How would you rank 'em?
>in b4 pedos parrot their bullshit opinion about how only the first two are good or contrarians say only azkaban was good because “le heckin alfonso cuaron weirdness oh muh heckin artisticness” the later movies being bleak as shit is what makes them interesting so i would say they get better as they go on.
>>214204120So how would you rank 'em?
>>214204298i would need to rewatch them because i haven’t seen all of them back to back in at least a decade but i know always liked goblet of fire the most

>>2142039603 > 4 > 2 > 6 > 1 > 5 > 8 > 7
2 is massively shit and just gets lumped in with 1 because of nostalgia for the Columbus aesthetic and the Williams OST.1 > 3 > 7.1 > ???? > Nothing

2 > 1 > 4 > 7 > 3 > gap > 5 6 8 in any order4 is underappreciated teenage slop and 7 has some genuinely and probably the only heartfelt moments
Harry Potter is the only series where all movies are good and there are more than 3 movies.
>>214206896Lethal Weapon
4 > 1 > 2 > 3 > literal dogshit > 6 > 8 > 7 > 5I will never forgive David Yates for ruining the latter half of the series.

>>214207015Says who? Some lispy queer video essayist on YouTube? It's a well made film, unlike Yates' films which are shot like the most boring low budget TV show in existence. Mike Newell is a good director and made easily the most entertaining film in the franchise. The fact that it diverted from the book has no bearing on its quality as a piece of filmmaking.
>>214207044>muh youtube essaysobsessed
>>214207044It's rushed, poorly edited garbage that completely botches the Ron/Harry spat, looks like shit, removes everything that was good about the book, the character moments, to focus on lame action sequences. Director clearly didn't understand that the appeal of HP is kids attending a magic school, instead putting all of his eggs into the triwizard tournament which no one gives a fuck about. Yes it "diverges from the book" as in takes out everything that made it good.
>>214207044Nobody watches youtube essays but zoomers. 4 is ass because it's always been ass. The MY BOY scene is the only good part in the movie, because that actor was the only person on set actually feeling something.

>>214204120I liked Harry Potter as a whimsical fairy tale with wizards having little wooden sticks and wacky magical school with silly things like moving stairs or quidditch. I cannot take the "serious" atmosphere of later movies. It just feels retarded. Especially these fucking literal gun fighting scenes with sticks instead of guns.
6, 5, 4, 3, 1, 2, 7, 8
3 > 6 > 7 > 4 > 1 > 2 > 8 > 5
>>214203960Movies went downhill after the 4th one.Half Blood was probably the worst. They skipped lot of Voldemort's backstory and Harry/Ginny romance was just cringe.
>>214209232was about to say that. Half-Blood Prince is mostly an awkward teen romance directed by a guy who can't direct actors.

2 is the best, without question. 1 is the next best. And then it goes in release order from 3 on.
Eight is best.
>>214203960First 2 are pretty chill but the last few had the better Emma
>>2142039601. Don’t care 2. Don’t care3. Don’t care4. Don’t care5. Don’t care6. Don’t care 7. Don’t care8. Don’t care Harry Potter is for the biggest uber faggots walking the planet.
>>2142039604 is unintentionally a comedic masterpiece. The whole “Dumbledore said calmly” moment is rightfully memed to death but the whole movie is filled with tone breaking moments like Voldemort’s weird moaning when torturing Harry or the school band playing a triumphant tune while Harry is crying in agony cradling the dead body of his friendly rival. People call all the post Columbus movies grimdark but 4 is impossible to take seriously.

>>214203960The books were better. In fact, I barely remember the movies. This ranking applies to the books:>>214204411
>>214203960On a very superficial level, the films seem like good adaptations, but if you really get down to it, they've seriously ruined the characterization of the characters and, consequently, the perception we have of them.
>>2142039602>1>3>5>6>7>4I don't know what were they thinking with 4's pacing and costume designs, even 5's pacing was better and it was based on a longer book. 7 is whatever, as it doesn't have hogwarts and every forest segment was boring as fuck.
>>214210108based and very trueno surprise its only /v/eddit spics spamming this trash and then crying about /lit/ bullying them
The first movie had great worldbuilding and mostly focused on showing the castle, how the classes went and felt all around warm and magical with subtle foreshadowing and a nice buildup to a boss fight conclusion. All movies afterwards just leaned towards all the dark shit, which never appealed to me.
>>2142039601 and 2 are 3/10The rest are 0/10

My local theater has been playing them one day a week.So far in this rewatch, 1 > 3 > 2.I'm just expecting many of the rest to get mogged hard by 1 just because of the real sets you can visibly see the actors interacting with. Even in 3 though, now you're getting CGI and greenscreen everywhere and the kids going through most of the movie in urban clothes is soulless and I hate it. This is a goofy fantasy series so don't hide the goofy wizard robes.
>>214213354I remember thinking 6 and 7 were really boring movies. Those are the only ones I know for a fact I only watched once.
1 is the most faithful to the book. I think there’s like 2 scenes from the book that didn’t make it into the theatrical cut but are in the extended cut. I’ve always said the books grew up with their audience. And part of that was making them longer and less adaptable to a 2 hour film. The last book probably had the most filler so of course that’s the one they stretch out into 2 movies. They probably should have just embraced the adventure and mystery aspect by the fourth film and not try to cram in all the character stuff. None of them really grow or change, they just get into fights with each other and make up. And we don’t need that every movie.
