it's pretty cool that The Rock was able to get a standing ovation at Venice.

The only great things about Clockwork Orange are the set design, the music, and McDowell's performance. Easily one of Stanley's worst.

Praise from those ovation merchants is worthless honestly, they'd stand up and clap for my daily bowel movement if I livestreamed it for them. I have a strong suspicion that Joshiepoo is the true kinomeister of the brothers and I expect this to bear fruit when the Timmy movie is inevitably better. Benny wants to be in front of the camera too much, he doesn't have Josh's conviction.

He is, but you need to study marxism to get it; soz.
>>
>>214195418
We've already had this conversation before, Godard himself never did properly study Marx. Incredible how gullible you lot are.
>>
>>214195486
I don't remember seeing a quote on that, but anyway, he obviously knew the elements of basic marxist theory.
>>
>>214195581
Nothing special with that.
>>
>>214195647
Never said it was special; in fact, I'd expect any intellectual leaning person to know the basics of marxist theory.
>>
Filling your brain with commie gobbledygook lowers your IQ, I'd expect any intellectual to have scoffed at it from the outset and completely skipped a college commie phase.
>>
>>214195734
Still, that doesn't elevate Godard works in the slightest, the Marxism there is just for shock value.
>>
>>214195810
Even more egregious is commie art, only pseuds take it seriously. Such an inept crowd, with very rare exceptions.
>>
/film/ is a commie-friendly general. Back to /tv/-/pol/ with you.
>>
>>214195810
You know that you can study all kinds of things and still be whatever you want to be, right? I'm a centrist, dude: I am pro guns, pro capitalism, pro competition, etcetera, but I'm also pro regulation in regards to guns, the market and business practices. My question to anti intellectual postures such as "don't study marxism" is: what are you afraid of? Is the ol' jew gonna brainwash you? Are you afraid of trooning out spontaneously post-book reading? Lol
>>
>>214195877
I suppose Godard's collaboration with real life leftist causes was also for shock value? Read this:
>Inspired by the May 68 upheaval, Godard, alongside François Truffaut, led protests that shut down the 1968 Cannes Film Festival in solidarity with the students and workers. Godard stated there was not a single film showing at the festival that represented their causes. "Not one, whether by Milos, myself, Roman or François. There are none. We're behind the times."

Crinfe. I don't trust any "intellectual" who has not cultivated some kind of extremist stance he is steadfast on. Similarly how I don't trust a "cinephile" who just thinks all the canon directors are good.
>>
>>214196050
No, I suppose that was because of his infatuation with his then wife Anne Wiazemsky, who was a commie university student at the time. Godard himself later claimed that the Marxist elememts in his films were there for shcok value, but I concede that he is a unreliable narrator: he probably didn't want to admit he was commie for pussy.

He was probably influenced by his bitch, but in reality he became even more anti-imperialist and anti-consumerist in his post-bitch films. Histoire(s) de cinema's whole point goes about cultural degradation through imperialism and class struggle.

Note how he spent ages berating DomLab by calling her busted, obnoxious, whorish, among other slanderous statement, just to pivot to this 'mirthful' quip, as if we had simply forgotten all the insults hurled at her. Now the same with Anne WiaZelensky. He'll repudiate this bit eventually and see Our Queen's light.

>What is your favourite film directed by a Britbonger?
Picrel, I watched it last year and was completely shocked by how well-made it was and how brilliantly it captured the decline and fall of Britain post-WWII. It's arguably more poignant now than when it was made in that regard.
>For the non-bongers, what film comes to mind when you think of Bri'ish people and your conception of them?
Depends on where they're from; Britain is one of the most regionalistic and esoteric places in the world that has always captivated me (though that's also probably because I'm Scottish and Irish blood myself).

Funny, I made a beeline to boomer rock because Miles lost all his tightness to me once he became a rocker. I started craving his Birth of the Cool stage but in rock form so started listening to old fashioned 2, 3 minute boomtunes (and then found myself veering back into loose jam sesh material again, except with all rock band instruments).

>>214199990
It reminds one of a villainous pimp, who treats all his girls with coldness and cruelty, until the time comes to treat a single one with especial unkindness, whereupon the other girls become beloved friends to him in order to single that girl out. I have no doubt Charlotte will be freed from the whipping post and elevated to saintly status once it’s another ‘fu’s turn to be demonised!

I never heard anything by Steely Dan. I’m cueing them up after Allman, that is, if I don’t return to jizz first.

Speaking of Charlotte, I watched The Phoenician Scheme for her. She’s only in it for about a minute. By the end of the film, I hated this Wes Anderson guy, to whom I had (thankfully) been subjected to minimal exposure to before this. I wondered what type of person likes this crap. Isn’t Wes Anderson to filmmaking what Thomas Kinkade is to painting? Film will never be able to grow as an art form when people raise this type of crap up as exemplary. People who like Wes Anderson probably think that all poems are supposed to rhyme and that all music should have vocals.
What a hack. How I detest him. I thought, the millions put into the budget of this useless film could have gone to starving people. I was aware of a profound waste of my time and the time of all involved in its creation and viewing. Fie, fie, fie, pah, pah! Give me an ounce of civet, good apothecary; sweeten my imagination.

Both are hot, but Lily is hotter because you can see her get turned on from the attention / men lusting for her in her scenes. Women that get turned on by sex turn me on. Bonnie is more of a technician, though the piss scenes are h-hot. But anyway, both are only like a 7.5/10 all things considered. Angela White mogs.

I felt the same way. I understood what Brian was going for with the hyper-artifice, but rather than coming across like the whole movie was one of the movies-within-the-movie you see at the start in a good way, it was just in a bad way for me. Body Double was a better attempt at it and for me Mission Impossible is his best statement on artifice. It's also his most Hitchcockian, ironically because it's one where he wasn't trying to reference him so openly. I rewatched it a while back and in the first scene they stage the death of a sexy young woman only to reveal it's all a set. And I was like, wow, how did I not realise that this film was obviously partially about the act of jointcrafting the first time?
But Brian grew on me as I watched more of his movies and Blow Out was an early one, so maybe I'd appreciate it more now that I've been DePillma'd. Dressed to Kill is the best though IMO. I also gained more respect for Travolta, I realised he was a real actor when watching it, funny how Hackantino's movie didn't make me feel that way about him.

You mean the scene at very beginning of the film? Yeah, it was pretty neat. The film would've been more interesting had it leaned more into the conspiracy stuff, something more wide scale and mysterious. The story just didn't grip me the way I thought it would.
>>214211883
I thought the ending was a tad weird, but I'm not miffed about it. We're just supposed to accept that Travolta's character not only wholesale gives up on exposing the conspiracy, but he also uses Sally's bloody murder scream for the shitty B-movie he was working on? Ok, cold but whatever. That said, there was something poetic about it.
>>214211947
I've only seen a few de palma films, the ones everyone have seen. I'm still kinda on the fence regarding him, in my mind he's currently placed in "he's got potential to make a masterpiece" category since I haven't seen all his films, but from the ones I have seen, I find them good but not great, there's something asynchronistic about them that makes them feel off to me.

You know what's up. Every role is crucial early on in an actor's career and usually leads to the next one, especially punching through such a cutthroat industry back in the 70s.

Them /eiga/ brothers are Fukasaku and Somai pilled while westerners slurp Harry Carrie and Miyazaki. On a more serious note it is funny how tastes differ as regards the cultivation of the Japanese Canon (Japanese) and the Japanese Canon (American). Cagliostro is Miyazaki's most beloved movie over there according to polls while Big Harve made sure that the first Zaki movie on the tongues of every Westerner was Spirited Away.
