What's the point of 4k? Everyone keeps trying to shill it but whenever i look at screencap comparisons between a bluray and a 4k the bluray always wins. It's like the people making the 4k transfers just have the inability to not fuck it up.

James Cameron uses AI for his 4Ks. There exist good 4Ks and AFAIK films like The Wizard of Oz and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy were done well on 4K.

He's doing amazing stuff with all the tech he developed for his Avatar series and the AI upscaling shit may well bear fruit eventually but his crusade against film grain is short sighted and has resulted in him shitting out some atrocious products after going through the trouble of getting a fresh transfer. I more than most understand that when you're dealing with visionaries you have to accept the good with the bad but fuck Cameron has been making it hard for me to grin and bear it lately. At least the 4k release of The Abyss took it easy on the post processing. I was going to lose my mind if we finally got a fresh transfer of that and it turned out like fucking True Lies.
